Gaming Football Manager 2009

This is getting ridiculous. My captain just got another red card, this time for hacking Rooney down with two feet. Incidentally, the last red card he got was also against United, in the league. This is the 4th red card he's gotten this season. In his 10th game. He also has 7 yellow cards. Let me recap:

See if you can spot the odd season out:

2012/2013: 30 games, 4 yellow, 0 red.
2013/2014: 31 games, 2 yellow, 0 red.
2014/2015: 33 games, 5 yellow, 0 red.
2015/2016: 10 games, 7 yellow, 4 red.

Did he start taking bribes, or something?

His stats are as they always have been, aka rather good. He's no slouch when it comes to tackling. It's true that I play with hard tackling, because of my offensive tactics, but it's only him.

Started a new game the other day. But with this one whenever a match starts I'm automatically shown the "TV view". Any ways to avoid this?

After clicking "Submit Team" and before the team talk there is an option on the bottom left relating to match view. Just change it to classic there.

A 33 year old Kolo Toure just signed for Real Madrid for £84m in my game, having signed for Chelsea for £12m three years earlier.

But yeah, the game is fine. No bugs at all.

Had this a view times. There's a way of selecting classic view when your on the match analysis/team talk screens etc. Do that and it should stay on classic view for other games.

Into October in year 1 and im having a common problem, lack of goals, and conceiding.

My league record is nothing to write home about... 7th place with 2 wins, 2 draws and a defeat to Villa.

My best performance so far was against Wolves in the LC with my kids... signed some 15-year-old French lad Roullion spotted and Saivet for a combined 5 million and both broke 8's in this match, as well as Welbeck and Macheda.

Thinking of ditcing 4-4-2 and doing 4-5-1... I'm not going to re-sign Tevez so im gonna try to sell him before the transfer window so he'll move in July, and I'm re-training Rooney to play on the left as Giggs' "replacment".

This is my potential XI after two seasons, i'm setting my side up for the future:

Akinfeev

Rafael Vidic Evans Evra

Carrick

Anderson Ljalic

Saivet---------Rooney

Aguero

Worthy?

For the record i've sold Possebon already in my first off-season for 3 Million

Also, Has anyone started with the newest patch and Tosic has been a beast? He's my first choice LM when I play a 4-4-2, he's on a 7.26 right now !

I had this problem Anderson and i fixed it by dumbing down my tactics.

I'm Spurs and in my first 4 seasons finished between 8th and 5th but i had a good team so i was confused, my problem was shipping goals and not scoring anywhere near enough. Anyway, i kept the exact same formation but changed my team tactics to literally everything set to the middle and only "tight marking" ticked.

Then i went through each of my players and had all of their tactic bars set to the middle apart from my CB's with forward runs to rarely, my wingers to forward runs, cross ball and run with ball often and my strikers both set to run with ball. Everything else is in the middle.

So, same players, same formation but dumbed down tactic and suddenly i finished 2nd in the league and in my first full season with it I'm in February and I'm top.

What a fecking horrendous bug i have just come across.

The date is Saturday 30th March 2013 and i am top of the league by just 1 point so it's getting to the squeaky bum time of the season. I have a game against Fulham, 1 which i should win to strengthen my position at the top and i have 10, yes 10 of my first team squad away on internationals. 6 of which are part of my first 11. Including BOTH of my goalkeepers too!

I'm sure they only QA this game for a season or 2.

EDIT

Drew 1-1 thanks to a last minute leveler from Mark Beevers.

Gotta love it.

Had a bunch of injuries and suspensions and lost the first quarter final of the CL 3-0 at the Nou Camp and then beat them 5-0 in the 2nd back at White Hart Lane with 3 goals in the last 5mins :D

I don't believe it! 2 games before the end of the season, with my Reading sitting in 3rd with 3 points down to 4th and 4 down to 5th, I get docked 9 points for going into adminstration! This drops me down to 7th, and the result is that I might not even get into the UEFA Cup. I was quite a bit in the red, but Reading is owned by a tycoon, who at the end of last season injected £60 million when I was in a similar financial situation (as in a lot of red, not administration)..

Truly gutted. I was ecstatic with probably taking Reading into Europe next season, and this happens!

I've tried this "dumbing down" and it's work

Makes the game a bit boring mind you, but it's getting results if I pick the right team and the players in form.

Just started a new game with the latest patch and an April user updated database, with Man United.

On my second season, I've just had a bid for David Silva accepted for Hargreaves + Fletcher + £3.9m. I tried my best to lobby for a Hargo + up to £14m deal but they turned it down. At first they wanted those two plus Anderson but I was having none of it. I feel a bit guilty because I like Fletcher, he's home grown and was hoping he'd pull a Giggs and retire at the club. Oh well, at least it'd be easier to buy a replacement than come across someone like Silva again, who normally is valued at £80m+.

Can't wait to try a new 4-2-3-1 now.

I'm about to download football manager 2009 again, what do I need to know about latest patch etc?

Its 9.3 I think. Or 9.03 somthing along those lines. Check out fm-base.co.uk, loads of useful stuff on there inlcuding the new patches, face packs, skins all that sort of shit

I've got 10 (!) players injured, all from the first team squad. They're not all first XI players, but that doesn't exactly matter when a few of them are the backups to other positions that I'm missing. I just had three strikers injured in a match. And this is at the end of the season, when I'm in a position to finish 2nd with Reading, and I'm in the 6th round of the FA Cup, and I'm still in the UEFA Cup..

Well playing FM08 (which I much prefer to 09) on the 8.0.1 patch, but I'll post a bit of my progress here anyway.

First year - Demolished championship level. Billy Sharp is an absolute monster. Couple of shrewd signings like Geoffrey Dernis, Cristiano Lupatelli, and Sergiy Nazarenko. Also managed to sign Breno which would turn out to be an excellent piece of business. Got an easy draw in the FA Cup

Second year - Performed well above expectations in the league, just squeaking into 4th thanks to absolute monster years by Billy Sharp (35 goals and 13 assists) and Geoffrey Dernis (7.70 rating; 4 goals 26 assists). Ben Foster on loan was a huge help. Had to sell Breno in January though for 11, rising to 18 million. Spent almost all my money on Andre Pierre Gignac that year, but he failed miserably.

Third year - Signed Matias Cahais, Guilherme (the young left back), and Igor Akinfeev. Right now I'm 13 games into the season with 29 points. Also 1st in my qualification group thanks to my most recent win which was absolutely magnificent. Went down 2-1 to Lyon via 2 penalties within 20 minutes and Matias Cahais got sent off to boot. But I then scored 4 unanswered goals (2 by Sharp to complete a hat trick) and 2 by Nuri Sahin (signed on a free). Has to be one of the FM wins I'm most proud of in all my saves and years. :D

My team now lines up like this:

GK: Akinfeev
RB: Mancienne (on loan)
CB: Kaboul/Dervite
CB: Cahais
LB: Guilherme
DM: Bocundji Ca/Sahin
RM: Gabriel Torje
LM: Geoffrey Dernis
AM: Nazarenko/Sahin/Pjanic
ST: Sharp
ST: Gignac

he's a beast on FM2008

2nd season on my new game with Fiorentina and enjoying FM09 really for the first time. But it's a pain every big club wants my players! Lost Kuzmanovic to Milan and Gilardino to Inter. Having a hard time trying to keep Gamberini (cb), Vargas (lb, lm), Montolivo, Jovetic (lm) and another great italian (cm) whose name I don't remember.

Pushing up the D-line works great against italian teams

I've started playing this recently. Is it actually possible to win anything in Spain if you're not Barcelona? Admittedly I am Racing Santander, but there's only so many games I can watch Barcelona win by about 18 goals before words like 'corruption' and 'bribery' spring to mind.

And amongst a veritable host of teams like AEK, Partizan, Kobenhaven, LASK, Clurj etc, I somehow contrived to draw Manchester United in the first knockout round of the 'Euro' Cup. Bollocks.

Gonna start over as a manager whore... surrently waiting for a job to come free, Feyenoord and Portsmouth both didn't hire me, so im on vacation and applying

I'm a legend in the transfer market. Spent my entire £3mil budget on Pazzini and Lewandowski (who has since gone on to become the best striker on the game) and sold them both for a combined fee of about 50mil. Lewandowski £27mil to Inter (cost me £800k the season before) and Pazzini £19mil to Liverpool (cost me £2.1mil the season before). I didn't want to sell either of them but my board accepted both offers without my consent, because they're feckERS!! And then they used the money to build a new stadium, which instead of having 25 thousand seats, has a staggering 32 thousand (wow) and is costing £83mil. On top of that, despite my transfer market wizardry I have again got a budget of £3mil. Well done board. Gimps. Luckily the Zarate kid is a bargain at £3mil, but I was outbid on my fist choice target by a team from fecking Belgium. Not to mention the fact I was recently leading 4-0 against Villarreal until the 67th minute and then through my own tactical genius, I managed to somehow organize my team into such a way that they conceded 5 goals in 23minutes. feck you Football manager, you will not break me.

Just found something that will bring a bit of life back into the game again (not much, but it's definitely fun for a season or two!)

It's a 99/00 season database. It's FAR from perfect, and shouldn't be expected to be, because it would be alot of work, but most of it is good enough and it's playable. Link is below.

Can't get back into this game, find myself quitting after 6 straight 0-0 draws... different tactics, different personnel, always mixing things up with nothing to show for it

That looks pretty good, might give it a looksie at some point!

Currently enjoying a Bradford City save at the minute, managed to get consecutive promotions and am now in the Championship. Currently top with 15ish games played.

How do people approach away games? I've tried different ways with mixed success. At the moment I'm using an home tactic which as worked well for me at home this season and it seems to be doing better than the more counter attacking/defensive ones I've got for away days. Which is kinda bizarre.

God knows how I'll play when I get into the Premiership, although I have beaten Sunderland and Fulham in the League this year!

It can be frustrating, totally. I've just come of the back of a 7 game winning streak, scoring loads of goals and not conceding one. Then go and play the bottom team, and lose 3-2. Now I haven't won in 3 games for some reason or another.

You will all be pleased to know I won the league with Racing Santander by one point last night. Pretty hairy, myself and Real both went into the last game of the season one point apart and my last game? Away to Athletic. Atheltic are Racing's big rivals and have beaten me almost every sodding time (them and Getafe seem to have some sort of Indian sign over me, so needless to say I was bricking it) Anyway 78th minute and up steps Van Der Vart to take a penalty after Hulk (whom I bought for £3mil due to the sporting board feeling £3mil was an offer too good to turn down- idiots) was viciously fouled in the box. Bottom left corner, keeper went the right way and my heart was in my mouth...1-0. Get in. Thus ensued a nervous 10minutes as my box was completely peppered by the opposition but I held on. My keeper Coltoriti got MoM if I remember rightly. Happy days. Almost makes up for getting dicked 9-0 on aggregate by Bayern in Europe. I can retire happy now.

What season were you in Smashed? Terrific achievement.

Do you find you adjust your tactics home and away, depending on the opposition?

Er fifth. I had 3 different tactics. One for home, one for away, and one specifically for against Real and Barca. All revolved around a 4-4-2 formation. The home one was more attacking, with quick, short passes and plenty of movement. Two attacking fullbacks and two wingers that cut inside and swap positions with the strikers. Away tactic was quite similar except I had my centrebacks defending deep and my fullbacks rarely making attacking runs. Also applied slightly less creative freedom and attacking instinct. My tactic for Real and Barca was to use a flat back 4, 2 defensive midfielders in front of them, 2 wingers and 2 strikers and then just sit back and pray like feck. Real was my 3rd to last game of the season when we were both equal on points. I had them at home, and won 1-0. Then fecked it up in my next game by drawing 0-0 with 18th placed Recreativo. Was not a happy manager.

my team still haven't mastered the art of defending. I've just done a Man Utd; after going 7 games without conceding I've now conceded in my last 6 games conceding a shit load in the process. Most of them from bloody corners too!

*argh*
