Gaming Football Manager 2009

Started a new game with the new patch and before i even got a chance to check becks out newcastle had already bought him for 6 million.

This researcher is great.

Anderson is a reserve who we paid £27m for.

Actually, he is great. One of the most objective researchers of the lot. FYI, who goes in the reserve team or not isn't an option for the researcher, the game decides based on... no one knows. Previously it was Park, then he raised Park's reputation, and now the game moved Anderson down.

Reputation and ability, mostly.

The problem with Anderson is down to the game - we have a big squad, and squad sizes can't be decided within the game, so someone has to give way.

Is this game playable now?

I tried it when it was released and it was stupid. Beating big teams, then lose against total outsiders, players getting injured all the time,...

Newcastle signed beckham and are currently unstoppable, Martins and Owen run rings around everyone and Beckham does whatever he wants and can't be touched.

Set tackling on Martins & Owen on high and they'll both pick-up long-term knocks

I started a new game with Rangers on the new patch, not a single issue with injuries for me, in fact towards the end of the season I kept getting a few niggly injuries but thats just realism in my book. After getting knocked out of the CL group in 3rd I lead Rangers to the Euro final again, only to lose to Real Madrid 4-0, gutted. Fleck is a beast though.

I reckon your right, just noticed on the ticker bar when its loading, I have scored 18 goals from corners where as the rest are averaging about 7, and I haven't even set it to exploit it.

Set your best header to challenge the keeper and your second best to attack the near post, then set it so that the corners will delivered into the 6 yard box and you'll see. :)

Tried it.

Lost 0 - 5 to Tottenham then 0 - 3 to Man City, then again I am Fulham.

I had FM06 through to FM08 but never bought FM09. Now I've 'detoxed' I can honestly say I don't miss it, having just given it a go. The bugs really do make it unplayable and while there's a blatant bias towards gameplay for top leagues, playing as a league two side leaves you with little that you can actually change. I'm playing as Barnet and the amount of times that I can predict how the game will go without being able to change it (because game-changing players are hard to come by in league two...) is frustrating to the point where I just close the game and do something I enjoy :D

Is anyone here considering not buying the next FM because I tell you now, you miss it a bit but then you play it and you think - "I made the right choice" :)

You know I saw FM05 in the shops the other day for a tenner and considered picking it up, just for the novelty value of seeing how all of our players were rated back then (and of course players that wouldgo on to play for us)

i loved FM 2005. had Baptista and Sneijder in cm with Ronaldo and VDV on the wings...Rooney and Cavenaghi up-front.

I downloaded CM 97/98 the other day; there's nothing like a bit of nostalgia.

CM 01/02 is the best of them all, every player had 20 in speed.

Very inflated attributes back then.

The latest patch is far from bug-riddled. And of course playing in league two is harder than playing in the Premier League :S

Actually, step back, stop playing for some months and then play again. You'll see the entire game is riddled with bugs. Hell, there's some bugs that have been active since before I started playing.

I'm playing this.

Sadly I'm at a rubbish club, so I can't pick up any of the super Greeks.

That doesn't make any sense. How will me playing this a lot mean I'm missing bugs?

Of course, if you're so good at finding these bugs, why haven't you reported them to the bug forum?

Personally I think you're full of it. "Don't play it" isn't a niMic-approved way of discovering bugs.

I remember somebody called Tobros or something like that

Heading 20
Tackling 20
Determination 20
Speed 20
Acceleration 20
Marking 20
Jumping 20

He was sick, at the age of 19

I'm a managerial whore in my current game, usually I stick by a club and build up my team but it's 2012 and I've managed four teams.

Started with Fulham, got them to 9th in the first season then UEFA Cup qualification in the next. Then I took the Ivory Coast job but for some reason they did not have a goalkeeper at all, not even a shitty reserve, so I managed to get them AFCON qualification with a number of 5 - 3's

I quit that because it would have been annoying in the actual tournament, and managed West Brom for the last 12 games of their season, they were already 4th and I got them promotion, also lost in the FA Cup final to City, my route there was easy though.

Now I'm the Croatia boss, took over at the start of Euro 2012 and I actually managed to win it  Despite having an injury ravaged squad I flukily beat Italy and then Spain in the final. By 2012 Modric has become quite a player, he set up both goals for Eduardo.

Although it's FM2008 (my laptop likes it more than 2009) I suppose I'll lump my story in here...

Started a game as Southend (just picked a random League 1 side)... bought a few midfielders and set up a midfield diamond formation behind two strikers... Currently sitting 5th in the League in early December. Leading scorer is Richie Foran and his strike parnter is Leon Clarke... Lewis Hunt (some whiney RB big time Charlie who never turns up for training) had a whinge about never playing (because he's shit), so I stuck him in at RB for one game... AND HE SCORES FROM THE feckING HALFWAY LINE.

I never said you're missing bugs, you're well aware of them, especially when you lose. I don't need to report these bugs, they've been well documented for ages, just check most of the rants on the official forums.

Your personal opinion is your personal opinion, in all honesty I don't care, I'm just pointing out that once you stop playing and you look back you really do laugh. A bit like RuneScape.

I just started a game where I want to be a managerial whore. On the last 3-4 FM's the only games I've done, long term, are United and Maidenhead United, top and bottom. And in both those games the entire point is that I don't leave the club. Eventually (much quicker in the United game than the Maidenhead game) I get bored, and just quit the game altogether.

This time I started with some of the big leagues playable and my national league (Norway). I started unemployed, and if I ever get what I perceive to be an offer that would be an upgrade, I'll take it.

It's quite refreshing.

1st season with AC Milan, finished 2nd with 90 points and an amazing goal difference. Juve were just too good. I also won the Uefa cup.

1st year brought in:

Sakho
Coloccini
Renan Oliviera
Paloschi
Insua
Veloso
Akinfeev

I sold:
Pirlo

This year they decided to give me a transfer budget of £149m!

Did that piss off the team/the fans?

Sweet feck

No, from the first day I was there he wanted a new challenge. No matter what I did he wasn't happy. In january I decided to cash in and sold a 29 year old worth 13m for 25m to Barca. I bought Veloso to replace him.

So far, I've bought Benzema, Aguero and Rafinha.

Anyone had any exprience with Cavani or Keirrison?

I've had 20 mill and 15 mill bids accepted for them both, but unsure of which one to pick. Cavani's stats are better, but anyone had any experiences with them?

Could get them cheaper.

This is the start of my 2nd season. Palermo wanted 27 mill for Cavani, but I managed to bring it down to 20.

With Keirrison, I couldn't get them to budge for anything less.

Any opinions on which one to pick? I'm kind of leaning towards Cavani at the moment.
