Franky Lampard

SAF's given us the green light to call him fat and useless again.

<------- called this a month ago. FRANKY YES!

"I don't want to sign a player who won't get a game when everyone's fit"

rofl.

Think we just need to teach Gibbo how to shoot against players so that they can take deflections and go into the net.

.

When was the last time everyone was fit?

In fairness I agree with him, I'd take Lamard if we got him for about 5million but thats never gonna happen, there's no way I'd spend 10million on him.

5m? Not even 1m if it means blocking Pogba's progress

I'm glad thats now his thought process though, hopefully it means the end of Bebe, Tosic, Obertan, you get the point type players that quickly add up to what could be a big player. Basically players whos potential isn't very high and aren't good enough.

As opposed to Park and Rafael blocking his progress?

Pogba's not ready for the first team, if he was he'd get in there ahead of RB's and wingers at home against the team that are bottom of the league.

I'd rather the likes of Lampard for a year (while Pogba develops) than continue to play players out of position.

How would he block Pogba's progress? Pogba isn't ready to play first team football yet and by the time he is Lampard will have likely retired already. I have yet to see anything from Pogba that would suggest that he will be a permanent solution to our midfield problems too. Seven years ago people thought of David Jones when talking about midfield solutions, he was supposed to be the next Keane - he turned out to not even be good enough for Wolverhampton.

That´s not the same. They were all players United were taking a chance on because the (myopic) scouts saw something in them.
Not players they were paniced into buying in January due to injuries in the squad.

Not for Fat Frank it wouldn't. Not when he'll be playing CL football at Chelsea and Europa League with United.

That's a snag. But he would probably play significantly more for us, especially since Chelsea's chances of winning it are slim to none and he may not even play much more for them under AVB.

There is that. Still, he's not getting any younger and it's the one medal he doesn't have. He's only an injury or two away from becoming a guaranteed starter and it wouldn't be the first time an unfancied team goes on to win the Champion's League.

They were still players that "won't get a game when everyone's fit". We all knew it.

One thing he is not is overrated. Lampard is the highest goalscoring midfielder in PL history and second in all time assists.

Not that this transfer has a chance in hell of happening.

Ok if you say he isn't overrated then he isn't. Doesn't matter that I don't think he's as good as the English media make out. I'm glad you put me right, no longer will I think of him as a jammy big lump who's goals all come from deflections and who had the lucky advantage of being a midfielder who plays as a second striker with no defensive obligations.

He's a great big shitebag with dodgy technique. And he's an arrogant prick.

I can't say I have ever had anything against Lampard on a personal level.

 Not a fan of Lamps then i take it!

He's overrated because he's just a top British player in the Prem, no way would Lamps ever be able to be a success in a superior* league, such as La Liga, or international football which is similar. That doesn't mean he isn't a very good player in the Prem, and for a team like us who still very much play like an old Prem team, Lampard is just the sort of player who would shine for us. I'm not saying we should (or could) sign him, but I think that's why people think Lampard is either excellent or overrated.

*Just to be clear - superior technically in the way football is played, obviously not superior for competitiveness, or perhaps entertainment (before the Prem fanboys jump in!)

For all our problems in midfield, I'm not sure a bench warmer from a club below us in the league would see that much of an improvement.

SAF: "Do you really think Chelsea would sell to United in January? There's no foundation in that. Chelsea want to do something in the second half of the season so they want to keep their best players."

That's not exactly a dismissal of the idea of signing Lampard by Sir Alex - only a dismissal of signing him in January.

Id be hoping that Ferguson is not looking at Lampard at the end of the season. For January, I could see why if it was true. But at the end of the season, theres so many more available options. Not a slight on Lampard, just his age and the wages he would probably demand. We could do better for value imo.

How old is Lampard 33? He'd last 2-3 years in heavy rotation. Just wouldn't work. Long term not short term please.

Lampard's the only Chelsea player I've ever liked so I'd be quite happy if we signed him. He once pretty much saved Ronaldo from getting sent off for a second yellow in a match at OT. He seems a decent guy

The Russian would never sell to us. While we're at it let's go for Gerrard too and see if Fergie could fix their two-man midfield problem.
