Just finished the 19/20 season, and as
@Macern wanted to know how Griezmann got on (after joining in the summer window), I thought I'd do an update.
19 goals and 13 assists (avg rating of 7.37) in 42 games is pretty good going, and I'm encouraged by the fact that he got better as the season went on, with 9 of those goals coming in his last 11 games. He came third in the club POTY voting with 12% of the vote, behind Dybala (17%) and Fosu-Mensah (
63%!!!!)
I mostly played him as an Inside Foward (A) on the left in the 4-2-3-1, although there were times when he played as a Complete Forward (S) in either a 3-4-3 or a 4-3-3. I didn't keep track of when he played better, but I imagine it's similar for both.
In terms of the team, we won the treble. Beat Man City 5-0 on the last day to seal the title, beat WBA 2-0 in the FA Cup final, and beat PSG 1-0 in the CL final. Due to the rotation/keeping players happy, we didn't really see one player score a huge majority of the goals, but rather they were shared out. I'll show who got into double figures, with the appearances record after the /. So basically goals/starts(subs)
Lukaku - 23/31(6)
Griezmann - 19/31(11)
Martial - 17/23/12
Dybala - 14/33(10)
Rashford - 11/14(14)
Kovalenko 12/27(7)
Lingard 11/23(9)
So pretty good going, both for Griezmann and the club overall. I'm probably not going to bring in anybody major in the next window, because I think I need to let this attack settle and gel more. I do want a new rightback though, as the position floated around between TFM, Lindelof, Darmian, a re-trained Herrera and a 19 year old regen over the season, and none of them really did enough to convince me that the spot should be theirs permanently. I like TFM far more as a CM anyway.
