Gaming Football Manager 2015

Crazy schedule at the end of my season. 9 games in May. Play every weekend. The Europa League final is 4 days after Juventus away and 3 days before Milan at home. What the hell Serie A?

I've enjoyed this to much.

Alright, so I decided to give this thing a new try since it's been patched up now a few times.
The game seems much better, and less annoying. Still not used to all the new links locations and overview but that's new on every FM version, so it's not a huge downer.

I tried to start off with Manchester United.
Dissatisfied with what i had to work with (since I like playing some sort of 4-3-3 or 2-3-1-3-1) I ended up selling half the squad.
Out went Fletcher, Anderson, Nani, Falcao, Rafael, Cleverley, Van Persie, Young, Valencia, Fellaini, Mata, Chicharito, Evans, Blackett and Carrick (he went in the winter window)
In came Witsel, Sciglio, Moura (I forgot about Reuses release clause until it was too late), Kovacic, Lacazette, Umtiti (Varane wasn't available), Coleman & Pogba (he came in the winter window)

Before the winter exchange of Carrick out & Pogba in I had spent £200 million & sold for a total of £165 million.
Since I'm at the top of the table (comfortably so with 57 points out of a possible 63, with 21/18/3/0) and with healthy wages I decided to tell the board that I'm going to win the league.
In return i got few more quids to work with and I wanted to get the lost son back home, but in my head it was between him & Strootman. Roma didn't want to discuss any deal about Strootman early on and he wasn't interested because of the lack of Champions League football, that along with Pogba having massive talent and going as a home-grown played made it a lot easier of a choice to spend the £72 million that they demanded for him.

I'm still uncertain about the CB's, even if they have done fantastically well.
Currently it's Smalling as first choice on the right with it being a toss-up between Umtiti & Rojo on the left.
Jones plays more of the expected hard-games (against teams like Stoke & West Ham) where duels seem more important to me than being on the cover and balanced at the back.

MY first XI is hard to nail down, but on paper i guess it would look like this:

Rooney
Di Maria ----------- Moura
Kovacic - Witsel
Pogba
Shaw - Rojo - Smalling - Coleman
De Gea

The only concern within the squad so far has been Januzaj wanting Champions League football (though he didn't bother much after I told him to wait until the end of the season and see if we'll manager to get in there), Jones being a bit scared of the lack of depth in the team (I'm okay with that since we don't play in Europe this season and with everything but the CB's fixed i'm sure adding depth won't be an issue before next season) & Ander Herrera being a bit unsettled by the lack of play-time (He has played in 16 matches out of 25...), I'm considering selling him next season and replace him with Tielemans since the trio in the middle with Kovacic, Witsel & Pogba is so strong.

Powell & Zaha seem to have a lot of worth (£6,25m + £10,5m), but fairly little potential according to my coaches, so I'll be cashing in on them in the summer. Wilson however I can't seem to loan out or play enough, and his worth should increase in a season or two so he'll be given more time to prove that he can reach a good standard. My coaches reckons he can be a good Premier League striker.

For next season I am also considering selling Blind, since I have an agreement in place for Lucas Romero, who will work fine as an understudy to Pogba. I'm going to bolster the youth setup with more talented youth-players like Ødegaard as well if I can find a few (please let me know if there are any super-talents who could play youth football and end up as home-grown players, a great squad-player like potential is also welcome, but i prefer my squad-players to be able to fill more than one role)

I'm working on having Lacazette, Moura & Januzaj as wingers who can play on both wing either naturally or as close as possible, so that all my wingers can fill in if one gets hurt. Witsel is working a lot on trying to be able to play the DLP role in case of emergencies as well.
Guess I'll try to pick up more good coaches before the next season starts as well, to be able to handle more players with ease. I'd also like to up the quality a bit since no category has 5 full stars-

Feels good to have FM up and running again after the extreme disappointment felt over the game when it was new and unpatched.

How the hell do you all get so much money as United? I turn off the first transfer window (always do in FM games), but the board only gave me £20m in the winter window. I spent about half of it then and then had it increased up to £30m for the summer window in 2015.

I raised £100m in player sales but because of the "financial position" of the club, only 20% of the transfer fee raised was offered to me, so I only actually had about £50m to work with.

Started a save as Torino to try and return them to former glories, and possibly my first ever FM Serie A save. Might have to play it more often, the quality of the league is shocking, but probably realistic, with both AC and Inter Milan are struggling near relegation at the end of November and sacking their managers.

Also pleasantly surprised by Torino's squad, and the fact they're in the Europa. Playing a typical Italian 4-3-1-2 with 3 loan midfielders from the original squad in CM (Nocerino, Ruben Perez and El Kaddouri) and then the legend that is Tim Cahill as a shadow striker behind Dybala (main signing) and Quaqliarella, with Darmian charging up the right flank to provide the crosses for Tim. Still unbeaten and tearing up an easy Europa league group. Dybala and Quagliarella have 31 goals between them, Cahill got injured for 2 months but still has 6 in 11 games.

On a side note, Michael Bradley has been an absolute star in my game. I couldn't get either of the Benders and he seemed the next best thing in that sort of role. He's been brilliant for me, including a last minute winner against Liverpool rifled in from outside the area!

I start out with around £70 million when i work for becoming a title contender.

Finished my first season in this game. It was a great one. Managed to live up to all my personal expectations.

Summer transfers
In: Lorenzo Di Silvestri 2m (co-own), Balanta 7m, Tielemans 10m (loaned him back, mistake), Depay 18m
Out: Cuadrado to Chelsea 40m, Aquilani to Shakhtar 5m, Iakovenko 250k
January:

In: Odegaard 1,5m and Lucas Romero 5m.

I've then managed to get Bakkali on free along with Roberto Pereyra, a team of the year performer for Juve on loan from Udinese.

I finished 3rd in the league with the same point total as Sampdoria, 10 points behind Roma and 15 behind Juventus. Sampdoria went on a crazy run. In their last 10 games they won 8, drew 1 and lost 1. And what a crucial loss that was. Second last game of the season. Had they gotten a point they would have finished 3rd. Whilst they played those 10 games I had to play 19 games in the same time period.

Finished 2nd in my Europa League group. Didn't lose a knockout game. Steamrolled over Sevilla in the semis and Athletic in the finals. I managed to sub off players for a rest in all three games.

Italian cup was easy. Won Roma 4-0 in the quarter finals and Lazio 4-0 in the final.

Regarding my playing style, I realized early on that it was hopeless to try and defend with this team. Every defensive tactic backfired. My away form in the league wasn't good. So I just attacked and attacked. My game completely changed simply by putting my full backs as attacking instead of support.

General starting lineup was:
Neto
Di Silvestri - Savic - Balanta - Pasquale
Romero/Badelj
Borja Valero - Matti Fernandez/Badelj
Joaquin ---------------------------- Depay
Gomez
GK: Sweeper keeper - support
Full backs: Attacking
CBs: Limited and defend
DMC: Regista
MCR: MC - support
MCL: Advanced - support
AMR - Winger - attack
AML - Inside Forwar - attack
SC - Advanced forward

Attaking mentality, flexible shape. Shorter passing, pass into space, run at defense, exploit the flanks, play wider, push higher up, close down more, use tighter marking, be more expressive.

Key players:
Mario Gomez: 43 (3) games, 50 goals, 8 assists, 14 PoM, 7,61 avg rating.
Joaquin: 49 (3) games, 16 goals, 25 assists, 7,41 avg rating.
Depay: 38 (5) games, 16 goals, 11 assists, 7,30 av rating.
Di Silvestri: 47 games, 2 goals, 15 assists, 5,32 tackles, ~14,3km per match, 7,30 av rating

Pasquale, Romero, Borja Valero, Balanta where also great and Marin, Gonzalo Rodriguez, Rossi and Pizzaro all did well off the bench.

A lot of players are wanted after the season, Balanta wants to join Monaco because of money, Joaquin wants to go home to Spain, Pizarro is retiring. Replacing Joaquin will be a big problem. Not sure if Bakkali can fill that role straight away.

In most transfer windows I make a profit, that might have something to do with it. Usually get something insane like £200-300m as a budget, so it'd be practically impossible to spend it all without completely gutting the team. About 15 of the 20 most valuable players are mine as it is...

Hm...
Anyone know of a good replacement for Rooney who is under 25, preferably? (I already have Lacazette who can play the deep striker role, but i'll need at least another one + the talents I have)
He's on quite big wages and is having a phenomenal season (33 games, 30 goals and 13 assists so far), and with his lack of professional attitude i think this will be my best chance to cash in on him.

Money shouldn't be an issue, i expect to get around £40m for him, and will probably have a lot more to add to that since I'm looking very, very likely to win the league and quite possibly a cup or two.

I was thinking of Vincent Aboubakar from Porto, but since he's from cameroon I don't really want him, because of the afraican cup of nations.
I will try to get Lewandowski, but I strongly believe he will refuse me as soon as i lay in any sort of bid for his services.
Benzema is possible, but he will be wanting bigger wages than Rooney is on now, so that's not happening.
(Note he doesn't have to be high-profile, I'd love someone who wouldn't mind being second-fiddle to Lacazette)

I'll have a look at him.
I just beat City 7-2 at Old Trafford.
Witsel scored 3 goals, all on penalties.
Lacazette had 1 goal and 4 assists.

I think I'll be going with Lacazette up top, with James Wilson getting second-string role & having Moura learn how to play as a striker in case it gets needed. Worst case I'll end up playing with no striker, but I'm sure i can find a system for that if needed.
Trying to scout for some talents now for my U18 team forward, i don't have much faith in the current crop of youngsters I have (bar Januzaj, Shaw, Ødegaard & Wilson).
Takes some time to find the top talents though, need to higher the best scouts in England at least, and possibly spain/germany/italy/france as i find a lot of top european talents in the earlier games have come from one of the top leagues.

I didn't know other players would be annoyed that I wouldn't sell a player. It is all however a bit over the top I feel. Like the caf and their handling of transfer rumors.

Balanta says he wants to join Monaco because he gets more money there. No chance at a contract offer, no offer from Monaco even. I say that I won't sell him. Then and offer comes in from Monaco a week later. I paid 7m for him and selling him for 40m eleven months later is pretty good business so I accept. After the bid is accepted, two players approach me and are unhappy that I won't allow him to leave. That's just ridiculous behavior.

Fosu Mensah and Milinkovic Savic are big prospects that are already in the youth team.

Savic is starting keeper for United in my game in 19/20, TFM went to Chelsea for £16m odd. Adnan took a while to develop but my scouts say he's 3 and half star now, attribs look good. Wilson never got a chance, went out on loan loads by the look of it. Untied themselves have been up and down over the seasons, dropping out of CL at one point. Blanc is now the manager.

Belgium keep pumping out quality youngsters in my game, either through youth teams or buying in young Africans for cheap and developing them. Picked up a few nice regens over the seasons from there.

What's a good lower level PL/La Liga team to go with after Utd gets too easy, in the vein of maybe Southampton in FM14? I walk the league with Utd these days and my annual budget is around £150m.

Villa. Potential there and they've got a good history that the game will constantly remind you of but it's a fairly difficult job to start. Failing that Derby if you want to drop a level down.

Hull, some cracking young players, bit of coin, plenty of room to improve and lots of deadwood to sell for a shakeup. Might not want a club that starts with European football, though.

I've heard Palace are fun this year.

So gave in and bought this a few weeks back when it was cheap as chips on Steam.

As always I pick a decent team with decent money first time out to get a feel for the game nechanics before I look to take on a more challenging role (generally have 3 modes, decent team, make crap team good and then once bored I make united all conquering). Went with Spurs to see how I would get on.

So far i have found the transfer system to be frustrating. You'll have to overpay for anyone with potential and pay through the nose for agent fees and starting wages. Then when you are looking to sell players you get rock bottom offers and plenty of the teams only offer installments (but God forbid you make a similar offer to them for their players). Just means you have to sell 2 players to bring in one with potential and bargains are few and far between. Contract negotiations come too frequently for the likes of Vertonghen who looked for multiple contracts in one year because United were interested.

Scouting is a bit meh too, not sure if it is the standard of scout at Spurs or the stats of the player but i was told to avoid signing Nathaniel Clyne which seemed strange. I've tried to avoid using wonderkids and relied more on players I have heard of or seen in real life.

Player interactions are strange as well. Had a good first season, sneaked into 4th place and won the FA Cup after a relatively easy route to the final. Mood is great in the team. Lennon comes up to me and asks to leave to join Everton. My response is along the lines of 'you've been a great servant to the club and I will allow you to leave if an offer from Evertone comes in'. He hasn't played a lot in my first team, Townsend, Lamela and Ericksen play behind Soldado or Adebayor and the most he got is a run in the COC or substitue appearances. So he leaves and suddenly the team turns against me!

Or when you congratulate a team member for a debut international goal or appearance and they basically tell you to feck off, they dont care about your praise or that they dont want to feel pressured into scoring more regularly. Its a compliment you nonce, accept it!

I'm in my second season now and it seems to be weekly that some player is coming in to complain about lack of game time despite fairly regular rotation. I promise more game time and if they dont receive it they get told I cant make promises about game time and they just accept it. I have seen their mood go from abysmal to good by telling them I can't make promises, even though i clearly did.

But despite all this, its as addictive as ever and am already having that thing of not liking players/managers in real life because their FM counterparts have rebuffed me.

It's worth unsettling the player (or looking for players who are unsettled already and making it worse), that's the only consistent way I've found of getting good players on the cheap. Otherwise it's a nightmare.

It's not even just scouting, coaches often have ridiculous opinions of which players are the best in your squad. I guess that's just an irritating detail, whereas scouts getting stuff wrong can actually be a problem. Maybe it's a case of needing to scout the player several times to get a clearer picture? Haven't tried that myself.

Yeah that kind of stuff is the worst part of the game for me. Thankfully it happens to me very rarely now, but early on it was constant.

Or when you congratulate a team member for a debut international goal or appearance and they basically tell you to feck off, they dont care about your praise or that they dont want to feel pressured into scoring more regularly. Its a compliment you nonce, accept it!
Yeah I don't get the player responses to tons of the interactions. Pisses me off when they get upset over something I said when I was just trying to keep up morale, and when there's no understandable reason for them to get pissed off about it. Wish it was possible to turn that shit off.

 that's ridiculous, I'll give that one a go as well. In my Chivas save I every week or so I had two or three players - different ones every time - complaining about lack of game time. One had even started 3 and been subbed on in 2 games out of the last 5 - all of which were played within the last 3 weeks. Mind boggling.

But despite all this, its as addictive as ever and am already having that thing of not liking players/managers in real life because their FM counterparts have rebuffed me.
Yup that's the problem, it's impossible not to play :D

The game time thing is a bit silly, alright. I had Van Persie come up to me at the start of January and complain about not getting enough first team football... he broke his arm in September and was out for three months! He's come on in every game since he's been fit again as a sub to try and get his match fitness back up, but apparently that's not enough even though he's only been back in full training for just over a fortnight. I think there's some algorithm that looks at how many games he's had over a set period of time and then fires that he's annoyed, withou taking into account injuries and the like.

Sanchez is unsettled at Arsenal due to a lack of first team football. I'm considering making a move for him in January, but it seems to me that he's actually really under-rated in this game and not actually very good (hence Arsenal aren't playing him in the first place).

Got started this week with United. De gea dropped a bombshell that he wants to move to PSG when there wasn't any offer. Made him stay with a promise that I'll take United to CL. He seemed happy enough.

Had a good start to the season, with City and us winning the early matches including one against Arsenal. Then lost the away derby to Liverpool, and got thrashed by City 6-1 at Etihad with an attacking assymetric 4-1-4-1(1Dm & 1 CM). Made a new tactic 4-1-4-1 with a DM (Reg&HB), 2 CM(DLP&B2B) and 2 Wide (wingers), specially for the away match against Chelsea. Was probably the toughest and closest match of the season and drew 1-1, thanks to some solid defensive work and De gea. This would probably be my tactic against Top4 teams.

Created 4-2-3-1 with 2 DMs for other teams, and has got me 2 good wins. Added Tielemans for my reserves and 2 wonderkid CB's for cover. Hummels rejected the contract offer after Dortmund accepted a 35 mill bid.
Got Meulensteen in along with another GK coach. Might clear out couple of existing coaches who have low coaching attributes. Tactics and Ball control are still at 3 stars.
All in all, a good start considering the injuries earlier in the season, and no midfield reinforcements. Unsettled Geis to get him for approx 7.5 mill next window.

Don't know how to use Fellaini, and have told him he will be sold after he asked for game time. And not enough dough to resign Falcao. I probably won't since I can keep Hernandez for free. Rooney has been my best striker, and I have finally found a way to get RVP back to form.

Whats the best route to unsettle players then? Not somethign I have done. Is it flattery?

Make an enquiry or have a bid rejected to begin with. The player usually kicks up a fuss. In Geis case, I got 2 messages saying he is upset and couple of team mates are angry he hasn't been given a dream move. I made another enquiry mid season around November, when he went missing from training for a week. Then you just have to negotiate the amount when they respond back.
It varies from player to player. In another case, the club rebuffed my enquiry. But in this case, the player didn't go missing from training.

edit: Tried flattery with Pogba. He basically professed his love for Juventus in return and signed a new contract.

If you right click on it and go to properties and there to the update tab, is it set on 'Always keep this game up to date'?

It is, I really don't have a clue whats up with it! Ah well got a save with Debrecen, it can keep me going until at least 15.3, then hopefully it might update then!

@GBBQ

Basically what @The Taurean said. Once the player is mildly unsettled you should start flattering them, since that increases their desire to leave. Doing the flattery first often makes the player dislike you for some reason

Rashford can develop nicely too, Wilson is a class apart from the lot of them, though!

Wilson didn't develop at all for me (sold to QPR for 2m then released on a free a few years later). Rashford did OK (sold for 7m I think), Mitchel was the same.

Most my good prospects have been regens I've brought in, but I have one that is 'the next messi' that cames through the academy.

Kovatic and Pogba are incredible in midfield but Pogba can only play 2 games in a row, I have Semper (Barca player) and Gundogan as backups / more defensive all round players. Depay is a fecking monster, Reus is very good. Di Maria I sold once he hit 31 as he declined massively. Munir from Barca started off badly but has become a goal scoring machine. Barbosa did well for a while, sold for 22m(ish) and then was sold later for 4m (or something). Draxler is pretty good on my save too. Sold Rooney in my second season to Arsenal.

Cuadrado went to Chelsea (it was an omen) and continues to destroy my team every time I play them.

How are you guys managing requests to join other teams for CL football? Can't keep making promises to everyone.
I will have a hard time during transfer window when I try to move on couple of players like Fellaini.
Usually just tell them we'll make it the next year and then they leave if I don't but then that's not happened yet

I just use the option that basically says thanks for letting me know your feelings, but you're not going anywhere. Usually works a treat :)

Wonder who that chap is going to be :)

I tell them to feck off, the morale plummets for a while but you can usually get it back up. If they constantly disagree with you, just sell them. I sold osvaldo for 3.5 million off the back of a 20 + goal season because he was whining all the time. The squad seems to have become less bitchy as a resulting.

You can try and click on games up there on the bar in your library. A drop down menu will appear. Click downloads. If the update is there stuck in queue then you can push it up. If it isn't, I recommend re-installing the game. Your saves will still be intact.
