Gaming Football Manager 2016

So my first thoughts after a nice 5 hour session last night are.

1- the add yourself feature is so very pointless, it's shit and unnecessary and you don't even notice yourself on the touch line anyway, what a waste of time.

2- at this stage in the games development, that 3D match engine is an embarrassment, it's so poor.

3- the game seems smoother then 15, I'm enjoying it although sorting tactics for lower league is painful.

4- the new set piece creater is either really bad or I can't figure out how to use it.

Absolutely. Especially for people like me who play the game in 2D classic this adds absolutely nothing.

2- at this stage in the games development, that 3D match engine is an embarrassment, it's so poor.

Actually I think it got worse from the first beta match engine version to the 16.1 release candidate version. Defenders seem to be all over the place, especially the FBs are all over the place.

What actually bothers me the most about the 3D game, and is the main reason why I still play the game on 2D classic, is how the 3D game looks. It's just amazing that a 3D game in 2015/16 can still look this bad. Especially with games like FIFA & PES setting graphic standards for football games you'd expect one of the best selling computer games out there to have something that is at least close, maybe one or two generations behind, but doesn't look like it's graphics are from 10 years ago.

3- the game seems smoother then 15, I'm enjoying it although sorting tactics for lower league is painful.

Haven't tried the lower leagues yet but the game overall seems to be more difficult than FM15, which is a good thing but can of course be frustrating at times.

4- the new set piece creater is either really bad or I can't figure out how to use it.

I actually love it. It's visually much better imo and you just have to get used to a few things, just like the blocks for players in the tactics screen but I'll guess after the first 100 hours you will swear both weren't ever any different to what they are now.

Martial is 137 CA and -95 PA. Anyone know what -95 means? Is this a new range between -9 and -10?

Tried a few different teams so far. Struggling to find a long term save. Anybody able to get things in game from the steam workshop? Tried to get some tactics from there but can't seem to get it to work?

So far I am enjoying success with a 4231 formotion at United. I was worried I'd get beat most games but I seem to be scoring quite a few goals but I'm still conceding shit loads. I have just got United winter defensive injury crisis too. DDG, Shaw and Smalling out for significant periods, Jones only just back from injury, and I sold Blind on deadline day for 27m to Bayern and loaned out McNair.

Also Rooney is a thundercnut, refused to introduce new players to the club so put on transfer list, very little interest from other clubs and he refused Spurs and Everton so he's now playing in the reserves.

Is it worth the purchase? I really disliked FM15 but still play FM14.

Installing it now. Will have q few days of messing around before i settle into a game. Anybody know a good site for downloading badges and that sort of thing? Or should the ones from last years game work on this one?

Some of your old ones will work or go onto sortitoutsi.com and download them from there.

I'm finding this years version really boring. Going to start ANOTHER new save when I download the full game tonight. I just cant get into it for some reason

If you disliked FM15 because of the match engine than, no it's not worth the purchase I would say. It's going even more towards the direction that a lot of micro management seems to be required for tactics. FM14 was much simpler in that way I feel.

I buy on a bi-yearly basis and loved 14, but the challenge is greater on 16 so I'm really enjoying it. I found after my first season on 14 I spent most time tapping space and never tinkering with tactics. I like the fact I have to adjust tactics a lot more in 16, makes it feel more realistic.

My only gripe is players seem to really struggle playing more than one game q week.

Yeah I remember reading a while back they wanted to introduce this. Researchers had long asked for more flexibility, because when you a have a great talent that doesn't quite merit the rare -10 they had to give him a -9, which meant he could get a PA as low as 150. I guess -95 falls in the range 160 to 190, so you're guaranteed a player with good to world class potential. I can't seem to find confirmation of this though.

For anyone who is a few years into a save, how is AI squad building like?

Used to ruin the fun of staying long at a club for me because as the playing manager you'd manually do things for a reason and keep check that it's all well . The AI would just sign players for the sake of signing and half of their transfers rot in the reserves. It would become too easy since your competitors are retarded and you'll just pull away. Many a save of mine I've left hanging not far into the 2020s.

Makes sense then why he scored just 15ish goals in his first year but got over 30 in the next 2.

Its a lot better. City bought Barkley, Chelsea bought stones, barca went for reus but I outbid them, they have gundogan, Bayern have Hummels, etc. They're all going for the top players, whether its youngsters or already established players. Its been noticeably better then previous games though. Haven't seen teams spend £40m on shite players anymore.

We don't have any -9 players apparently. Would've thought Pereira would be at least. Have him playing really well regardless though in the 3rd season. Januzaj got downgraded to 165 PA as well.

Go to the game overview screen and then under where it has the start date and country there is a bar with yellow text on it for "Additional Options". That's actually a drop down menu that's closed by default. Just click it to open it up and it's in there. Took me an age to find it too.

For god sakes. It was in the exact same place but it had been hidden.

Thanks. Not sure I would have found it if you hadn't told me.

So I caved and bought it. Two games in and i'm already stressed

My only signing so far is Lukaku. I'm completely tactically inept but managed to beat Villa 3 - 0 in the opening game, with Lukaku scoring two.

Second game was away at Everton, and since I thought I was now a tactical master I thought i'd set up a defensive tactic and play it long to Lukaku for shits and giggles. I was 1 - 0 down in 1 minute, and then up the other end Lukaku misses a penalty in the 3rd minute. I get annihilated all game but in the 70th minute I switch back to the old tactic and bring on Martial for Lukaku... who goes on to score two and win me the game.

Edit: Lukaku is a beast however. 6 goals in 4 games now.

Anyone having an issue getting customer graphics to load in the game? Facepack works, but club and competitions crests don't.

I'm totally fussy about this stuff. Can't be doing with those old Pro Evo style generic badges.

Downloading a new megapack seemed to do the trick.

Gone with an easy one to start with, to get to grips with it. Gone with Bayern as I've never done them before, though I'm doing the unthinkable and binning Robben and Ribery from the off and giving the wings to Costa and Coman. I'm also going with a 2-3-2-3 which doesn't really use a proper centre forward, so I might bait Lewandowski around and accept a megabid, and just bring through young players.

Starting line-up looks like this:

Costa(w) --- Muller(ss) --- Coman(w)

Thiago(dlp) Gotze(ap)

Alaba(wb) --- Vidal(bwm) --- Lahm(wb)

Martinez(cd) Boateng(bpd)

Neuer(sk)

Those blocks on the tactics screen, as opposed to the shirts on previous editions, are feck-ugly.

Worked perfectly for me first time mate, you're 'clearing cache' yeah?

Would it be better switching Costa and Coman and playing them inside forwards as you have no striker

I currently have settled for playing a 4-4-2 with two different setup. One counter attacking approach that I use against the big teams and some of the tougher away games and one control version that I use for most home games and the very easy away games. It's working quite well so far, Harry Kane recently bagged 5 goals in one game against Newcastle. :D

Current first team lineup:

DDG (GK-D)
Darmian(WB-S) -- Smalling (CB-D) -- Rojo (BPD-D) -- Shaw (FB-S)
Óliver (WP-A) -- Schneiderlin (CM-D) -- Kondogbia (DLP-S) -- B. Silva (W-A)
Martial (AF-A) -- Kane (DLF-S)
The team certainly still has a lot of growing up to do, Oliver, Silva, Martial and Kane all still have potential for development. My bench is also not too bad: Memphis, Rooney, Januzaj, Schweinsteiger, Herrera, Jones, Blind and Young to name the most famous.

A sign of things to come? :)

I had it as that to begin with, but it didn't seem to work as well I had hoped. It would probably tear it up if I was keeping Robben and Ribery, but Costa and Coman don't seem to play well as inside forwards. I've gathered a bit of momentum with both as wingers though, with Lahm and Alaba coming in narrower and packing the midfield, rather than overlapping. Muller's workrate has him cover a lot of ground between the hole and the centre forward position. Gotze is everywhere and scoring goals as well.

The real test will be in Europe. I could probably set Bayern up to play 4-1-5 in the league and win most games.

Are there any skins knocking around yet to make the tactics screen look less blocky? Might be asking a little much, since it only came out yesterday...

Me and my friends really need to figure this one out

We skipped 15, but are currently Liverpool, Everton and me, Southampton.
So far, My friends have both had board meetings about how poor they are doing, and now I'm slipping down the table so will be having the same convo soon

Game must be broken. There are about 50 centre backs in the game with a better CA than Chris Smalling.

Sadly Mike never received an upgrade in terms of his CA, he was undervalued a lot from the start I feel but never got upgraded. Still I think if you just look at this attributes he can hold his ground with most defenders, just his passing is a bit shit but it's not great in real life either.

think will stick with the epic FM14...

Maybe this is just happening to me but my defense is so often all over the place. Especially my FBs seem to run everywhere but not where they should be.

The current match engine seems to suffer from a case of headless chicken syndrome. It's not only the defenders who are a bit stupid I have regularly strikers miss like the most clear cut chances they can get, it's like at least 1-2 chances per game that are basically no more than a foot or two from goal and they miss it.

I'd rather they build a match engine where it's harder for teams to generate chances and not have the majority of them just miss. It's so unrealistic to have a game where I get 25 close range shots and only manage to bring 3 on goal and that happens like every other game it's so annoying.

Before I start a new game, if I copy my Graphics folder from FM15 to FM16, will it work as expected?

Argh, Lukaku and Smalling injured in the same match. 6 months and 4 months respectively. feck off.

Before I start a new game, if I copy my Graphics folder from FM15 to FM16, will it work as expected?

Yep, worked for me.

Wow.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and City all failed to get out of their Champions League groups! Will this unsettle any players by any chance?

Soo.. After my first season with United, I ended up 2nd after a terrible start which almost caused me to be sacked. I didnt get out of my CL-group, though ended up winning the EL after barely getting out of the easiest group I've ever seen

I started off the second season very well, and found myself managing Barca after they sacked their manager and being in the bottom half after 10 games. I stayed there for a massive 10 games, as the Salford City-job became available :D

Been managing Salford for 5 games now, all wins with these possession stats:

59% (A)
71% (H)
65% (A)
64% (A)
65% (H)

Darmian is class on this. After 3 seasons, he had a 7.36 rating, then 7.52 and then a 7.93 average rating for all comps.

Not to discredit that but fullbacks get far too high a rating in the last couple of FMs. Especially as centre mids have to score or get an assist to usually get a good rating.

Anyway with that said. I bought FM16. Started up with Dortmund and quickly did a tactic that is basically a 4-2-3-1 but with a holding mid. Won 9 games all by a single goal so far. But I've been the second best team in most of them

So the two tactics stuff is really working for me so far. Pretty good imitation of Simeone's style at that as well, having conceded only 18 goals in 31 games so far a great defense has been the basis for my success so far. My attack has been far from bad though. Especially Harry Kane has hit ground and is running away in the golden shoe table with now 25 league goals and 28 overall goals. Martial unfortunately missed the last 2 months with strained knee ligaments but is now bat at the most important phase of the season.

I'm also in the quarter finals of the CL and coming up against the man himself, Simeone and Atletico are waiting for me, will be interesting to see if my interpretation of his playing style works better than SI's.

Season going tits up fast, 5 defeats in 6 games knocking me out of the F.A cup and Champions league and 3 straight defeats in the league (Arsenal 1-0, West brom 2-0 and Everton 4-2) that Everton game was the 1st time in 10 games we scored more then 1 goal (did beat Sunderland 2-0 but 1 was an OG) if I lose to Chelsea could see an 11 point gap to a 1 point gap

Edit 2-0 down after 11 min then thankfully Martial scored his 1st goal in over 11 hours and Luke Shaw 1st goal for the club after 82 min drew 2-2

Next up home to 20th place and already relegated Bournemouth
