It's not really "somehow"... Memphis has been a beast on FM for a few years already
He was a beast for me in FM2014, last year he just never fulfilled his promise. The first 6 months of my first season in FM16 he was woeful, he offered nothing but missed chances. Now he has turned it around and is banging them in.

In FM15 he won 3 Balon D'Or while playing for me. Absolute beast in FM15 and seemed to have been nerfed a bit in FM16.

Scored something like 50 goals in 3 straight seasons for me in fm15 playing as a left inside forward.

He was woeful for me in 15, I couldn't get any consistency out of him for some reason. He was replaced in the second season when we went on to dominate Europe.

What do you guys do when you're telling a player his performance in the last match was unacceptable and he tells you he was excellent despite the fact he cost you two goals and got a 5.9 rating? I've started automatically fining them, I suspect this will backfire.

Is it just me or the game is abit too hard ?

Played as United, reload saves (the whole season, not just one game) 20+ times, tried 5 variations of 442 (nothing extreme, just working tactics from 2015), tried every "EVERY" single thing and the AI seems to outsmart me almost every game up to a point I don't even have a ball :(

They make it harder for the tactical catterpillar to enjoy the tweaking, but this is frustrating, I want to enjoy Tamagotchi wonderkids farming and leave tactical tweaking to minimum.

Argh... who was it the one who says this version is stable, I don't think they manage to fix the match engine , something they fail every fecking year

@Sky1981

The ME always needs tweaking but I don't feel the game is too hard atm, actually gets as easy as it always has been the game after 2-3 seasons. It takes a couple of transfer windows to get the right players in for your tactics to work to perfection but with the financial power of Manchester United that never takes me long.

I also barely change anything when it comes to tactics. I have two tactics, one I use against defensive teams and one that I use against teams who press me and I have been winning pretty much every trophy now for 2 seasons in a row and I'm in my fourth season with United.

One thing I can only recommend is to use a DM in your formation. for me that took care of a lot of the defensive problems I had at the beginning. The problem with this years FM is that FBs tend to play too narrow if there is no one covering the space in front of the FBs, this is somewhat fixed if you have a DM there that does cover this area, a CM won't do the job in this ME atm. So if you have a CM with a defend duty, which you normal should, just put him into the DM slot. Well at least this is something that helped my a lot of gaining defensive stability. Oh and get better defenders, Smalling isn't as good in FM as he is IRL and Jones can be a bit shit too at times, although he actually makes a good right FB.

Currently, I play a formation with one striker but I have about 8 young striker prospects out on loan all over the world. I get match reports for all of them and it's quite interesting to see who will eventually be amongst the 2/3 I stick with and who will have to be sold.

I bought a Columbian regen who is 203cm (6ft 8) he's now 20 and looks a real beast. His finishing is 19 and his strength is unbelievable, he pretty much has all the required stats: excellent heading and composure etc, however he's only scored 3 goals in like 20 games for his current club in Italy, quite interested to see how he fares in the Premiership.

I've always thought a defensive midfielder was a must, this is the first time in a couple of years where it's not the first thing I bought because Schniederlin was already there. I usually go all out with an anchorman, but this year it's been a DM but sometimes I play a deep lying playmaker there with a defend duty. Ajer or BFS are excellent at it.

I went through an injury crisis. Odegaard, Coutinho, Kagawa, Aubaymeng, Berradi were all out. Had to play Ginter as a striker and he scored twice:wenger:

I wouldn't speak to him. I never bother with that sort of interaction, because it's just so easy to get it wrong. I swear I've said "well done for winning that award" before now, and the player in question has replied "YOU DON'T KNOW ME. YOU'RE NOT EVEN MY REAL DAD"

The thing that really annoys me is when you have one player that plays really well, in a scrappy 1-0 win, so you say "we have to do better next time lads" and he goes into a megasulk, even though you do an individual talk to say he did well.

Won the league and CL on iPhone version in first season with United. Only purchased Nabil Fekir at the start, and he done brilliant. Martial and Depay banged in a shitload of goals also.

What's the iPhone version like? Worth getting, or is the player database small?

It's pretty good to be fair. Obviously database not as big, basically reserve players an up so no depth to u19s or below, you can nominate 1 nation to have all leagues available to manage, other 3 nations are the respective top league only.

It's fun and easy. You don't interact with the media at all. It is basically a fairly streamlined version. It keeps me occupied at work!

currently doing my homework :(

It's not about the DM, i always have a BWM on defend, but it seems that there's abit of imbalance in the match engine, although there's one occasion on my first run where it clicks with one tactic for whole season.

Oh, I cheated a bit, put 150M on transfer fund, but on the flip side I sold half the squad : Rooney, Fellaini, Rojo, Blind, Carrick, Valencia, so it kinda balance up :(, but having 22+ Players joining is a bit hassle , i don't know how far that affected my team

The one I bought:
Lukaku (40M)
Thiago Maia (6.5)
Donnarumma (2)
Malcom (10)
Ludwig Augustinson
Pogba (50M, raising 18M)
Pione Sisto (6M)
Ruben Neves (If he wanted, 12.5M I set the minimum release clause)
Andrija Zivkovic (a steal at 1.5M, potential GOAT)
Daniele Rugani (Abit overkill at 30M)
Calum Chambers (17.5M)
and heaps of cheapies

I'll gonna give it another try on 442, what's your team instruction btw?

I always go on "agressive" it'll be you're not good enough for a lost or a 1-0 win against weaker sides, and passionate good result for 2-0 win or a tough 1-0 win. Never praise a draw / comeback no matter how good they might seems.

I finished the first season with Norwich in 17th and just after the season ended I got a message saying that the board budgets would be 29m transfer and 1.3m wages. However, it is now July, I've set my expectations for the season, and my budgets are still at 1m transfer and 900k wage. Is this a bug or what happened? I haven't signed anyone since last summer.

In my experience this has a severe effect on the team. There used to be a bar for how much your team ha gelled and while it doesn't exist anymore since, I think FM13, could be wrong though, it still is a hidden thing with a team. The longer you keep the core of your team the better your team will play. It has been like this for a while in FM now, that's why I try to not bring in more than 5 players at any point in time and once my team is settled I only go for one or two players a season, apart from a few talented youngsters.

All a bit Van Gaal for me. Took a last minute own goal to equalise here. Got 37 goals in 21 matches but considering 7 were in a single match against Newcastle it's been pretty abysmal.

I sold Hummels to Atletico and I'm surprised only one player had an issue. He agreed after I said Hummels had been useless - which he really hadn't, I just like to sell key players every season to keep things fresh.

So Klopp's just got a job at Arsenal, which is all well and good, but it flashed up on my screen:

Mainz legend Jürgen Norbert Klopp ....

feck off his middle name is Norbert

In my game he has been appointed City manager in 2019. They are pushing me hard for the title this season. With 17W 3D 1L so far this season they are sitting top but I have 3 games in hand and not lost a game so far.

I play 4-4-2 with Ath Madrid

Gk
Fb (au) CB CB fb (au)
W (s) dlp (s) dlp (d) wp (a)
Af cf (s)

TI

Control, fluid, quick tempo, mixed passing, slightly high defence line and retain possession

Beat both Real Madrid and Barcelona at home also undefeated after 15 games

Hope it helps

Thinking of getting this. On FM14 i played control at home and counter away and no matter what strenght the opponent this always worked for me. Even countering away against a lower league team. Would this sort of tactic still work on this version? I skipped fm15.

Surely this can't be right?

Has anyone been able to reach 100% scouting knowledge so far? I'm at 56% right now, been climbing from 40% til 56% in a few months..

Some fecker playing for City banged 59 goals last season.

I was expecting one of my boys to pick up the Golden Boot, then this guy shows up.

after 20 reload, finally decided to forget all the manuals I read and go along with my trusted simple 442

GK
FB (D) CB (Stopper) CB (Cover) FB (D)
Winger (A) CM (D)* CM (S) Winger (A)
Poacher (A) Complete Forward (s)

*because the BWM is broken i hear, keeps on getting red carded every match, hence I just create a CM and custom tweak it.

Managed to finish 2nd and winning the Europa cup :(

Finally, I can move on from the tedious 1st season, but I'm close to getting sacked :(

Is that even possible?

Recently I scouted nations, England, Italy, France, Spain, set them on 15-21 hot prospect, Ongoing. Nice that they have "ongoing" for nation scouting :D

The rest is 3 on south american region, 3 on central europe and 1 each on various regions (minus the southeast asia and other not interesting region)

No idea, but I'm certainly going to try! Been adding scouting affiliates all over the world as soon as the board option is available, and been sending my scouts to the weirdest places for a 1 year scouting mission. My scouts now got extensive knowledge of Central Africa which is probably a first

Yeah, I got two scouts running about in Caribbean right now. Must be the best job ever, scouting like 2 teams for a full year :D

Bit of a weird one on my game Carrick's contract at United was mutually terminated.

He's now been called up to the England team in October despite not having a new club.

- Norwich got Oviedo on a free on deadline day, I offered him a new contract 5-6 times but every single time his work permit got rejected because of Costa Rica's ranking being poor. That obviously didn't matter when Norwich came knocking.
- Gibson, Cleverley sold on a cheap.
- Pienaar, Barry retired.
- Ødegaard out for 3-4 months.
- Barkley out for 3-4 months.
- Mirallas out for 5 months.
- Deulofeu out for 2 months.
- Besic out for 4-6 weeks.
- Lucas Silva who I signed on deadline day played 5 minutes as a sub in his debut and is now out for 8-10 months.
- Lennon who was complaining about lack of games in my first season is somehow also long term injured when I need him now.

All of a sudden I've barely got midfielders left just days after the window closed. McCarthy and Peraira (on loan from United) are my only two midfielders (including wingers) for the next few months. I signed a couple of decent prospects in the summer but both are on loan. The irony is that I have four strikers and all are fit for fight.

I'll be trying out a narrow 433 with one of my CB's as DM and three strikers. Might work with Lukaku as target man. Feel dirty using defenders in midfield after Pogba, Fergie and the Blackburn game.
