Gaming Football Manager 2014

That's one of the main formations I've been using on this save, for months in real life, and a decade in game time. Lately I prefer the usual 4-1-2-2-1/4-3-3, but the 3-4-1-2(or 5-2-1-2 as I line it up in the tactic screen), is still the "big game" setup.

I'd suggest swapping the box to box for a CM(a), he'll preform a similar role, but will get into the box a tad later, so shouldn't get in the way of the forwards. He'll also score more, in my experience. I also prefer the DLF role, but that's mainly because I don't like my strikers taking long shots so often like a false 9(in game) does.

FWIW, I find the FM false 9 acts nothing like the role does in real life, if that's what you're after, I'd suggest a Trequartista, though I can't remember if they need some instruction modifications.
I tried that out and it's working much better. The players are making better use of the space within the pitch with your suggestions. Thanks :)

Anyone else tried the Steam FC Challenge?

3rd season in, and I'm sitting in League 2. Just noticed that my board are in the process of building a new stadium.

Would be mind-boggling if they expand upon capacity. Steam Arena atm can house 200000 people
Link me?

Isn't it basically what every save turns into after a few years. :D

Yeah, but this is just insane. Cash balances are approaching 1billion pounds

Lost my first game EVER in this save to Arsenal in the League Cup. Late winner from Podolski. Schiesse. Think the unbeaten streak accross all competitions was something like 138 matches. Still undefeated in three seasons of league campaigns though.

The False 9 is an abomination in this game! All they seem to do is shoot from ridiculous positions and end up getting a very low rating because of it.

Tried it (both versions) with the Modern Day Legends file and that was a no go. Impossible to sign any of them first season.

i just downloaded this on android, is there any option to change your coaching staff? if so, how does one do it? thanks in advance.

Didn't try with the Modern Day Legends file myself, but was able to get guys like Ward-Prowse, Stones, AOC who provide a great base to start from, especially in the Skrill South

Might try it like that or use the version straight from the Premier League. Had a trial run and bar the Messi and Ronaldo types, players were willing to sign.

Trying to decide my next save, at the moment I'm considering these.
Crewe - Talent Factory/no transfers in,
Wigan - Homegrown Only/transfers in allowed(this could also be done English only),
Stoke - Smash/build a long-direct ball team that plays dirty(actually this could be any team in the game, long as I build that style),
Bradford City - usual turn team into wordies.

They all sound fun for various reasons, just can't make my mind up.

I vote Crewe.
That's where I'm leaning at the moment, started a save, eyeballing tactics now, their default is 4-1-2-2-1, but I want to do something different, at the moment I'm thinking 4-4-1-1, with secondary tactics of 4-2-2-1-1 and 4-2-2-2, though I should probably have a 3/5 back system for defensive needs.
Why England? Why not go abroad?
No particular reason, but I've done most other countries I'm interested in, Italy(Sassuolo, Roma), France(Red Star, ASSE twice, Vannes), Germany(Leipzig), Spain(Barca B, Bilbao, Espanyol, Real Madrid), Austria(Salzburg). I could do Portugal, I suppose, maybe the Netherlands, neither seem particularly appealing though(Ajax would be good for the Talent Factory, albeit easy).

Gone for this Steam FC challenge, here's the 1st team I assembled.

GK - Steele
LB - Haidara
CB - Nastasic
CB - Stones
RB - Byram
CM - Hughes
CM - Ward-Prowse
RAM - Chamberlain
CAM - Januzaj
LAM - Gauld
ST - Ings

Crewe is going to be hard, coaching needs a massive upgrade, yet I have no space to add coaches. Max Clayton leaving on a bosman is annoying too, hopefully I can cash in straight away.

Was thinking of doing the same with Crewe, will be interesting to see how far they can be taken just with their academy. They've already got a pretty good squad to start off with.

Might give them a shot myself. As well as a "youth factory" challenge in some other lowly euro league in an attempt to push them up the rankings

@Earthquake or anyone else that can lend some advice. This is my senior squad as I inherited it at the start of the game. Having a hard time trying to accommodate an AM, my DM's, and Nenad Milijas. I also want to play with wingers

Milinkovic is yellow at LM and Pecnic is slightly better at RM. They're my first choice atm.

I've also got Lazovic for an AML as well who is highly rated, he's out for 5 months though

Dang, if they were more comfortable, or if you're happy role training them, I'd go

ST
AM
ML-------------MR
DM----DM
LB---CB---CB---RB

Or this if you want 3 at the back, and don't mind a lack of wingbacks

ST----ST
AM
ML------------MR
DM----DM
CB---CB---CB

Funnily enough, these are two of my starting formations

Think I will have to train a few in the end then

I've used these two on pretty much all my saves;

ST
AML----AM----AMR
-----CM
DM-----
LB---CB---CB---RB

or

ST
AM
CM----CM
DM
LB---CB---CB---RB

What level?

Hmmmm, this Crewe save is weird so far.
Exceeding expectations in the league, which are avoid relegation. Could be doing far, far better though, playing proper wank.
Mashed in the cups. Mashed.......
Couple of key long term injuries. Balls.
Youth aren't developing fast enough, coaches are awful, don't have the staff space to hire non shit ones. 5 staff at min, somehow, as only 3 are allowed.
3 of my key players are loans, I briefly considered buying them, but that'd be against the game plan. Shame as they'll never be good enough for their home clubs anyway. Also, they were already at the club, no transfers in includes loans, so I can't replace them, or extend their visits.

Still, a bit fun so far, I guess it'll be more fun once intakes start happening.

Holy crap! A 15 year old kid just popped up on my intake that's already two stars CA. Premiership potential apparently, I'll probably pop him on the bench straight away.

Quite a bit happier with the intakes here, compared to my other recent clubs where you get 20 1.5 star PA chumps.

EDIT: Just looked, outside of creativity, he's better in every conceivable way than my current 3 star CA first choice striker......

Fancy doing a Soton save trying to build a decent squad with all the money from sales. I'd just put 50% of the total sales into the budget and build a team.

'kin hell, 3 of my players have popped in transfer requests, because we're under-performing in the league.

40 played, in 9th, 2 points short of a playoff spot.

Media prediction of 22nd.

Two of the fecks have been shit all season, but my current youth squads don't really have players to fill their spots. Why isn't it an option in the chat to say "we'd be doing better if you hadn't been shit all year, should have dropped your ass months ago"? That's be well handy.
