Gaming Football Manager 2009

I would hate to see what you lot are like in RL if you didn't support United, when you can't handle one teams dominance in a game.

How did this resolve itself niMic? Did they get a lot worse when Wenger retired or did they continue to win everything?

I've heard numerous reasons for their domination, some of which revolve around their kids being far too highly rated (which would mean that they should start to lose things in another six or seven years when a lot of them have moved on) whilst others suggest it's because Wenger's AI is absolutely perfect for taking advantage of the match engine (in which case they should stop winning everything next season, seeing as he's now retired).

Or did you stop running that save?

It's still running, but I haven't done more than two years (further) into the future. This is for the FM Experiment I'm running, so every couple of years I have to write the update, which takes some time.

They did actually win the league the two seasons that I have ran so far after that, as well. Thing is, in the season before that one, they won it with 97 points, that season 95 points (2nd with 70). The season after they won it with maybe 15 points, but that was mostly because all the other teams were incredibly poor that season.

The last season, they won it roughly 3 points ahead of United. At the same time United beat them in the FA Cup final (United also won the Champions League). They're still one of the best teams in the world, but they're just not THAT dominant. I've got at least another 5-6 years left to simulate, and I'm expecting to see their incredible run end well within that time.

I'll keep ye posted.

Arsenal are not hard to beat in FM 2009, but they are one of the teams who can kill you if you have your tactics wrong. Lot of the players are new starters or have played just few seasons.

i have been playing since the days of championship manager days, So have plenty of experience behind me,

Apart from that lot of the in game manager want to play with same tactic throughout the game, they do not change as per the AI, some of them are lazy, doing in game changes.

Arsenal would rip the teams to shred if you don't adapt according their technique.

Try this and let me know how it goes,

Play against Arsenal (Home or Away)
First 20 min they will attack hard, play high tempo, fast pacing, attack, if they score they will revert back to normal style, so its very important to adapt to these changes against teams like Arsenal, Barca, Milan and so on.

But i do agree that Arsenal are lethal when AI has control over it, as some of the stats of their players feel inflated, just 2 season's ago, UCL final, Van Persie scored 90 min equaliser from 40 yrds out, Asenjo didn't even have a chance to stop it, such was the pace, though i won it in extra time, 3-1. But i was pissed off as soon as i watched the goal.

Heres the story of my struggle to overcome Arsenals dominance.

I'm in 2017 in my game. I started with QPR and eventually won everything with them except the league, including the CL after beating Arsenal in the final. Team had some cracking regens and also Marquinhos, Flamini and Di Maria.

I found it impossible to win the league and was fast loosing interest in the game. I was just waiting around for a big Spanish/Italian club to come in. Adebayor, Higuain, Walcott, Fabregas and Vela were all scoring for fun and some of their winning margins were just ridiculous.

In 2015 ManCity came in and offered me a budget of 100m+. I took the offer(dont you judge me). I assembled one hell of a team(including Ronaldo and Benzema) but still came runner up to Arsenal.

Next summer my policy was simple, buy Arsenal players only. After much effort I managed to pry away Vela, easily their best striker and the player with the highest average rating. Adebayors too old and rubbish now and Fabregas(their best player) just didnt want to leave.

I won the league on the final day on goal difference. Arsenal's standard definetly dropped. They didnt even manage to sign any replacements for Vela.

So. Moral of the story...the only way to beat Arsenal in the league, is to spend loads of cash weakening their team. Or hope other teams do it for you.

It doesn't have anything to do with that. There's screenshots of absolute ridiculous domination by Arsenal - when their title challenge hasn't got started yet. Half their central midfielders are, in terms of attributes, vastly better than Carrick, for example. Gallas is actually a good defender there too, while Almunia is better than Given.

I actually suspect all the complaints made someone "high up" within SI to tell the Arsenal researcher to sharply downgrade Arsenal as a result. After all, shortly after it was released, the Arsenal researcher was going on to knock off like 10 CA points from every player or something.

Oh, to beat Arsenal on all their games, I do high defensive lines, moderate width and hard-tackle, close-down, tight-mark and show onto weaker foot on Fàbregas. I also do offside-traps because there's little point in trying to nullify strong, fast strikers. Force Arsenal to play very narrow or very wide where they struggle. A 4-4-2 usually does, although I prefer 4-2-3-1 and its variants.

I've never changed my tactics to play Arsenal and in 6 meetings i've beat them 5 times. They havent won a single competition in 2 years either and have been nowhere near winning the league.

Odd.

Actually, I was casually considering selling Rooney in my game as well. I have Tevez and a wonderkid re-gen who is already as good,

Well i play with 2 up top and Tevez and Bojan are making it impossible for me to take them out of the side. Real are sniffing around Rooney but to be honest i don't think i could sell him, he's handy to have on the bench!! :D

Finally cracked double figures... i lost the first leg of this match 1-0.

Just finished my third season with Newcastle.

- Won the League Cup beating Chelsea in the final
- Won the Premiership by one point from Man Utd, I only lost 1 game all season.
- Won the Champions League. Beat Real in the Final thanks to a last minute Demba Ba goal.

Historic treble after only three years at Newc. I play a very attacking 4-3-3 and rely on very powerful strikers and a very creastive attacking midfielder.

Regens seem to have been hit in 9.0.2. A friend of mine is playing the game unpatched and is seeing awesome wonderkid regen after awesome wonderkid regen coming through, whereas I've yet to see one. There's plenty of regens with high potentials and stats in the right places, but none of them are currently world beaters.

Woah Spammy. No one posts on this thread for nearly forty-eight hours and then we post at the same time.

Unlucky you. There are regens of around CA 180 (which, by the way, is world-class material) being randomly generated at ages 18-19 at unknown countries on month-to-month contracts - which makes them easy to sign.

fecking psychic shit man.

I'm in 2011 and I can't find any regens. Where, specifically, is the best place to look?

The game should be crawling with regens in 2011,

Apologies in advance if this comes across in a patronizing way (not intended) but regens stands for "regenerated players" (basically players who aren't real), they're the ones that have the computer generated graphics for faces.

If you look in your under 18s there should be quite alot of them already (i think every team gets a new batch of regens yearly). Also if you go to player search and put a filter on the search that says maximum of 18 then most of those players should be regens in 2011.

I'm aware of that, I'm talking about these world class regens that everybody is supposedly getting...?

I place a scout in each of the Under 18's competition of all the leagues i have activated... usually they get picked up on the radar.

Mines gone arse about face again. pop up appears, "System low on memory" and turns off by itself! Wouldnt mind but my laptop is new(ish) with enough memory to gobble FM09 up!!! Pain in the arse as my QPR team is destined for greatness.

Theres one way to find them easily, and thats the cheating way :P (well depends if you call it cheating as most of the scouts wont find you a good player) basically download the scout (think its called) utilty and search by potential ability, you can also tick a regen box so you just get regens.

I don't think by 2011 there will be any world class ones of the bat (shouldnt really be anyway) but there should be loads with potential. So i suggest either the cheat way OR just set your scouts onto loads of young decent looking regens.

Arsenal are very over rated, in my QPR game which I am now in my 5th season in the league Arsenal are as follows;

08-09: They won the league with 94 points beating Chelsea by 11 points.
09-10: They won the league with 87 points beating Man Utd by 2 points.
10-11: They won the league with 94 points beating Man Utd by 13 points.
11-12: They won the league with 87 points beating Man Utd by 10 points.

Champions League winners 2008-09 and 2011-12.
Club World Cup 2009-10
FA Cup winners 2010-11
League Cup Never surprisingly

It doesn't bother me at the moment as I'm just trying to get my QPR side into the top 8.

I'm reading through from the start of a huge football thread we have at a forum I frequent (10k posts, and that's a forum where spamming doesn't happen and posts actually mean something), and I just saw myself listing up my team on FM05 in 2008 (in-game year, that is). Note item in attack, one Dimitar Berbatov.

Surely prophetic. Yes.

Just bought this, never played it.

Small Medium or Large Database?

Anyone have a strong download for it yet?

All the torrents are full of virus and issues (cracks not working, etc)

Just seeing if anyone knows, then i'll be tempted to do what I did with 2008 and (*sigh*) but it.

Actually, what you'll want is a .ddt file. You can make one that loads up all the players from the countries to specify. Much better than just a standard large database. I've got a fairly good computer, so I've got all the players from quite a lot countries. Check the SI FM09 forums, under editors corner or whatever its called (you might need to register on the forum).
