Gaming Football Manager 2014

I'm still shocked that they let him go so easily. He had an immense season in Sassuolo as well (21 goals in 38 appearances). How lucky am I here, can not believe it

Well done!

Would be naughty to attempt a new contract for Rzat, with a very low release clause, then instantly sigh him for Betis.

Child must be a genius. :D
 Didn't think of this then but it would have been pretty tough to renew his contract because he had already thrown plenty of tantrums before signing the previous one. He actually submitted a TR because I broke the promise I made to him so I wasn't too hopeful of keeping him for long.

I might try to bring him to Sevilla (Betis rejected me) but he's over 3M which is a bit much for a 27-28 year old tbh. His stats have already gone down a tad since the last season and I fear he will decline soon.

The ones I will bring in with me are the young talent I scouted and made regulars in the previous season. They had great potential and I can't let go of them that easily. :D

So, start of 2015/16 season and this is the United side I've put out against City in the CS

------------Johnstone----------------
Varela - Smalling - Keane - R. Rodriguez
--------------Jones------------------
---------Fellaini - Sergi Roberto
Lucas Moura------------Adnan Januzaj
--------Angelo Henriquez-------------

My star striker is unhappy with not being allowed to go to Chelsea, so much so that he won't talk to me. Have a 72M offer from Dortmund on the table, all up front. Is it worth keeping him around, or should I just cash in? He won't talk to me and really wants to go, so thinking of just cashing in just in case I do keep him and he plays poor for the year and I can only get 50m for him next year.

January came and went for me. Luke Shaw added, a fantastic Russian DM(to replace Hazard at DM), Ward-Prowse for 2m(could have been a free, but why wait for that price?). Bayern came in with a 2om bid for Rodrigo Gomez, talked that up to 26m and replaced him with Agustin Allione for 10m. An absolute upgrade in this save. Set up the transfer of a pair of Brazilian wonder kids for down the line.

Actually quite bored of this, I'd start a full game save I want to do, Bradford City, with a solid defensive/counter tactic, selling players(as they're broke), developing youth(despite mediocre youth system, perhaps I'd find the next Cleverley...), and bringing in youth for the first team, mainly from the UK and especially Ireland and the Irish leagues.

Sadly though, should I attempt that, my borked laptop will explode after about half an hour.

Oops. That's of course 20 years old. :D
Guessed 18 or 19.... :D

How much is the drop off to 2nd choice? Bet you could replace him with better for half the price unless he's some kind of Ronaldo killer.

I found a 19 year old who looks like he'll be class, and got him for 6m too! Think I'll look for a more experienced player that is already good for around 15-20m, and sell my guy for the 72m. Could do with strengthening elsewhere. Means I'll have sold 140m worth of players(3 players) this window, most I've taken in in one window I reckon.

Has the game changed since the updates? Finding it really tough to get any sort of consistency. This is the first time I've played since around Christmas time, and I'm finding it much harder since then. Might just be me trying to overcomplicate it though.

Holidayed till first of Jan and then took over Valencia who were in deep shit. Their players out on loan are comfortably better than the ones we've in our team. Guardado, Rami, Otamendi, Banega would walk into my current team.

Is this years version harder?

Got sacked due to getting my cardiff side all but relegated from the PL.

Lost in the championship playoffs with Fulham in the next season.

And promotion this season will be a close thing.

Am I getting some tactics wrong? (the "push higher" etc type ones)

What are your full tactics? Push higher in itself isn't bad but I'd imagine it's suicide with a weaker team like Cardiff.

I'm in charge of Fulham and with the players I've signed I should be leading the championship really.

I play a 4231 and tend to go for the following tactics:

1. work ball into box
2. push higher up (not always)
3. play at a high tempo
4. Hassle opponents

To be fair, my side has started going on a decent run but it's still quite inconsistent and I'm not getting the most out of some quality attackers.

How fast are your defenders? I'd say if they're slower than 12/13 then a high line isn't advised. Are you getting countered?

How fast are your defenders?
Pretty quick. My main central defender is pacey (acc: 15). Left back is quick too. The other two defenders aren't slow without being necessarily quick.

Maybe it's due to having Barry, Parker, Kasami and Sidwell as my choices for midfield two.

I need to get more out of my attack though. That's my big issue.

In FM, AML/AMR positions are purely offensive, they won't track back too much, which means you pretty much have a 2 man midfield depending on player roles. Pushing higher can actually help in this situation(as you're a top team in the league) as it closes the gap between midfield and defence.

Hassle opponents may be the real problem. That'll make your midfield two close down heavily, pulling your positioning apart, and giving you no defensive solidity.

I'd try dropping the wide players to the middle of the pitch though, it may look more 4-4-1-1, but it'll play more like 4-2-3-1 does in real life, just making the wide men work harder. Or, drop your AMC, and play a DMC, an Anchorman to screen your defence, set one of your CM's to now run into the space left by the missing AMC, and support the attack.

What roles have your mid two currently?

Are your attackers suited to working the ball into the box? Plus, as you say, you're likely getting no penetration from midfield since they're so slow. There are just so many potential factors in FM! :)

I've had success with a 4-3-3, with a DLP/Anchorman, a BWM and a AP in the DM/CM slots, then CWB's combined with orthodox wingers, but it really depends on your team.

That's kind of how I've had the most success, though I play safer with my wide defenders, and only use one winger.

As for the striker, I've tried all sorts, and lately like Trequartista best.
Depending in personnel, my IF may be attack, and Winger suppost, in which case, the Full Backs swap as well, attack behind support, support behind attack always.

Ball winning and Box to Box.

It's strange. I've been playing FM for years but this year it seems little things possibly affect the outcome more, which is great.

I think the passing ability in midfield is the issue. Parker, Sidwell and Barry are not set up for making an attack tick. Kasami is fairly good but he's more an AM. That's the issue I reckon.

Tbh, that's a bad combo, especially with hassle opponents. Both are going to run all over the place at the best of times, never mind when told to press the opponents more.

I'd swap one out for a more solid "keeps play ticking" player or role. Try swapping your ball winner for a CM(d/s) or DLP(d/s).

What role is your AMC?

I won the scudetto in my first season. Balotelli is amazing — he is the best player on the team by a lot and he basically won me the scudetto. 29 goals and 6 assists in 33 matches. We made the semi-finals of the Champions League before being destroyed by Barcelona. Lost in the first round of the Coppa Italia to Sassuolo.

It is crazy how Juventus conceded only 13 goals the entire season. I have never seen that before.

13 goals?
Those lazy feckers should learn to defend.

This is my main formation as well though I use WB instead of FB at the LB slot. And DM instead of Anchorman to allow the DM some movement. I use mainly AF or F9 for the forward slot. None of my strikers have Treq qualities. Creative, but not creative enough to stop me from having them do what they do better.

I change some of the roles depending on quality, my last save doing this had Matic as DM, so Anchor was most suitable due to his lack of pace.

I don't worry about a player having every quality for a role though, amongst the best Trequartistas I've used are Wilfried Bony(earned himself a big money move to Madrid), but most especially Chicharito(leading scorer every season).

Anyone else gone for Lucas Romero at a big club?

Using the January update I've plumped for him and Ward-Prowse as new centre mids for United with Fellaini Carrick and Cleverley too.

Ward-Prowse seems to set up a lot of OGs from what I've noticed but they don't count. Romero hasn't done a lot yet but hopefully I can get the training right to improve them both to maintain a 3.5-4 star rating.

Romero's the go to guy for most saves, generally turns into a beast.

Noticed on the last patch though that depending which country your managing in, GG Romero fails a fair few work permit applications.

Just smashed Valencia 3 - 0 in the away leg of my Europa League last 16 match.

I tried converting Matic to a CM before but always found him to be a bit shit.

Depends on your squad, and offered role too. I had a winger failing work permits, sold one of my current wingers, and the guy passed without trouble.

Oh yeah, he'd be shit at CM(which is probably why Chelsea always list him), but he's an Anchorman almost beyond compare.

I've just had to set the team out 4-6-0 against PSG in the Europa as all three of my strikers are injured. De Bruyne is playing as a false nine.

Missed out on World Cup football with Ireland. Brought it to the last day, but lost away to German-ish.

Sweden got in over me on goal difference, as they, Ireland, and Austria all finished on 17 points.

May I never have to select shitc**ts like McGeady and Houlihan in FM again. Surprisingly, I brought in some young Championship lads and they outperformed the big names consistently. Except Coleman, who was consistently stellar, and had an equalizer against Germany(who won 1-0), chalked off for offside despite running from deep and blasting it past 3 defenders from 30 yards out.

Thinking of picking up the game after finals are done(I've one more on the 26th), can I buy it online, or where's the best place to buy it?
Any tips about what team to start off with etc would be cool too.

Steam is probably the handiest place to pick it up.....

Have you played any FM before? If not, start with Man Utd, they're incredibly strong, have lots of money, and you'll already know the squad very well, so they'll be handy to get to grips with the game. It's basically easy mode, tbh.

If you have, of course it becomes all about what kind of challenge you want, or story to tell...
