Frank Lampard

Our squad should be easily enough to stay in this league but they let us down every week. Parachute payments are chunky but so are our debts. The best players at the club are the ones that would leave aside from probably Gordon.

Do you think Lampard stays if you're relegated? It's kind of a gamble to stick with him if the aim to bounce back out of the second division in one attempt, but it also seems harsh to sack him just a few months into the job.

@WeePat I think it would be harsh to fire him too. I guess it depends who would be available and interested in joining. I think he would probably do okay in the Championship and it would be better for his evolution as a manager.

He's a poor manager, but he got it right against Liverpool. Anyone thinking they would had a chance playing otherwise is deluded.

I wish we had played against Liverpool like they did, sure time wasting diving cnuts but at least they showed some fight.

Yeah, I do not get the backlash he has got for yesterday. No way were Everton going there and playing the Dippers off the pitch. I mean, let's be real, if he opened up it would've been a cricket score.

On top of that, his tactics wound up the Dippers which should've resulted in a Peno and a sending off for Mane.

If those decisions had been made, as they should've done, he would be the toast of the Cafè for torpedoing the Dippers title challenge; especially with Mane having a three match ban.

Don't get me wrong, I do not think he is a great manager, but it look a LiVARpool masterclass in keeping the Dippers in the title race to prevent his team getting a point or better.

I feel sorry for him in a way. He's made mistakes but it would have been silly to not expect that from a manager who doesn't have the experience of his last two jobs. Realistically he should have been nowhere near a title hunting team or a 'big' team seriously threatened with relegation but he and those clubs have put themselves in that position. I think he's done some good things though. The way he has set us up in some games shows he has a semblance of tactical nous and he and his coaching staff have clearly worked on and improved some players such as Mykolenko. I think he's sensible enough to realise how to rile up players/fans in terms of morale too. If we are relegated though that's sadly all he will be remembered for. I stand by my thought that relegation is because of a bigger and wider problem than Lampard which is first and foremost the owner and secondly how disastrous Benitez was for the team and atmosphere at and around the club.

I'm not sure how much can the owners be blamed here. You can blame them for Everton not being a top 8 side anymore, you can blame them for signing stupidly and having botched too many managerial hirings. But to blame them for relegation is a bit too much - the side as unbalanced as it may be is surely not a bottom 3 side.

Around Benitez, I think your board fecked up, but no matter how you look at it, any decent manager would have gotten Everton out of relegation zone

Yes it is

 I just mean I'd put more blame on the people who were seduced by it and hired him than on Frank himself.

IF they manage to stay up it will be framed as amazing escape by Frank so even though I like Everton (the club) I'd prefer them to go down over Burnley (a club I don't like) or Leeds (A club that I don't really care about).

I don’t agree and I think you’re seriously underestimating how poor the squad is and the state/energy of the club is currently. It’s like United on steroids.

Surely the side is better than Watford, Burnley, Norwich, Leeds, Palace on paper. Of course it's not the most balanced side, but you also have enough players with obvious quality as well.

Anyways, you know Everton better, so will leave it there

I would say it is better on paper than all of those, yes, but when you add in the factors of injuries (DCL for example has been out most of the season and hasn’t looked anywhere near himself when he’s played) and current performance levels, I don’t think that ‘on paper’ factor is there or will change anytime soon. It’s similar to you, Arsenal, West Ham and Spurs. On paper you’re better but everything surrounding the club and state of the dressing room etc. has led to that ‘on paper’ meaning absolutely feck all. We need a complete club reset and I don’t think it’s fair to give Frank a lot of stick. I don’t disagree that he could have done better but he’s fighting a losing battle in some regards.

Yikes. I don't feel great about tomorrow. I hate either outcome. Terrible situation for Lampard.

You gotta salute burnley at this point, as someone already said over here, a turd that won't flush.

Poor fatty frank.

I don’t want Everton to go down. I don’t even like them, but still.

It might be better if they do go down. It might be easier to get rid of all the crap they have accumulated. Will they want to play in the Championship?

Table doesn't lie at the end of the season. If you're relegated, you deserve to be, regardless of your club status.

They have a couple games in hand and need Leeds to continue to drop points, but they need at least 3 wins to give them a real shot at staying up. Every point counts, so having defensive solidity, spirit, and good delivery on set pieces is key. Survival is on the line, they should be fighting for everything and showing a great urgency.

Their next three games are crucial
Normally you'd say Chelsea will be tough but chelsea might have an eye on the fa cup and it's an Evertin game
Then leicesterand Watford. Gotta take 4 points from that. If they do it sets momentum up nicely

This is what happens when you hire a complete amateur, absolutely dreadful decision by the Everton-board. Solskjær was incredibly bad at Cardiff and somehow ended up at United, Lampard did the opposite by starting at a big club and then taking over a small club after doing terribly at Chelsea. Lesson should have been learned, how Solskjær failed should have raised huge red flags for Everton relative to Lampard. Not saying every recent ex-pro will suck, but they are very similar in that they have never spoken about tactics or football like they know what they are talking about, they’re just blokes wanting to not leave football and live without it. It’s deserved, they’ve made their bed and have to sleep in it. Tons of managers could have easily saved them from this mess on a short-term contract.

They didn't have that many options , this was coming for a while, years of terrible recruitment and wasteful spending dies this to ya.

Not unlike us tbh

Lampard started at derby
But yes, was a weird signing midway through the season in the situation they were in

If they don't beat Chelsea, they'll be relegated, Burnley will probably accumulate 5+ points more this season and Leeds will likely get 3 to 4 more.

I think they are done tbh. No new manager bounce, horrible fixtures, no fight

The FA Cup isn’t for another 2 weeks. I don’t think Chelsea will be “saving themselves” for that just yet.

Living in Liverpool I really feel horrible for the Everton fans. I understand that some of them can be terrible but overall it’s a fanbase that has had nothing really to cheer about but this season is beyond their worst nightmare. I don’t see any chance of them staying up

Is it that bad going down ? They'll probably come straight back up, give the fans something to cheer about, win the Championship.

Tough one. They have overspent quite hideously in the last few years and were potentially looking at a points deduction next season even if they don't go down. They lost their Russian minority backer a few months ago and that has scuppered some sponsorship deals too so the next set of results are likely to show more massive losses. Moshri has pumped in close to 500M and has a stadium to build and as they never thought relegations was likely they appear not to have added clauses to their players contracts so they will be stuck paying PL wages in the Championship and will inevitably lose Pickford, DCL and Richarlison at a minimum. You would think they could rebound but honestly it is not unlikely that this turns into another Leeds scenario where they actually drop even further and spend multiple years outside the top flight. Look at Forest, 2 time European Champions and they have been mired in the Championship for over 20 years so it is not like it does not happen.

Of course it is. They will lose loads of money and a team that spend over 300m, as big as Everton with the players they have be disastrous.

While they would most likely come back up what if they didn’t. All their best players will be gone

Most of their top players will leave if they are relegated & coming straight back up is not a gimme. Relegation is a disaster for them..

Just like Fletcher, Lampard is another face of nepotism in English football

Why is Fletcher a mark of nepotism? Is he not qualified for the role hes in?

Also how is Lampard getting the Everton role a question of nepotism?

Getting relegated is always bad. It seems like a trick question.

However, they do have deep pockets. I wouldn't expect them to just fade away into obscurity unless the owner's appetite changes. They'll have a huge competitive advantage over everybody in the Championship and an opportunity to move a few players on and reset if that happens.

It only becomes Leeds or Nottingham Forest if you don't exploit the parachute payments or if the owners can't sustain the club. They'd be massive favourites to bounce back sharpish.

Incredible they've managed to get into this position considering the money spent.

If they can keep a good core of players in the summer they should bounce right back up in my opinion. Newcastle did it, West Ham did it. Fulham and Norwich do it every other year!

If they keep their young players and build around them they will come back up, likely stronger.

Lampard has been awful and they will likely get rid. Patterson for example, looks a ridiculous talent playing for Scotland. Can’t get ahead of two of the worst right backs in the league. Now he’s out injured and Lampard made a comment saying he was about to start him. The Ukrainian lad at left back was in and out the team.

I can’t believe any Premier League football manager would rate Jonjoe Kenny.

Players will leave but if Everton keep their young players and get rid of the likes of Keane, Coleman, Kenny etc.

Pickford, Patterson, Branthwaite, Godfrey, Mykolenko, Gordon, Gray, Calvert-Lewin and Townsend would give a really decent foundation to prepare for the championship. Maybe even Dele Ali would find his feet at that level.

The likes of Richarlison and Allan will leave though I’d imagine.

People claim OGS was awful for getting Cardiff relegated...but getting this Everton-side relegated would be one of the worse managerial achievments in the P.L

The Everton fans seem to still absolutely fecking hate Benitez and blame him (along with the owners, which is fair enough) for the situation, and few of them seem to have a bad word to say about Lampard.

There's no question that from the managerial side it's on Lampard, though. As bad as Benitez was, they were 16th with games in hand on most of the teams around them when Lampard took over. He signs a couple of luxury players and tries to play their way out of the mire.

Massive naivety from him and their fans who have hounded out manager after manager for 'playing the wrong way' and were made up with Lampard coming in. If it wasn't for our specialist relegation fodder points donation service, they'd already be gone.
