Can you pick players you want and get the director of football to negotiate? Or do they choose the players?

Pellegri and D'Amico. Signed them up, now.

Can you pick players you want and get the director of football to negotiate? Or do they choose the players?

If you put someone as a transfer target, as opposed to just someone on your shortlist, the DOF will try to sign them.

Won the Championship with Wolves.... pre season going into the Prem and I'm finding it really hard this year to get deals done.

Got the handheld version there for my iPad.

I won the league and cup with Ajax in my first season. Got knocked out in the last qualifier for the CL by Napoli so ended up in the Europa League. Finished second in the group behind Villareal, though I later knocked them out in the quarter final I think. Got spanked by Arsenal in the semis. 1-1 in the first leg and I conceded then when pushing for an equaliser conceded two more, so lost 4-1 at home. Second leg I just went for it but lost 2-0 there.

Didn't buy a huge number of players over the summer. Huntelaar was my top scorer in my first season while I developed Dolberg, my young star striker. KJH got about 45 goals overall, I thought about offering him a new contract but he wanted a 3 year deal at 45K a week which wasn't worth it given his age. So I bought the second top scorer in the league, Weghorst, instead.

Some huge offers for some of my players, but generally I've said no. Got offered 54 million from PSG for Donny van de beek which was tempting to say the least but I turned it down. Want to see how this team can do in CL this season.

In the new season, I've just won the Dutch Super Cup, beating PSG (they finished second in the league about 10 points behind me) 3-0. Normally have issues with my defence, thankfully I score a crazy amount in the league but needs sorting out.

Finally got back into this after a few weeks off.

20 games into the first season. Walking the league, averaging 3.3 goals a game and the best defence in the league.
Just beat my mate (Liverpool) 9-2

Best player on this is Willem Geubbels he’s an absolute beast when playing upfront or inside forward from either wing.

@Charlie Foley How's Weghorst been for you? Need a striker at Atalanta in my first season and he's one I've had an eye on, had pretty good stats for what I wanted.

I really wanna get back into FM, i miss the ol CM days and i really cannot find a good Skin for FM that makes me feel like i want to get back into it.

Season 3 complete. I'll spoiler it, but tl:dr: I did good.

Team Performance:

After the second season near-disaster, and just barely keeping my job in the first five games of this season, things...went well...and kept going well. A 2-1 victory over Wolves on the last day of the season, while Arsenal beat 4th placed Everton 1-0 saw us overtake the Toffees, and claim that Champion's League spot.

We won 22 games, drew 4, and lost 12, finishing on 70 points. The home record (winning 15/19) was good enough to see us second in the league on that basis.

We were knocked out of the league cup in the third round by Man City, which isn't too upsetting. We made it to the semi-final of the FA Cup, where we were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal.

Summer Signings:

Mamadou Sakho - took him a while to get settled in, but was solid when he did so. Average rating of 7.02 across 32 games, I've a feeling his second season is going to be a good one.

Alassane Plea - signed as the Guidetti replacement. Guidetti managed seven goals for Middlesbrough in the league, whilst Plea got 13 in 26 (15 in 33). 3 assists and 5 POM awards and an average rating of 7.11. It's good, and probably more impressive considering most of his games came off the bench.

Yacine Brahimi - the Chadli replacement. An average rating of 6.78 over 21 league games (3 goals) isn't very good at all, and he often saw his spot taken by Jonathan Leko or Tyler Roberts. Next season needs to be better.

Jean Michael Seri - 26 league games, five goals, three assists, 1 POM award, average rating of 7.17. And he was free. Lovely stuff.

Lucas Paqueta - this was one of the more disappointing ones, only making three appearances in the league (although he did get a goal and an assist in them). We loaned him out to Malaga in January after I loaned in some stronger players, and he's got three goals and seven assists in 16 games, so hopefully he can push on next season with us.

Lincoln - "I'll just grab him as an understudy to Plea, and see how he does." 24 goals in 32 games in the league, nine assists, nine POM awards, average rating of 7.44. The WBA player of the season and young player of the season. Winner of young player of the month in October, November, December, January, February, March and April. Third highest scorer in the league. Honestly, I'm a little bit in love.

Ruben Duarte - only 6.65 average rating over 9 league games. Feels harsh to criticise though, as Shaw coming in on loan meant that he was never going to be first choice.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 21 games, average rating of 6.98. It's OK, a tiny bit better than Zappacosta's 6.91 in 21. I don't think we'll be able to sign him, and honestly I think we can find a better quality RB anyway. (I'll make an enquiry and see for sure, but I doubt it).

Lucas Martinez Quarta - average rating of 6.71 over 17 games. To be fair to him he only really played when I moved to a three at the back formation, which wasn't often. Seems capable back-up though.

Luke Shaw - 30 games, average rating of 7.04. It's good, and if we could have signed him for that £9m asking price at the start of his loan, I'd have been happy. I'm making another enquiry, but I'm fully expecting United to tell me to do one.

January Signings:

Marcos Rojo - Everton - £11.75m+Craig Dawson - Dawson has done really well for Everton and Rojo has not done very well for me. I don't want to talk about it.

Dani Ceballos - Real Madrid - loan. Average rating of 6.88 over 12 games. I probably would have been better off sticking with Sallai or Canales.

Lautaro Martinez - Marseille - loan - I wanted cover for the striking positions after loaning out Jamie Soule to Blackburn. He only scored one goal, but I suppose with Lincoln and Plea in fine form, I can't complain.

Gabriel Barbosa - Bayern - loan - I loaned Oliver Burke out to Leicester to make room for him. Burke did really well for them, but Barbosa scored three very important goals for us. Like, he only scored three, but they were all last minute winners. Bayern have put an asking price of £81m on him, so probably not buying him.

(Apart from Dawson, we only sold Nagatomo in January).

So my targets for summer are: a back-up goalkeeper, as Foster is retiring. Both full-back positions need strengthening, and then I'll just see who's transfer listed. We've got some good players coming back from loan, some of whom may be ready for the first team.

Thinking about getting this - haven't played a FM game in ages. It's available for about €37 on gamebillet and wingamestore, which seems like a decent price. I'm assuming that most of the negative reviews on Steam are because the game hasn't improved too much since last year and not because the game itself is actually bad - is that a correct assumption?

@Charlie Foley How's Weghorst been for you? Need a striker at Atalanta in my first season and he's one I've had an eye on, had pretty good stats for what I wanted.
He's been really good mate, I'd definitely recommend him. He's not my first choice even if he starts a decent amount, Dolberg is my main man up front, and I only play with 1 forward and a 10 (though I'm having a midfield injury issue lately so might drop Ziyech back and play Weghorst next to Dolberg). But Weghorst has been great, a goal a game and offers something really different to my other forwards, he's a great target man. I was playing Sevilla away in the Champions League just there and it was 1-1 and I was under a lot of pressure, put him on and went 4-4-2 more direct and beat them 3-1, he got 2 assists and hit the post!

Took some screenshots earlier, too lazy to update again, he got a hat trick in the next game then came the Sevilla game.

Im still playing 17. Is it worth me forking out for 18 or is it just basically a player update? I might do my usual and skip a version.

Is this thread only for FMM on computer or cellphone as well?

Started a save as Salford. Currently in League 2 after successive promotions (both wins in the play-offs after finishing 2nd). Finding it a bit tougher in League 2 but still doing alright - sitting in 11th after 9 games.

Has anyone else tried a lower league save yet?

Most of the goals I concede seem to be from crosses out wide. Tried so much too stop it but nothing seems to work

Started a West Ham save as I thought it would be moderately challenging/interesting with their squad. Just starting the third season, so I'll spoiler my first two seasons recap so far.

Season 1 transfers
Ins 2017/18

Moussa Dembele - 19.75M
Ryan Sessegnon - 11M
Leander Dendoncker - 27M

Outs 2017/18

Marko Aurnautovic - 20M
Andy Carroll - 10M
Manuel Lanzini - 15.5M

As the notable ones.

Sessegnon was loaned back for the season, and Dembele and Dendoncker were immense.

Dembele hit 41 goals in 37 games in the league, with 17 assists and an average of 7.86

Dendoncker only joined in January of that season, but managed a 7.38 average in the games he played.

Our forwards managed to fire us to a second place finish in the league, but United were runaway winners. The Champions League place was a nice consolation though for our efforts.

Ins 2018/19

Orbelin Pineda - 12.5M
Kasper Dolberg - 26.5M
Matthijs de Ligt - 25M
Rodri- free
Ashley Young - free
Alban Lafont - 40M

Outs 2018/19

Jose Fonte - 1.6M
Pedro Obiang - 19.5M
Mark Noble - 12.5M

All the signings were able to step up and offer solid rotation options, or improve the first team. Ashley Young spent the majority of the season injured, but was only brought in for backup anyway.

Dolberg provided 25 goals in 31 league appearances, and 46 in 50 overall. Combined with Dembele's overall 48 goals in 47 appearances, we led the league in goals scored.

Lafont, de Ligt and Rodri all became first team players, and Pineda contributed well until he blew his ACL and was out for the rest of the season.

Our Premier League form dipped a little, finishing in 3rd, but we had a good run in the cups elsewhere.

We put our name on the Carabao Cup, beating Southampton, Everton, Chelsea, Newcastle and Man United in the final.

Our first venture in the champions league put us in a relatively easy group with Olympiakos, Dynamo Kiev and Napoli. We got off to a slow start, but eventually topped the group.

We got paired up with Lyon, which I was quite happy with. We dropped the first game 2-3 in France, but stormed the home return leg 7-1.

Monaco was up next, and a comfortable 5-1 aggregate win meant we were into the semi's.

Man United were up next. With the exception of the Carabao Cup final, they've made a habit of beating us easily and often. We managed a 3-1 win in the first home leg, and edged a nervy 0-1 loss at Old Trafford, meaning we were into the final in our first appearance in the Champions League!

We were going to be up against Juventus, at the Metropolitano de Madrid. It ended up being quite a game, and not what I expected.

One goal in the first half by Diafro Sakho meant it was all still to play for. Kasper Dolberg fired us further ahead in the 65th minute, and I started to believe. Sakho added his second, and our third, in the 71st minute and I just about started celebrating.

Then Dybala scored in the 73rd. Higuain added a second five minutes later...and I saw the collapse happening.

Sakho saved our blushes, and completed his hat trick in the 81st minute, meaning Bernardeschi's goal in the 88th was only a consolation....and West Ham were European Champions!

Our third season is just underway, and we were taken over by a tycoon :D he pumped money into the club and gave us a 200M+ transfer budget, coupled with the money from a few player sales.

Dembele was purshased by Monaco for 58M, rising to 73M. Was sad to see him go after his two seasons in London, but he wanted to leave, and we got a good return for him.

Rodri also went off to France, with PSG signing him for 38M, rising up to 50M. Did well for us, but had big things in mind for the squad, and it was all profit from a free signing.

Coming into the team was some young players for the future, and the marquee signings.

Marco Asensio for a straight 56M
Pol Lirola for 25.5M
Wesley Hoedt - for 24M
Angel Correa for 20M
And I brought in Asensio's recommendation of Gerard Moreno for 42.5M
Gabriel Jesus will be joining in January for a bargain price of 18.75M

So now I can slowly phase Hernandez and Sakho out over the season and prepare for the future. This is how I'll be looking in January.

Lafont
De Ligt Dendoncker Hoedt
Lirola-----------------------Sessegnon
Asensio Pineda
Jesus -- Moreno -- Dolberg

Third season has gotten off to a good start with a 3-2 win against Chelsea in the Super Cup.

Premier League started off with a 4-0 win away to Newcastle, a 4-1 win at home to Chelsea, and a 5-1 win away at Arsenal.

Hoping to finally win the Premier League, and retain the Champions League. The board hasn't started expecting me to win everything yet, but with the money spent, and the team were building, it's only a matter of time.

The game does still have some interesting kinks to work out though.

David Moyes was asked the following question at his press conference...

"Your former West Ham team have been struggling somewhat since your departure. Do you have any thoughts on the job Danny Skizzo has done in replacing you?"

Yeah...spending over 200 million, tycoon owners, winning the Champions League, and a strong start to the season sees us sitting in first place....but let's ask David Moyes about how we're struggling and his thoughts. Even though technically, I don't think he was ever actually in charge of West Ham since I took over at the start of the game.

Finished 12th in League 2. I've managed to sign Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young for the upcoming season :D Hopefully they get me out of the league.

Rashford just won the Ballon D'Or for me and Martial came third...

This is the first FM I've put a decent amount of hours into since '07 or '08 and I can't believe how fecking shit the match engine still is. It doesn't seem to have improved much over the ten years really. I just conceded a goal from a corner where they had 2 or 3 players unmarked, with most of my players marking nothing and them being down one man - to top it off, it went in off the post because Young decided to move away when the ball was coming at him. Players also can't shoot for shit.

@Wowi Do you change corner set up in tactics? The default ones are shit
Yeah, I did. I have my CBs marking tall players and Lukaku back as well. I don't concede many goals or even chances from corners in general.

Does anyone else find there's a lack of jobs available in their games? I've been checking the jobs constantly from half way through the season to try and jump ship from Salford and even in pre-season there's never any jobs available.

Is it just me or is Nikola Vlasic brilliant!

Bought the game today and started with Everton and he's just unreal as a winger.

25 points clear with Wolves at the top of the Championship. Playing a 3 striker system (Jota, Bonatini and Giovinco who I signed from the MLS). However I got demolished by Arsenal reserves in the LC and West Brom beat me 4-0 in the FA cup after we forced a replay. My 3 centrebacks of Coady, Bennett and Bath will need upgrading in the Premier League. Wolves have a sugar daddy in charge so that shouldn't be a problem.

Stoke at Old Trafford - seems about right.

A seven man bus on the edge of the penalty area. A quick headcount shows they only have ten players on the field. Was there an injury?
