Gaming Football Manager 2014

Another loanee suffers a serious injury, feck sake. The fourth summer will be trouble, going to have a hand full of half crippled foreign youngsters that will be difficult to shift out on loan.

Hmmm, might have a case of "can't see the forest for the trees" here. In efforts to replace Batshuayi, I scouted, and scouted, and signed a few deals for strikers, including going for Djordjevic(couldn't say no....), I didn't even consider my own youth team.

Had a quarter final cup game, against admittedly a lower league team, and I popped some kids on. A 16 year old striker, who was more developed than I realised(looking at his attributes afterwards), bagged 5 goals and a perfect 10.0 rating. Kid has 17 for Finishing, 15 for heading, 16 Jumping Reach, 6'6 beast of a kid.
He'll be 17 in summer, I guess leaving him one more year to develop is probably better in the long run.

So perhaps obviously, Grant Holt didn't last long as Man Utd manager.

He has been overtaken by the tactical genius of.... Shaun Derry

For feck's sakes.

I'm 4 seasons in and Moyes is still in the job. Not won the Prem yet though he has a Europa League trophy. Januzaj got sold to Bayern though. Welbeck and his mate Cleverley are both at Spurs and are the reigning league champions. The state of the transfers in this game. :(

Moyes lasted about 2 seasons in my game, and then got replaced by AVB, who ended up lasting about 8 years which was quite a stint for FM. Since then it's just been ludicrous appointment after appointment :D I turned them down as my Roma game is going nicely, but I feel pretty bad for them now.

3rd season was my most successful yet at Salzburg.
Not much happened in the winter window, set up the Batshuayi deal, and picked off some prospects.
The league was well in control, despite rarely playing my best 11, with 30w, 6d, 0l. Invincible!
The cup was retained, only thing of note, that kid that scored 5 in 1 game won top goal scorer, despite playing only 1 game.
The CL, dropped to the Europa via dodgy peno, should have made it into the last 16.
The Europa, after smashing Zenit 1-10agg, handily ran through(in order), Lille(2-4), Udinese(1-4), and Porto(2-7), to face Roberto Mancini's Stuttgart in the final. Thiago Casasola scored a header 3 minutes in for a bore 0-1 win, but feck it, Salzburg's first European trophy!

Apparently now I can afford Ravel, but I'll hold off, if no one else puts a bid in, I could get him on trial in the summer, and he'd possibly accept a cheaper contract, if he does get picked off, no biggie.

Montpellier were relegated, so sold me a 16 year old with bags of potential for 750k.

On to the fourth summer!

EDIT: Just checked and my youth team done ridiculously, winning their treble. In the UEFA Youth CL knocking Arsenal, PSG, Chelsea and Juventus(in the finals) out, and winning a group with Juventus, Beskitas and Benfica.

Really lost the attraction of playing this recently, may try an start a save. Just used most teams

Try a weird save, like one where you can't buy players, there's a pretty neat database with a 100 year long global transfer embargo in place, you can only use youth team players or free agents.

Sergi Samper is excellent in this. He's extremely injury prone, but when he plays he always gets high ratings from a deeper midfield position.

Could you link me to that? Sounds tempting.

World cup fever has got me starting a new game as Brazil, never managed internationally on 2014 before, think I am gonna struggle at this World Cup as no training and a limited amount of friendlies are making it difficult for the team to learn my tactics in time.

World cup group = England, Ghana, Iraq

In November of my first season, as United manager. I edited Moyes, Lumsden and Round out, and brought Phelan, Meulensteen back in as coaches / assistant. Other than that, didn't changed much. Got Gary Neville and Beckham as coaches, but I don't think they will become very good ones.

Transfers are way to easy, PSG just signed Koke for €32M .. I mean really, I might edit that one out, why would Atletico even sell him for that much...

As for United, I am looking to bring back Matsl Moller Daehli, he seems he will be world class, along with Heriquez and Wilson. A bit worried about others, seams that Pearson, Janko and Keane are not top team material. At least I got Luke Shaw and Stefano Denswil at the end of the season.

Anyone has an idea what to do when a team suddenly has a major drop in form? I just lost one match against Everton, at Goodison 3 : 1, but now I lost against Stoke, barely won Anderlecht and barely snatched a point against Swansea. Everton are on the run in the Premiership, played 13, won 13 XD

I think my wonderkid GK is cursed. twice now I have sent him out on loan to a lower premier league club. He plays two games and then gets injured for 3/4 months. Really hoping this second injury doesn't stuff up his long term development.

Feck sake, I swear every time I get an enjoyable game going my save file goes corrupt after a few seasons. :(

Probably doesn't help that my laptop's shite.

Do Coaches improve over time too like players? Or are their stats set in stone.

They can.

IIRC if you get messages that they're struggling on coaching courses they're peaked.
AH right so sending them on courses actually helps them improve their star rating too? I just thought that was for added depth.

I've been making he top 6 every season for the last 4 with my Fulham side. Time to make the step up.

The morale system is weird, I have won the league cup, won my games up to the away leg with Real madrid, lost it 6 nil, everyone is depressed, we beat Ipswich 2-1 and they are even more depressed, what the feck,

4th summer window was fairly quiet, as things go, mostly rejigging contracts. Brought in Djordjevic and two other young strikers, promoted two youths, picked up a top young CB/DM, but returned him on loan to his club.

Kampl, Heinteregger, and Stark go, along with some chumps, replaced from within, got a loan of Hojbjerg and Radosevic, for cover. 16m in, 63 sold. Heh.

I think this is my future, bringing in wonderkids, developing, and trying to keep the strongest 20-25 in the squad to crack at Europe.

Beat Barca 2-0 in the Euro Super Cup, admittedly they probably played a weakish side, but progress! 50 some games unbeaten in the league, it's a little silly, I'm far too overpowered for it, I've been playing mostly the Under 18's in the cup...

So lads, can you give me some tips on how to build an aggressive possession based side. Basically, an attacking game based on possession. I'm too direct for my own good

Control/Ridgid/Retain Possession and a team with a few aggressive roles like Complete Wing Back, or Regista.

Perhaps even Work Ball Into Box.

EDIT: A formation with a packed midfield and two strikers could help.

So three in the middle, or four. So, a 4132, but I have some quality wingers in my side though! But only one or two were my signings and can play in the middle, so I guess its no problem.

That's somewhat like how I'd approach it. Millions of options though. If you want wide players, a pair of inside forwards, overlapping wing backs, and a striker that drops into midfield and supports(F9, DLP, or aggressively a Trequartista, though a Tre will support less).

In my Southampton save its now 2026 and David Moyes (MUFC manager) has won the premier league 8 times in a row and the Champions league 9 times in a row. Greatest manager ever????????

All he needed was more time. Our loss.

I played 4-2-3-1 with all 3 attacking kids in the centre. It's very narrow though. BWM (d) and Deep-lying playmaker (s/d) and, if possible, attacking fullbacks (you need them to provide width here). You can choose roles for your attacking trio as you with, but I preferred to have one shadow striker here (on the other side of the more attacking fb), trequartista and an advanced playmaker.

You need to have great fullbacks (they're crucial), fast CBs (push higher up, of course), it's better if you have a ball-playing one but not really necessary and a great aggressive BWM (he was great for me if you need a cheap option). Then just stick to the fluid+control and let them have it - they will adjust to the scheme (it takes some time of course, because you need them to understand each other movements perfectly) and would play some beautiful posession-based football.

Cheers!

Also does fan reaction have any impact on your job, like in transfers, or is it just like us having a big moan.

I don't feel loved by the Southampton board. Apparently getting them into the top four two times and winning the league cup is not enough for me to earn a new contract. Plus the owner is a stingy bitch! Walsall was poor, but I was loved!

Cheers!

It does, but very little, really. But if fans are unhappy with you it usually indicates a bigger problem.

I've also gone for the transfer embargo game. Will probably start with Ajax.

 What?

He's got sacked within a season every game I've played. AVB got given time and won the title in his third or fourth season though.

I've just finished another season off this morning and United lost the league title to Arsenal on goal difference on the last day of the season.

Guess what though? Moysie has won the fecking champions league again!!

I sold a player, that's all I did. I can never sell a player for the exact amount I'm offering. Its always offers completely lower than it should be and non negotiable.
