Gaming Football Manager 2009

What's with the shitty tactics system this year!? I can only seem to get players to make runs directly forwards or backwards... no bending runs, cross overs from the wings or playing the support striker role!! My FM08 United based 4-3-3 tactic is no more

Saying that overall the game is shitty, there is no need for the 3D match engine, gets tiresome at HT in your first ever match!! As people have mentioned the database isn't up to scratch... might get the game but certainly won't be paying for it!! :boring:

ok ive got rid of the 3d and now its classic footie man

addictive and with a shed load of bugs

I'm complaining in SIGAMES forums about some of our players stats. Join me.

Carrick is clearly underrated, I mean he was a stand out performer for Man United last year and arguably the PL's best midfielder for the second part of the season and is still regarded as a utility player by my scout (Bettega, best in the game). And the thing is when everybody's fit, he's the first choice at United. His positionning, anticipation, composure must be better than that, the number of interception he makes is sometimes unreal, and he's really United's most underrated player in the game by far. Vital for Utd's back to back domestic titles and the latest CL triumph.

Secondly Fabio da Silva's stats have clearly not been updated since last year. Rafael's acceleration and pace stats are 17, 18, how come his brother who is as fit as him has 13, 14 ?

And finally have Possebon's stats been updated since last year ?

I'd also like to add as others pointed, that Ronaldo once again proved against Hull that he had one of the best heading and jumping ability in the game, 14 and 16 are just too low.

fecking hell I see the injury bug still hasn't been fixed, I have 10 players out from 2 weeks to 6 months!

Edit: It's 12 now

I presume I'm better off not buying this game until a proper patch comes out in the new year fixing all these bugs. I don't understanding why they haven't had people playing this game to ensure there were no bugs.

I heard the new patch will be out on the day of the release. If not last year it came out after a week or two.

It's amazing that they say they've tested this thoroughly but yet haven't spotted how ridiculously frequent these injuries are.

Just reading through some of the stat suggestiong on the SI forums. System's pretty useless as to increase Ronaldo's headering stat, others stats must be reduced or else his CA will be exceeded.

The Premiership players seem quite underrated compared to the likes of Italy/Spain. Lesser known Prem players on a global scale who have potential IRL don't seem that recognised, whereas those in Italy/Spain are pretty much top notch.

Also reading through, it stated that some PPM's like 'dictates tempo' and 'cuts in' are a load of bullocks and have just been a gimmick in previous games. They still haven't got the coding right for them so have been omitted from this years edition. It's a shame for the new training feature which seemed quite promising in which you can teach players PPM's. Is this actually in the game cos' I don't know where to access this?

After the first game of the season I have 14 first team players on my injury list. Even the reserves I've called up to replace them are now all getting injured.

And Manucho scores wonder goals, all the time. I've already had a few 30 yard scorchers and a couple 25 odd yard lobs.

Seems fair.

The Spanish and Italian players are massively overrated, rather than the English ones underrated - the English research teams are probably the best. Barzagli's was probably by far the best centre-back in the world in Football Manager 2008, and had near-perfect personality traits, Silva's massively inflated, Matías Fernández is so overrated it's not funny, Pato's overrated, Balotelli's inflated, Giovinco's far too good, and so on.

The Manchester United researcher's been fair and doesn't jump to conclusions, and tries to balance things well.

I'm guessing somebody's unhappy with the demo:

Rosicky is always injured in fairness, and Eduardo has the broken ankle

He has 11 players injured or something.

I've also seen a screenshot of an Inter game against Roma, which finished 1-0 with 8 (!) minutes of extra time. Good thing, though, as there were 4 serious injuries and 3 knocks to the Inter players!

There's quite a lot of harakiri going on in the Sports Interactive forums, and the only ones I've seen happy are the tactical gurus who know the game inside-out. However, the Windows userbase isn't have its general users as the ones who run the expensive servers.

I'm waiting for the patches and stuff to come out. 9.0.1 or 9.0.2, please.

I count 5 with 'serious' injuries, and 3 which are probably back within days. The rest are just out on international duties. I wouldn't say five injuries and three knocks is completely outrageous. The point is still correct though, the demo has a problem with injuries.

If you look at Carrick he's shit by his standards.

I think he's alright, but I think Fletcher's value is higher in the game? Bizarre, although I suspect it's down to his low reputation to prevent him from being considered for England, as Capello constantly overlooks him.

I do think Carrick's underrated in the game, but I don't have the demo so I can't judge.

Despite the higher valuation, Fletcher's stats are pretty poor. Certainly doesn't reflect what a good squad player he is.

Anyone who wants to see an overrated player needs to see Angelo Palumbo...

Just seen him. Has pretty much everything you'd want in a central midfielder.

It really is awful, as he's pretty much rated as the best holding midfielder in the game. Which is no way a reflection of real life.

Doubt he even gets in the Italian National team.

The first patch last year didn't even fix all the bugs, did it? I think it's astounding that there can be so many bugs. Surely they can find people who will test the game at length!

I think last years patch at least fixed most of the main problems. I remember a big issue last year was the closing down bug where players would just stand off the opposition irrespective of your tactics and I think that was fixed on the patch.

Really is frustrating, has made the demo virtually unplayable.

It fixed almost all the big bugs, but it introduced at least one huge one as well, as I recall.

Nah, not really.

8.0.2 is infinitely better than 8.0.0 and much better than 8.0.1. The whole of Football Manager 2008 does have a serious "bug", however: Few newgens come through with decent physical attributes. A quick challenge for all of you with games in the 2010s: Find me some decent newgens with jumping over 16. You'll be shocked to see how few there are.

I was talking about 8.0.1. 8.0.2 fixed almost everything.

I just got the game, and I'm going to list some of the potentials of our players. If you don't want to know, STOP READING ASAP.

Anderson 158/-10
Davide Petrucci 78/-9
Fabio 89/-9 (but his stats will probably mean he's not usable anyway)
Welbeck 103/-9
Jonny Evans 137/-9

Macheda, Brandy, Cathcart, Drinkwater, Brady, Woods, Hewson, James, Possebon, Rafael, Amos and King are -8, which means they have a very slim chance of getting 160 in potential, which would be very good Premier League quality, but probably only squad players at United.

Possebon and Rafael have already been explained by the United researcher (one of the best researchers IMO) in that he rated them over the summer. They are definitely going to be improved for the next data update, though that probably won't be out until the January transfer window is over. Personally, I'm going to change some of Rafael's stats, as well as putting both him and Possebon in the -9 bracket (150-180). I normally don't like messing with the database, so I'm going to have to be careful not to make them too good :p

(Put Possebon at 125/-9 and Rafael at 135/-9, as well as improving some of Rafaels stats a few points.).

135/-9 makes him on par with the likes of Gareth Bale, Federico Fazio, Lukas Podolski, Oscar Ustari and Antonio Valencia. :-/ That's way too good.

Podolski is 149, Fazio is 148, Bale 140, Valencia 146 and Ustari is 135. The only two comparable here are Bale and Ustari. Ustari is a goalkeeper, and I don't think Rafael is much worse than Bale. I know who I'd much rather have, anyway.

Bale has a couple of Football League experience up his belt already. Rafael Da Silva's still a whippersnapper when push comes to shove. Bale's rotation player for Spurs - Rafael Da Silva's going to go to the bench when Brown's fit again.

135/-9 for an 18-year-old puts him easily amongst the best 18-year-olds in the world which is simply untrue. I think Dos Santos was a 140/-10 in Football Manager 2008 at the age of 18 - there's no way Rafael Da Silva's nearly as good as him... Yet.
