Gaming Football Manager 2024

Don't buy this game. Glazers just gave me an extra £70m to spend in January 'to help further consolidate our ambitions in the league'. This was on a real world start.

Realism is out the door this year.
Did you do disable first window? Always happens if you disable first window that they give you an injection

Sigh. Gonna hold on hope that they'll patch it.
Has it always been like this? I only noticed the last couple of years but maybe I just didn't pay attention before then.

Yeah it’s been like this for years but they advertised it as being fixed basically. Just straight up lying at this point if this is the case. How could you possibly miss this kind of stuff when testing?

That's so annoying. By far the feature I was most looking forward to, just normal squad building.

Can't they just kind of hard code a target average age into clubs/managers for some clubs/countries as a sort of philosophy to then actually drive it? You have the "sign u23 players" and yet they never do it.

It's a beta mate. The whole point of early access is to tweak/iron things out.

You would expect one of the biggest advertised changes to be effective in the beta, no?
I would expect many things to not be 100% considering it's not the full release.

The person who encountered the bug should post it in the appropriate place rather than moan on Reddit that way if it's actually an issue it can get investigated.

The whole point of the beta is to find stuff that's not right and post the feedback so they can fix/tweak issues.

Multiple people finding the same issues so it’s clearly predominant in the build. Strange thing to leave until very late if intentional.

Anyway if it’s fixed in the full game then fine but I highly doubt it. I think you have a bit of a rose-tinted view of the game especially as these sorts of issues don’t really bother you.

I don't know about you but I fully expect issues to be uncovered in the beta/early access. The key thing is people giving proper detailed feedback so issues can be resolved.

I've played 10 hours (I'm in November) so I can't say personally. In terms of my immersion/enjoyment of the game, it probably wouldn't bother me too much if that happened in my save. I play saves long after all real players retire so for me I guess I just don't notice as much for that reason. I'm more focused on my own team.

They have some amazing developers if they manage to change something like that before the full release. Unless the full release is next year or something.

Again. Same! But it’s usually minor things here and there, not a fundamentally broken issue with the game that has been there for years and has been widely advertised as now fixed.

I don't believe they said it was 'fixed'

They said it was improved.

Sounds like you need to manage your expectations.

The fact that they can't even fix the transfers that has been an ongoing problem for countless years is shit

That you Miles?
Show me where it says they 'fixed' transfers? They didn't and you get excited because they said they improved them.

Improved and fixed are two very different things.

I'm not trying to be a dick or cause any offence to you but I very rarely get too excited about what video gave devs say to hype their games up.

Ok yes they’ll never actually say ‘fixed’ because that would mean admitting it was broken.

AI Managers are now better geared up to recognise imbalances in their squad make-up and will take their tactical style into consideration much more when shortlisting players. In essence, this means that they’ll look to fill Attribute gaps in their squad. So, a manager using a Gegenpress approach will look specifically for midfielders with high Stamina and Work Rate Attributes if they determine that their squad is missing such a player.

Their approach will now place a stronger focus on a player’s Potential Ability rather than their Current Ability when players are looking for backup/rotation options to an established first-team starter.

That improved logic also applies to outgoing transfers, with AI clubs now making much more considered and contextual decisions concerning loans for young players. If it was felt that a player was lacking in terms of physicality, the club would try to facilitate a move to a more physical team to improve the aspect of the player’s development.

Ultimately, this suite of changes means that your opponents will make more informed, reactive squad-building decisions. It means that you will face more competition in the transfer market and that when your rivals make mistakes, they’ll feel more authentic and realistic.

This is what they’ve said. Stronger focus on potential rather than current. Which doesn’t seem to reflect from what people are saying. I guess you could argue it’s 1% stronger? Technically that could be right.

Very true yes. The language they use is always deliberate.

It's really been a long term problem with every edition, hasn't it? It's mind boggling they haven't fixed it.

In previous editions, I believe it was City and Bayern constantly buying strikers season after season. They'd have 5 strikers in the squad and still go out and get another.

I've wondered for some time how some of the stuff gets past QA testing, but it's crazy how things that are noticeable to any logical person go unnoticed by SI. Almost like their testers sim the game, go to bed and if it doesn't crash, call it a day.

Edit: There's still complaints going around about players being unhappy if you praise them, so that's still a thing too.

I did not, because I chose a start date in October and took over a struggling United after the season started. Original winter window budget was 6m before Avram waved his magic wand. We'll see if this affects next season's budget.

About the squad building though. First thing I did was leave a test game open overnight and went on holiday for ten years. From what i've seen, most top teams built their squads using younger players under 25, with plenty of top regens around 20-22. I did load all leagues, and it took like an hour to sim one year.

Because I enjoy the game I must work for them?

Nah it’s because you become very defensive about any criticism the game receives. There’s obvious flaws in the game that have been around for years.

AI transfers are ridiculous, it’s why, for say people who play the game long term like you do, should pay attention. The game becomes a cake walk after a few years unless you make transfers for the AI yourself - which is why I’m a big believer in using the in game editor to fix AI teams yourself, otherwise you’ll dominant any league you’re in.

No offence man but I don't really care what you or anyone thinks regarding my opinion of the game. Don't play it if it bothers you that much.

This is so reductive. People are allowed to complain about things they think should be fixed by now or if they feel they’ve been deceived by the developers.

And like I said before when I was 'defending' the game, a handful of people saying stuff on Reddit isn't exactly confirmation of anything.

A few Saudi teams were in for Varane in the January window so I managed to get mid 80's mil for him. Got Maguire out to Newcastle for 15m, and then best I could do for Sancho was a loan with future fee to Spurs which would be 2 installments of 15m each for 30m total. Brought Diomande in, looks quality. Hojlund unfortunately looks pretty average in my save, but Rashford is quality so I'll probably just train him into the CF and use Garnacho, Antony, Amad as my wingers. Need to bring in 1 more right footed winger though.

First half of the season was a disaster with how bloated the squad was and tons of injuries. Cleaned up a bit now though. But still have Donny rotting in the squad and rejecting any offer that I accept.

FFS. We are literally playing the same save.:lol::lol:

Got Varane out to Saudi(is it Al-Ittihad?) in Jan for 75m, Maguire on his way to Newcastle for 28m, Malacia out to AC Milan for 15m, Diomande is my Varane replacement as well. Bid 69m(his release clause) for him, hopefully he joins. Some guy called Nagalo is my Maguire replacement. He costs 4.6m and looks pretty decent. Unfortunately, Donny and Sancho are still here for me with no takers. Tottenham keep bidding for Dan Gore though, the cnuts.

Also, didn't realize Robin Van Persie's son Shaqueel van Persie has English nationality and actually looks decent for a 17 year old in this game. He's coming here, no other way.

You could have got Diomande for 40mish! Should've asked for more for Maguire I guess. Keeping Malacia though, backup LB.
Had like 3 sides bidding for Varane, He ended up at Al Hilal.

Antony has been pretty decent but I'll probably look to replace him (and Sancho who left already) with Johan Bakayoko (who looks very good) and Nico Williams. Mainoo and Diomande have 4 yellow stars and 1 white star as their potential from my assistant though, so expecting big things. Hojlund, Amad and Garnacho are all just 3+1 for me (though Garnacho won the golden boy award).

First half of the season was a huge struggle though. Was mid table the whole time and "under pressure" and needing a result which felt harsh but anyway. Turned it around though and just finally am in 4th level on points after 25 games for the first time.

Can’t wait to dig in and waste weeks of my life hitting the space bar

I always start as Utd and then once I become dominant and have figured the game out at the top end I’ll do a lower league save. I rarely play the foreign leagues. I am currently playing fm 23 with Wrexham and have them up up in the PL after 8 seasons but it’s been relegation slog. I was lucky to stay up by 2 points. Free transfers and cheap wonderkids who probably aren’t top notch. This year hasn’t started much better but I know another window or two and I’ll be comfortably mid table. Once you sneak into Europe it’s game over, you can get the really top scouts and wonderkids then and it gets repetitive fast

Even spending just 1 season in the Prem is enough. They will be willing to join with high release clauses in their contracts. If a youngster is asking for a release clause higher than 80m, then thats your really top wonderkids. It's really that transparent in this game.

Apart from Amad who is 3+1 all the others are 4+1 for me. Looks like you got unfortunate with the RNG for Hojlund and Garnacho and rolled them with their lowest potentials. Valentin Barco is available for 8m at the start of the game. Looks good and was easy for me to sell Malacia. Hannibal's only 2+1 star potential though. Such a shame. Also, Bruno with 19 penalty taking has already missed 3 penalties. So fecking annoying that.

My season is going a bit weird. Currently in Jan and I'm competing at the top with fecking Tottenham and Villa. Diaby had an absolutely amazing start for them and was scoring a goal a game until December before he slowed down.

The one I'm most excited is Lacey. Dude has 16 goals and 30 assists in 29 appearances for the youth team. He's tearing it up.

Yeah seems that way. Garnacho still playing well anyway so no need to change things I guess!

Villa are Europa League level but have one of the best goal differentials in the league for me. Though looking at the player ratings and there's some very questionable things there... They gave Zaniolo 15 acceleration, 17 pace and 17 strength? :wenger: who the feck makes these ratings, that's all over the place. Meanwhile Antony is 13 acceleration and 15 pace (should be opposite if anything).

And yeah lacy looks class.

Is it worth it to play the beta? And how is Hakon Arnar Haraldsson at Lille and Orri Oskarsson at FCK?
