Gaming Football Manager 2009

the 3d match engine is lagging for me ..
is it like that for everyone or should i consider getting my old useless graphics card replaced

Happened to me, so I got the latest driver for my graphics card by searching manually on the net(the update feature on Device Manager didn't find the update).

No problems after that.

i did that , but i have a fx5200 , its really really old

thinking of getting something new .. the problem is i dont have a pciE slot .. agp8x it'll have to be :(

dont want to upgrade the mobo now .. will look for a temp solution (agp card), almost any card will be an upgrade over what i have now

This is more a question across all FM games...

who is your best claim to getting into the national team (without coaching the national team).

I think 3 FM's ago i got Nyron Nosworthy as a regular into the English team.

Pepe got caps at the ripe-old age of 37 in my game, despite the fact that my coaches all said he would barely make Serie C2.

Ronaldo has 191 caps for Portugal at the moment, and I'm seriously considering signing him so he can hit the magical 200 mark.

nice, more referring to players who arent internationals but you turn into internationals. Its much easier for a player to get into a squad once they have been in it before. But the first cap is the hardest.

I can't check now as he's retired, but I think I managed to get Digão (Kaká's little and not-so-talented brother) capped for Brazil - and Digão is absolute rubbish. I inflated his ratings by allowing him to stand on the near post for corners and making Alessio Cerci (Corners 16, Crossing 16, Technique 15) take the corners, resulting in plenty of goals for him. He simply stood in midfield and won headers, too, with his Jumping of 18 (just don't ask him to do anything else).

There was also a case where I managed to get an 18-year-old regen capped for Norway while I was in the Blue Square Premier - and no Premiership club was interested in him.

I can never get my AM to play well.

No matter who it is they always get between a 5 and 6 rating.

feckin hell talk about getting shafted by the game!

Top of the league and still in all comps at the end of March, i have a game against Stoke, beat them 3-0 but in that game i get 4 big injuries:

Ronaldo - 2 months
Rooney - 1 month
Nani - 1 month
Tevez - 3 weeks

They need to be 96+ to get a starting spot. Reserves dont matter as much due to the fact everyone else will be more buggered then they already are when they come on.

Condition is usually what makes me pick one player over another (as opposed to skill level, generally). Especially for strikers.

David Gill has sold Witsel behind my back to Chelsea for 20mil!

I've only had him 1 year, which was a year spent in my reserves getting better. It's not like i needed the money either, this Summer i've sold Vidic for 30mil, Fletcher for 15mil, TK for 5mil and a few others.

Didn't need him?! He's one of the best defenders in the game, and unless you edited Evans somewhat he wont be as good as Vidic before Vidic is on the downward slope. Thinking Evans (in FM) and Lescott = Vidic is crazy. Would you sell Ronaldo for £40 million and buy Walcott and Joaquin?

is it normal to have a feckload of your players being hassled by madrid in this game or is that just my bad luck?

No i didn't need him, and i'm not missing him either. Off to an absolute flyer this season and just thumped Arsenal 4-0 :D

And no i wouldn't sell Ronaldo for 40mil, because he's much younger than Vidic. I don't usually let my players get over 30, apart from the Keeper.

EDIT: Plus i like to bring in British+Irish players where possible in favour of foreigners when possible.

EDIT AGAIN: And if you were pissed that i sold Vidic, God knows what you'd say if i said i'm thinking of selling Rooney!!

Actually, I was casually considering selling Rooney in my game as well. I have Tevez and a wonderkid re-gen who is already as good, and I often play only one striker in front of my Guardado - Messi - Ronaldo midfield. As for the defense, I sold Evans not long ago. He's just not needed. I have four regens who all can be as good as Ferdinand, roughly, and one of them is extremely fast to boot (that one I've been using quite regularly this season).

Thought i would point out this works on Mac as well, i created the graphics folder in the main directory but im not sure if that work so i also put it in

Data/sigfix/Graphics

and it works

Loads of amazing regens from the looks of things. Is this good, what's the latest dates some of you lads have got to?

I'm only into my 2nd season, coming up to Jan. I would say I play the game quite slow. Change tactics for each team, pitch, player availabilty, etc...

They did indeed the league again. And everything else.

Wenger just retired though, so if they suddenly start doing worse we know why Arsenal are overpowered.

How did this resolve itself niMic? Did they get a lot worse when Wenger retired or did they continue to win everything?

I've heard numerous reasons for their domination, some of which revolve around their kids being far too highly rated (which would mean that they should start to lose things in another six or seven years when a lot of them have moved on) whilst others suggest it's because Wenger's AI is absolutely perfect for taking advantage of the match engine (in which case they should stop winning everything next season, seeing as he's now retired).

Or did you stop running that save?

Bit of everything.

Arsenal's kids are overrated - they're being seriously nerfed for the next data update.

They also happen to have the highest off-the-ball ratings on average of all the top teams and likely the world, which makes them impossible to mark.

Adebayor is a fast and strong striker, which is a combination the match engine fails to deal with spectacularly. Watch Rooney hit 100+ goals for England soon as another example.

Wenger's tactics don't make it easy - short, fast passing makes it impossible for you to win the ball again - even human managers struggle.

Arsenal have a young squad which ensures domination for several years later.

Arsenal's ticket prices and their stadium results in obscene values of money being generated. Also, their wage budget doesn't reflect Wenger's policies - Wilshere is rumoured to be on around 12,000 pounds per week (!) at the moment, while Flamini left because they refused to go beyond, say, 40,000 pounds per week. Arsenal's wage budget is nowhere near the most accurate comparison, Manchester United. These factors mean Arsenal never run out of money.

New managers will change something but not much - Arsenal's strategy, after all, is built-in, right? Just as it was for 2008.
