Gaming Football Manager 2009

I'll play in an online league; just been playing one with my brother and it's all good fun.

Getting people to show their arses is the tough part, people tend to sign up then never show.

Yeah, this is why I probably wouldn't play if there were a lot of people involved. If if was just a handful it would be cool to give it a go though

Well, I don't like to boast but I did win La Liga with Racing Santander and break the Real Madrid/Barcelona hold on the league. Not to mention a Spanish cup and a Champions League trophy to my name. If you ignore my so far unsuccessful stint with Sparta, my FM managerial credentials are spotless

The first one was a brilliant success. The most recent one wasn't.

I seem to remember there being a glitch where I would lose my game but in the results screen it gave me a win or something, hopefully thats fixed and i'd be up for giving it another bash.

I was top of the Spanish League with Atletico before the La Liga one died. Though that was partly because Aguero is a beast.

I think the problem with the last one was we had too many people who couldn't be arsed to play and the game had only been released a few days before we started a network game so people weren't used to the new FM. If we get a few people together who will be up for playing it nearly every night it should be a success. I'm free most nights

Is that what League you usually play online in? Because I haven't played an FM with a Premier League team since about CM 04/05 I think. I hate being United because it's too easy, and I hate playing United because I don't like the thought of taking points off them! Not that it matters, Arsenal always win the league anyway

We usually do Prem and nobody is allowed to be a top 4 team.

I liked the La Liga one, though I remember I had to leave half way through it to go on Holiday.

Solius conveniently picked himself the best side though. From his size 4 shoe.

What do you guys think - this or that free CM 01/02 version that's floating around?

CM3 has a huge nostalgia value attached to it, but in all honesty, FM09 is the better game. It's quite different, though. Quite a lot harder. If I wanted to quickly play through a few seasons and just have a bit of fun, I'd play CM3. But if I want a good challenge I'd play FM09.

What's the latest download patch for this then?

Apparently, I have 111 posts (112 as of this) in this thread, despite not having the game.

Should I get it? Or is the DRM not worth it?

No, I'm not going to obtain this illegally. SI is a company worth supporting (unless they feck up FM 2010, which is still on the cards).

So I started over, played a season in 2 days, and went in muppet mode.

I decided instead of following the Fergie philosophy, I decided to make this team my own.

I play in a 4-3-3 formation, much like the Chelsea default with a striker who comes back in the AMC position, 2 attacking wingers, with one going back and one going forward, 2 MC's, 1 DM (Or, in attacking formations, one in the AMC position, and 2 MC) and the traditional 4 back.

Before the season started I exhausted my transfer funs on some good young players to grow... I also signed Carlos Tevez to the BARE minimum contract deal for a January sale.

In my first year I Won the CL over Liverpool, lost the FA Cup final to Liverpool and finished third in the league, not bad for an entirely different system.

Then I went on a buy/sale... here's the lost of my business so far:

2008/09

In:

Henri Saivet (5.25m) - Developing to be an important part on the wing.
John Bostock (2.5m) - Signed to be a squad player/Big sale one day in the future.

Out:

Tomasz Kuszczak (1.5m) - January, no spot, Amos played better in the reserves
Darron Gibson (4.5m) - Good first half of the season upped his price tag, recieving an additional 2.5 over 48 months.
Carlos Tevez (20m) - Signed to the smallest deal I could get him for the shopped him... Inter paid the most and accepted plus a 20% of next sale

2009/10

In:

Rodney Snjeider (80K) - Ajax 18-year-old youth player who seems to be under-rated by Ajax, four of my scouts rated him 6 Stars and one 5.
Vaclac Kadlec (400K) - Slava Prague 17-year-old striker who already had great finishing/passing/composure numbers.
Vincenzo Fiorillo (1.7m) - Sampdoria 18-year-old wonderkid keeper who I plan on developing and selling down the road
Franco Zuculini (10m) - Over-paid but with the intention of Hargreaves or Carrick being sold in the near future... 20 years old and rated higher than both, Racing had plenty of interest after information of my interest leaked.
Jack Rodwell (5.5m) - Vidic interest has reached 35 million, so I needed to sign a good young player to compliment Evans in a few seasons... on loan ats Hearts at the moment
Sergio Aguero (44.5m MRC) - Tried to bargain for cheaper, to no avail with Athletico asking for almost 50... scored 29 goals for them the season before and with the sale(s) you'll see soon, I need him in my system
Igor Akinfeev (25m) - As some of you know, I rate the lad highly and he's never dissapointed in a FM game... going to take a risk with this one because I haven't heard much on him in this version.
Georginio Wijnaldum (8.5m) - Feyenoord winger had me as one of his favored personnel (???)... nicked him for MUCH cheaper than most teams wanted.
Luis Fernandes (3.2m) - This one looks like the first TRUE wonderkid i've ever gotten in this game... at 15 he was rated as a "great asset" by all my scouts, he was just generated in the Sporting system and it was luck of the draw I even stumbled across this lad... the "Approach to sign" came to about 4 Million so by transfer laws and such I saved a bit... at the risk of losing a chunk of change if he's ever sold... he will be a first team regular already, with great attributes, and he plays well with Anderson.
Jamie Foster (1.5m) - Doncaster generated keeper got 5 stars from 2 scouts and 4 from another, only 16 and will be a back-up/future seller with no strings attached.

Out:

Craig Cathcart (3.4m) - Fulham looked hard for a defender from me and this was the most I could get out of it.
Frazier Campbell (4m) - Originally accepted as high at 7 million but Sunderland offered 4 and a 25% profit
Dimitar Berbatov (30.5m) - Barca enquired about him and Rooney, issued the latter hands off and put Berbatov at 30.5 with a 15% and 20 goals paying me another 2 million (What he was bought for) and they sent it back acceptable.
Rodrigo Possebon (3.1m) - Bolton wanted him on loan, I then offered him for transfer and they accepted
Cristiano Ronaldo (80m) - Aaaah Madrid... re-signed him to a contract extension with a 80 million release clause, Madrid sparked it, adios Ronaldo.
Manucho (4.6m) - Hull...
Park Ji-Sung (4.3m) - Fiorentina had been hastling all year so i budged.
Wes Brown (6.75m) - Didn't want to, but did... Villa is in the CL so it's not much a step down for him.
Danny Simpson (2.6m) - Good riddance
Ben Foster (3.6m) - CSKA needed a keeper in wake of me stealing Akinfeev from them.
Zoran Tosic (25m) - Sweet shit on a brick this was the one that shocked me... they enquired, not wanting to sell Tosic I put 15 million up, and they agreed and made an offer... i rejected and upped the "Offer to clubs" to 25 Million and wouldn't you know, Roma made a bid... i didn't want to play with fire and accepted the offer... shocking, their scouts must rate him VERY highly.

Sooo much talent gone but alot gained, hopefully in the long-run i'm fulfilled by this game and by the swuad i've started to build.

I bought Kadlec, he rotted in my reserves, Zuculini turned out to be very disappointing for me, I sold Berbatov for 3mil to Bayern in 2010...he depreciates massively. Akinfeev has been my best signing probably, though Aguero has got 45+ goals a season for me for the last 5 seasons!

Aguero is insane in the game. Surprised to see so many sell Tevez, he bags me 30 a season usually. Him and Aguero are a mental combination, especially with Rooney and Ronaldo on the wings behind them.

He's got 175 potential ability, which is very good. Wayne Rooney has 175 current ability at the start of the game. Vidic, Berbatov, Tevez, Evra, Scholes, etc, etc all have less than that. He can be very, very good. Of course, if you've got a lot of even better prospects, good on you (though if you don't use a cheat tool it's very hard to see the difference between 175 and 199 potential ability just from scouts and coaches).

That said, 25m is a lot.

I've had a bit of an FM break for a while now, after notching up quite a few seasons and 21 played days on my "do whatever I want" game (where I just won the double in Italy with Roma). I don't think I'll be arsed to continue that game right now, so maybe I'll just start up another United-game. I've got a few great tactics that I've made and tweaked over the course of my whole last game.

Hopefully I have a different bit of a result with those two, Ziculini especially, I have hopes for him

Great success with this:

Rooney
Aguero---Saivet/Wijnaldum
Fernandes Anderson
Carrick/Hargreaves
Evra Vidic Evans Rafael
Akinfeev

Winning by 2 or 3 goals in 11 games on the run now, only exception being a strange 1-1 draw with West Brom, where I played Welbeck up top and O'Shea at RB

You play Rooney ahead of Aguero?

Aguero up top is basically unstoppable, I'd swap em around. Aguero nets me 40 goals every season. Rooney gets quite a lot of assists but doesn't have the goal scoring skills of Aguero

When Saivet plays, all three hold a free role and they inter-change beautifully... Andersons influence in CM is also in an attacking capacity so if Aguero cheats to the middle and Rooney doesn't cover, he makes runs forward often and his crossing is up to a 15 now, which isn't bad for a CM.

Aguero has 5 goals in 6 matches from a perdominant wing position so I get no complaints, considering Rooney has 9 in 8.

Saivet has been a great balancer because he does a great job in a reserved position to help defend, I often have him marking whoever the opponents LB is so he's forced to track back against teams who push their fullbacks forward... if teams don't, then he will cheat up from time to time to be open.

It looks like Real aren't just paying stupid fees in real life. It happens in here too!

Look at how much they payed for Trezeguet:
