Gaming Football Manager 2009

I'm in my second season on this new FM. First season I managed Osasuna got them into 10th position. Then quite surprisingly I got offered the Fiorentina job which I took. I got a decent budget of 26m as well. Managed to sign Van der Vaart, Adriano, Rafinha, Barzagli and Fellaini. I'm now just 2 points off the top of the table in Serie A after 12 games.

Thing is I actually tried giving Arsenal a bit of a leg up. Made sure they signed some quality defenders and a central midfielder, and also gave 5 or 6 of their youngsters 199 potential.

I tried improving the Dippers, Everton and Chelsea the same way but only Everton really perform. Think maybe I have to go in and make Rafa and Ancelotti better managers.

Chelsea and Pool are rubbish in my game, both have excellent players but neither seem to be able to challenge really, Arsenal and City have been my only ever challengers. and City usually cop out mid way through the season. The hilarious thing with City is that they'll buy a player like Gareth barry for 30m at the start of a season and then someone like Everton or Portsmouth ends up buying him for 5m at the end of the season cause he hasn't played any games for them. Strange stuff indeed.

HUGE comebvack over Liverpool, played a 4-3-3 and was down 3-0 after 15 minutes, they changed into their 4-5-1 so I pounced with a 4-2-4 and got 2 quick ones before half.

I then reverted back to the 4-2-3-1 with Hargo and Carrick holding, Anderson in front, and Villa free role, potted 2 quick ones and stayed steady,. moving to a move defensive tactic and laughed all the way top a HUGE victory before Christmas.

I built a galatico team (with United)

I enquired about City's midfielder Klaas Zungu (im using united, August 2017) and they said they wanted £198,000,000 for him

How is everyone getting Balotelli for so cheap?

Bargain with them, I had to reload a few times, if the transfer goes public then City and the likes will start matching the 20m Inter ask for. I managed to get them down to around 12m by going slightly lower time and time again. It also helps to add clauses, like percentage of next sale (even 10% helps) and a really really high buy back clause (mine was 90m).

I just sold Ronaldo on mine to Real Madrid for, wait for it... eighty million

That's the release clause I re-signed him for... shockingly when I re-structured his deal, he accepted a smaller signing bonus

Ill, might be too late for me but i'll give it a go.

The consensus is Saivet isn't as good this year but him and Ljalic have been awesome in backing-up Ronaldo & Rooney... hell, I think once Ronaldo goes i'm using one of these lads as a starter

I've been giving FM 2007 a run for the last few days, it's slightly amazing how much more fun it is, I'd suggest anyone to try it again.

I started a game with City (Don't judge me) to indulge my inner-muppet. I think I've done quite well.

Came 2nd in my first Season and won the Premier League in the second. I reached the Final of the FA Cup but United beat me 2 - 1. Inter knocked me out of Europe in the Semi Finals.

My team is now this:

Was winning the Prem a good achievement or is it piss easy to do with all the money? I made myself not cheat this time round as well, sometimes in old games I'd take control of another team to unsettle a player so he'd join me. Or if I lost a game against a relegation team despite me having a great team out I used to reload and play it again. This time theres been none of that. All the players were bought legit, albeit some for ridiculous prices.

Also I seem to draw Arsenal in every single competition and it's pissing me off.

Not that easy with City, cause you basically rebuild their squad and it generally takes 2 seasons for players to fully gel into a squad, so if half your team are new then it can be difficult.

It's a bit easier with Utd probably, because they've already got a top squad, the only player I bought in my 1st season was Pogrebrynak as a backup striker. Generally I only being in 1 or 2 players a season, cause it takes a while for them to get going, especially if they don't speak English.

I'm just wondering if anyone is as sad as I am and keeps a (rough) tally of how many current wonderkids they have had at their club, at one time? Not former wonderkids, as there would likely be many, but players that are all wonderkids at one point in time.

My previous record was seven, on FM 2007. Believe it or not, but I currently have 19 wonderkids, either in my first team squad, in the reserves, or out on loan!

A player has to have a CA of roughly 150, though that number is certainly not exact. For instance, I have wonderkids that are 140-odd, and players that aren't classed as wonderkids, yet, that are 150-odd, but the rule is, in my experience, generally true. A player also has to be under-21, as well.

On another note, if you arrange lots of friendlies during the season for your reserves, and possibly U18's, and particularly if you have a large reserve team squad, this might be worth doing. I created a bookmark folder entitled, "Friendly Clubs", and looked through all of the clubs in leagues that I don't have running (I have England, Scotland, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Holland, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico, as full leagues) and bookmarked them. I also included an abbreviation of the name of the country that they reside in, so that the clubs from the same country are all listed together, alphabetically.

Then, when you attempt to arrange a friendly, do it in the normal way, by choosing a date and selecting "Choose Club", then select "Choose Other". Rather than searching through clubs, looking for one with lots of real players, you can simply click on the bookmark tab and select the option that contains all of the clubs that have real players. It makes the job much, much easier, believe me.

I have so many youngsters in my reserve team, so I usually arrange a friendly every third day (so two days in between), or sometimes even every second day (one day in between). There is often only one or two games per month in the English reverse leagues, so I tend to play far more friendlies than league matches.

Bloody hell. Way too much effort for my liking that Joga :)

I have barely played this version of footy manager, the first one in years that hasnt gripped me.

I really don't see the point of playing like that though, i get no sense of achievement from things like that what so ever. Basically you were guaranteed to win against the lesser clubs even though in real life there are plenty shock wins and plenty draws too.

I used the genie scout in one game too and i got no satisfaction from that either.

Yeah I know it's shit. I realized it's probably the reason why I get two Seasons in then get bored all the time. Much more satisfying without cheating.

... 2, with Triestina (FM 2008).

I don't think I've ever played a game as much as this since CM 01/02. The downside is that because I'm playing it so much I notice all the slight errors, like why I draw Arsenal every season at some stage of the champions league(unless I get fecked out)

Aint that the truth. I haven't done that sort of stuff for FM in quite a while. It was the same with CM 97/98. When I found out what the 'quit instantly' key was, *, it was too easy to cheat. My best game ever is still the United game I did on CM2, where I won the Premier League often (but not always!), and the closest I came to the Champions League was a loss to Juventus in the second half of extra time in the Final.

+1,
CM01/02 was my first love and I've yet to get off FM2007
(have tried the new ones briefly but quickly reverted back to the legendary 2007)

Currently in year 2018. Playing with Havant & Waterlooville. Have taken them all the way up from the Conference South to the Championship.

Also in charge of the Nigerian national team. Won the African Cup of Nations back in 2016 and finished runners up in the Confed Cup a year later.

Cocking game. For my Sparta Rotterdam team (that's right, I couldn't resist being in charge of a team called Sparta simply so I could say the words 'This is SPARTA!!! when you get to introduce yourself to the media. See Screenshot for example) I have sold about 8 players and signed one. And my one signing, the player who I had pinned most of my hopes on, goes and gets injured in the last friendly before the season starts. How the cock can someone be out for 8 weeks with a twisted cocking ankle??? Argh.

This is Sparta.

Feck my first game of the season and I lost 1-0 away to AZ in the 88th minute. That's annoying.

Smashed you gimp. You do know your name appears on that screenshot?

Yeah but it's not my real name, I rarely use my real name because I don't like using my dads surname. It's why I din't bother scribbling it out.

Someone recommend me a reasonably good and incredibly cheap striker who won't demand wages above about a fiver a week. Sparta don't actually have any strikers to start with, apparently they don't need any. Just being called Sparta is seemingly enough for their fans. Which is understandable I guess.

Also Floribert N'galulalulalula plays for Sparta, and he's feckin useless.

Daniel Aquino. He's only 18 years old, and I have no idea if the circumstances — price, potential, etc — will be the same, but he had a release fee of £300k on my game, which isn't bad, considering that Man City paid me £20m for him within a year and a half.

Also, there are a number of good players that are free agents when the game starts. Sebastian Abreu is a 28 year old Uruguayan international striker, and he'd definitely do quite well at a club like Sparta. If you want to know all of the good free agents, there are various sites that have that information, but here are a few:

Eduardo Costa, Steven Appiah (he is injured, so you will have to wait), Landon Donovan (is available on a free transfer, but won't arrive until Dec).

On my game with United in 2017, Aguero has just overtaken Bobby Charlton as all time league goal scorer for United. He needed 3 goals on the last day of the season and got a storming hat-trick :)

I have him too, but Tevez nets more than him for me. He gets me 30-35 a season usually, he got me 39 one season! Saying that, Aguero gets about 20-30 a season too!

Injuries are still ridiculous on this. I'm probably averaging two injuries a game, and I mean like 4 - 5 week ones. All my substitutions are forced upon me because my players are made of glass.

I'm expecting a screen to just pop up and go 'All your players are dead'.

4 games on the trot I've gone 3 - 0 up and had the other team bring it back to 3 - 3 with all 3 of their goals coming in the space of about 20 minutes.

Fixed as hell.

Yeah they're bad, but not as bad as before if you've got the 9.3.0 patch. Generally you'll get more injuries earlier in the season because players won't be as fit yet. I usually make my training schedules less intense (only half) until November/December and then increase them to just below Intensive. This seems to help with injuries.

Also, if you are getting lots of injuries, make sure not to tackle hard, because that often causes them, especially for defensive players.

We are going to start a new online league.

Unfortunately you can't play because you cheated in the last one.

I would probably be up for that, they have one going in the newbies and it seems a laugh

I'll play in an online league; just been playing one with my brother and it's all good fun.

Getting people to show their arses is the tough part, people tend to sign up then never show.
