Gaming Football Manager 2010

He won't flop but he's probably the best value-for-money midfielder you can get.

The alternatives are the likes of Daniele De Rossi or Miguel Veloso who are more expensive but better. But Rodwell will keep that spot warm for longer and you should be able to sell him for more than £15m later if the need be.

At least in my experience.

Has anyone signed Rodwell before? Everton want £15 million for him, which if I paid would be very much against my usual signings (i.e Wenger style cheap bargains), just not sure if he's worth it. Anyone had him before, how did he do?

Cheers.

i tried him once as united and he flopped - sold him on (for a minor profit) a few years later.

I just bought him in 2013 for United, for 18.5 million, from Real Madrid (he couldn't get a game behind their stupendously bloated Galactico squad).

I think he's going to play as a DM/MC for me as I normally play with 3 in the middle, often with one playing behind the other two (that would be Rodwell, as Hargreaves and Fletcher are both getting old).

if you want good defensive midfielder buy Annan. a beast at 3m quid. thats value for money.

I hate this game. My Parma team were 9 points clear after 30 games...and I somehow managed to finish 5th.

Fabian Delph, Jack Rodwell and Gojko Kacar in a midfield three is feckin amazing. I recommend all of them.

Delph cost 9m and got Kacar on a free

I really wanted Kacar, but they wanted £17 million for him. Far to much for my budget.

Managed to negotiate quite a good deal for Rodwell though...£7.5 mil upfront, with it possibly rising to £16 mil depending on clauses being activated (appearences, goals etc).

Edit: Kinell, now on course to win the League with Birmingham, top at Christmas, its crazy!

I got Kacar on a free at the end of my 2nd season.

His natural fitness is poor (7) but I have enough midfielders to rotate.

Rodwell
Kacar
Cahill
Arteta
Delph
Nasri
Mati Fernandez
Acosta
Vela

Wahey I have just wont the league by one point with Parma. Crackin end to the season, 4 points clear with 4 games left I managed to spaz it up completely by drawing 0-0 with 18th place Bari cutting my lead to 2 points (2nd place Roma only managed a draw as well, causing 3rd place Genoa to leap frog them), with my last two games being against Catania and Lazio. Both at home, which you might expect me to win except Catania have beaten me 14 times in 18 games, and Lazio were flying high in 4th. Scraped a 1-0 against Catania, meaning a draw against Lazio would guarantee me the title.

Got off to a good start when my star midfielder scored inside 10minutes. then proceeded to dominate for most of the game. It looked to be going well until the 82nd minute when ex-Parma favourite McDonald Mariga scored a 25 yard volley from a cleared corner. Queue lots of swearing and me watching the remaining 10minutes of the game through spread fingers as Lazio bombarded my goal. Never has a final whistle been such a relief in an FM game.

Was a strange season with ourselves and Genoa dominating the League for 2/3rds of the season, before almost blowing it completely near the end, dropping points all over the place. My star striker, who at one point had 23 league goals in 21 league games fell of the rails and finished the season scoring a measly 26 league goals in 36 appearances. The feckin gimp.

Got to feel sorry for Genoa mind, they lost 1-0 in the 88th minute to Roma in the Italian Cup final, have just lost out on the title by 1 point (they had a better GD than me, so would have won if points were even), and as I type this have just lost the Champions League final on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Madrid.

Strange with French players going on to become awesome coaches and managers. Seems every week I see a retired Frenchman getting a plush job somewhere. Like Wiltord just pipped Trezeguet to the French national team, Vieira was managing Bordeaux, is now at Palermo whilst Giuly just got the assistant managers job at Liverpool. The likes of Saha, Silvestre, Henry, Cheyrou, Dalmat, Dacourt, Dabo, Rothen are just coaches at the moment (At top division clubs) but they all have pretty awesome stats.

Ive got Rodwell in my squad. Qm into 2010/11 season and he id developing into a fantastic player. Can play as a DM and CB. He gets plenty of games and his versatility means I can add more attacking options on my subs bench. BAsicallt I choose JOS and Rodwell as subs and that covers all 5 positions of the subs bench for me. Best buy and look forward to next season when hargreaves contract runs out (i have let him go on a bosman) and so Rodwell will be a key part of my 1st xi.

I also bight Ageuro and Gourgouff and with them have plenty of balance of options for every type of game. Rooney and Ageuro have both scored 20+ goals each and I still have 8 games in the league to go. On for the quad this season!

Have 10m in the kitty and am looking for another great young buy. Any rocos from anybody?

I'm getting a bit fed up of my Man Utd game now, it's gotten too easy.

So, anyone got any suggestions for half decent teams with decent budgets who would be good to try get to the top in 3 to 4 years? I picked Fiorentina last year and I've been considering doing the same this year, but they already have a very good squad so I wouldn't mind a slightly worse team.

Birmingham.

Just did a Pep Guardiola with Barcelona. That is, won every trophy in my first season. My under 19 team is incredible. Signed a lot of youngsters for them - played 30, won 30. 101 goals for, 6 against :wenger:

Right , I'm Nottingham Forest - i recommend them to people who want a club of lower stature but also a club that you can take to premiership in your first season. I picked them because they are a big challenge . They won Champions League twice , in 79 and 80 i think , so basically i want to make it 3rd .

In my first season i managed to get into premiership , i signed some good players like Caicedo and Hart . Unfortunately i was relegated . in my 3rd season i managed to get back to premiership , i signed rakitic and some young gems who i believe will help me to stay up.

Cracking game.

finally decided to buy football manager for the first time about 16 games in only lost one game and drawn 3 (1-2 against burnley at home) my team for most games:

...............................VDS
...........srna(beast but ineligble for CL)..........ferdinand.........vidic........evra
nani(beast for me)................hargreaves(came back in three weeks!!).....riquelme.....jovetic
.............................rooney........................dzeko

in my first transfer window went crazy and bought dzeko srna jovetic riquelme moses(on loan) beckford(on loan) defour
i'm first with 37 points but a GD of 21
and man city are title contenders with 37 points and a GD of 16

when i play about 3 seasons im gonna start again as aldershot or a team in that vein, does anyone know really really cheap gems??

With recent Footie Managers has anyone ever had a player do something really daft and get a long suspension? I remember back in CM 01/02 I had a player push a referee over and get a 6 month ban or something, wondering if this is still a possibility in the later games?

Anthony Annan!

You can get him for 2.5m, over 4 years. And that was my recommendation you bastard!

I actually found he's even better as a CB (stopper or cover would do). Here's his stats at the beginning of this third season with my Palermo side. His only problem is he seems to get a ridiculous amount of Yellow cards... Anyway, I say get on him you guys:

Who'd you sign? Regens?

I love him more!

I've played him at CB several times simply because I thought his stats were near perfect for a CB (both stopper and cover), and he hasn't had a rating lower than 7. What's more is he doesn't seem to cop any cards playing their either, which I thought would be his biggest risk because he dives into tackles.

I paired him up with Kjaer or Bovo each time he played there, and both of them are good in the air (Annan's excellent in the air too, BTW), so the height issue didn't seem to have any effect. In fact I'm training him to become a CB so I can use him from the next season onward.

Righty, started a new game with Birmingham. With my £10m transfer budget I bought Otamendi (£3.5m), Annan (£2.6m), Batuhan (£6m) and Belletti (£800k). I sold off a few nobodies for around £4m.

First 3 matches I bet Sunderland and West Ham, and Drew with Everton away from home. Must say it's good so far, much more enjoyable than my latter seasons with Utd.

Got 2 yellows in his first fecking game for me

Alaba has worked out quite well for me, in 13 (5) appearences he has 2 goals and 4 assists but a match rating of 7.31, he's been fantastic.

Well, what a dramatic season. With about 10 games left my Birmingham team where 5/6 points clear at the top, but just as the finish line was approaching I imploded, 1 win in 5, a 4-1 loss to relagated Burnley, while at the same time City were getting result after result. The upshot of it was as City went into there penultimate game (against United), the table looked like this...

Man City Played 36 Points 75
Birmingham Played 37 Points 74

So a win would have given them the title. But, United stood firm and won 1-0 :D. So going into the last game, its still all to play for...

Played for the first time in ages today.

I'm at the start of 10/11 with my Southampton team, having been promoted to the Championship. I've fecked off half of the squad, and kept basically the key played. I've brought some good players in on loan - Dervite from Spurs (a good centreback for this level), Gaizka Toquero (a striker on loan from Bilbao, quite proud of getting his signature), Parnaby and Johnson from Brum (CM and RB), and one of Everton's young RWs (the name slips me at the moment). I've played three games of 10/11 so far, a 0-0 draw against Preston in the first game of the season, a 9-0 trashing of Dag and Red in the League Cup, and a 1-1 draw at Swansea.

I'm looking to add a good keeper and left back, and I've got about 1.5 million left in transfer money, and I think one spot left open for loans in (the max is 6 isn't it?). Any ideas?

Kasper Schmeichel/Peter Enckelmann (sp? He's Finnish)

And try Fábio on loan for an LB. Or is that not possible?

6 on loan from any one team, 8 short-term loans in total, 2 long-term I think.

How does it define long term loan? Because I've got all of the above listed on loan til the end of the season (it's August)

Good calls - I hadn't thought of those two, I only set the filter to search for transfer listed keepers or keepers for loan from the top flight.

I've done a bit of Fergie in my Everton game regarding retiring players. I kept them all on as coaches and they are now managing in the Premier League.

Phil Neville - Hull
Riquelme - Stoke
Cahill - Middlesbrough
Jagielka - Wolves

and Yobo is now being courted by Sheffield United despite never expressing a desire to go into managment.

Every press conference has turned into a big love in between myself and my former players and I reckon other managers aren't taking kindly to it

Good job Rafa got sacked early on as he'd be going into paranoia overdrive

I think long-term loans are anything over 6 months, i.e. end-of-season.
