Gaming Football Manager 2009

I completely re-did my formation and tactics, and it might have helped. Rooney scored, anyway, for the first time since the league opener. Then he got injured for a month in the same match, of course. Vidic also scored, so he's keeping up with Rooney, along with Hargreaves.

Has anyone yet managed to engineer a United side which scores a lot of goals? I'm doing alright, getting a bunch of points, in reach of #1 (which belongs to Blackburn), but I've scored 1.3 goals per game. I don't concede a lot of goals at all, but when I score so few goals the risk is great that I'll suddenly start drawing lots of games because that elusive one goal isn't there anymore. Rooney has scored 1 goal in 12 games (7 league games), Tevez 3 and Berbatov 4.

Players equalling Rooney's goal tally:
Hargreaves
Vidic
Ferdinand
Anderson
O'Shea

I'm not looking for a complete tactic, as I feel that takes away some of the game for me. I could probably go find some super-tactic and win everything, but where's the fun in that? I could do with some pointers for this game engine, though. I haven't usually had this problem in my United games on previous FM's. More of the opposite, rather, I used to concede a lot of goals.

When I do score more than a couple goals, I look decidedly unimpressive (like just not against Fiorentina).

i have got standard 4-4-2 with Nani and Ronaldo bulging forward from midfield. Though i have suggestion if you are using united

play berba as target man, play rooney as fast striker,(full attacking, creativity, forward runs, long shot-mixed, free role)

make sure you put in cross ball as run onto the ball, you will score loads with rooney, i have got cordoza and berba as target man and rossi and rooney as fast striker

i am in feb and rooney as scored a total of 42 goals(32 league, 8 continental)

let me know how you go.

Although some of you may cringe at this, do note that there is a fairly easy way to get money if you're a Premiership club.

Do something like this:

i was offered :eek:55m pounds:eek: for fletcher, did not want to accept it, but had to, the offer was too good to turn down.

Holy shit, those stats are crazy. I have to be honest, I've played CM/FM for a long time, but I never really got the hang of the whole target man deal. Which player instructions do you suggest I put Berbatov on?

Right now I'm playing a sort of 4-4-2, with Hargreaves pulled down and Guardado and Ronaldo (at the monent, anyway) put as offensive wingers. Seems like the sort that would work well with a proper target man, but I'm hesitant to experiment too much with it considering I haven't really used a target man before.

And there I just drew 0-0 at home to Wigan. My 4th home draw in 6 matches, against the likes of Boro, Everton, Hull and now Wigan. Extremely offensive tactic the last 20 minutes, not a chance in sight. This is getting depressing.

Im loving this. What ever tactic I choose with Barcelona works. My current team/formation

...........Valdes
Alves - Puyol - Pique - Abidal

Iniesta - Toure - Xavi

............Messi
Etoo.............Aguero

Messi has been given a free role and he takes on players and takes random shots with devastating effect.

here is the deal,

make sure - target men passing is set to run onto the ball.

for berba - mentality - attacking(but not full gung ho style, just few clicks from normal, forward runs - mixed, creative - full, run with the ball -mixed, hold up on the ball.

i cant remember all the settings as i am @ work, if you can post all the attributes for team instruction and player instruction. i can write up the other details.

I had to watch a lot of games before i came up with my tactics, also make sure you have fast fullback, i would say brown and evra are nice, i have got srna @ rb and evra @ lb, i have got run with the ball - always and forward runs to mixed.

Arsenal are so overrated on this game it's making me sick. I started to get a tactic together, and I've yet to lose in the league. Won the last 10 or so matches. Then I meet Arsenal in the League Cup, and fecking Denilson runs circles around my players, scoring a header and then a 35 yarder (from a stand still).

I just don't see how a team that has basically won nothing the last few years can consistently be rated as the best team on FM.

Oh look, another 35 yarder, from Adebayor this time. 1-5 at Old Trafford, I just might resign.

Thank feck it's just the League Cup. I'm still in a good position to win the league, but this is stuff that ruins entire seasons. Somehow Van der Sar managed to play a 6.6 after conceding 5 goals. Ronaldo was the best at 7.0, while the rest were in the 5.x range, except for Rio at 4.6 and Hargreaves at 4.3.

Do you not understand why transfer muppets are mostly FM players?

I'm a cronic FM player, and I'd like to think I'm not a muppet. I guess you could say that almost all muppets are FM players, but not all FM players are muppets. That'd work.

Though thankfully the Arsenal researcher has realized that some of the players are a bit overrated (Van Persie and Adebayor first among those, I think), and plans on toning them down. I think it was the previous Arsenal researcher who was the ultimate in red-tinted research though, this one is at list willing to listen to reason.

Thing is though, I've never been able to deal with Arsenal in the last couple of FM's. Even games where I'm winning most of what there is to win, I'm always in line for some ridiculous drubbing by Arsenal every other season or so.

I usually manage to beat them to the trophies, but that sort of thing can break a man's spirit, it can! (And induce long incoherent rants on football forums).

Yeah sorry i meant all muppets are FM players not all FM players are muppets. Oh well time to leave work early to go and buy this :) . I take it the Windows and MAc versions are hte same CD/DVD.

Hey Nimic, i have got suggestion on how to defend against so called big four.

1) make sure you make ** cb go deep down inside the D box.

2)Make sure you pick 2 cm who have high work rate and also are good at creating chances.

3) For opposition instruc, (if Arsenal are playing 4-4-2)try this, make your pacey defender (Ferdinand) tight mark adebayor, make sure you get Vidic to close down Van Persie. Also go tackling hard to start and as you start getting yellow cards reduce individual player tackling level accordingly.

4) I have Srna @ rb & Evar @ Lb but you can use brown, do not use nev, as he is slow in FM:( get them to tight mark MR & ML resp, do not close them down as both Eboue and Walcott run like sonic in the game.

5) Close down cm always and tight mark fibberglass. Also defen line deep, counter attack, playmaker and target man.

Finally if you are using this tactic and your prev formation has huge difference, players might take time to gel. so give some time,

i have played three season and i have played Arsenal about 13 times and have only lost 1 in 2008/09 when i was new to game engine. if you want me to upload my tactic i will do it later, just pm me.

Let me know how you go,.

Hahaha! Berbatov just got injured for 6 months with a broken leg against City. On the 30th of December. I was going to try to sell him to them in the January window.

Best part is, I'm really not worried. I haven't gotten Berbatov to work at all. I guess I just have to wait till the summer to sell him. It also gives me a good excuse to buy another striker.

Sell him to City for 50 million pounds, clearly.

Sell him to City for 50 million pounds, clearly.

I tried offering him even though he's injured, but apparently his willingness to stay at the club put other clubs off. I'm spending the rest of my transfer money on Cassano now.

I thought I was doing good. Even after the close 2-1 loss at the Emirates, I won my my next two matches against West Ham and City. I think I won't win the league though, simply because Arsenal have apparently gone into super-team mode. They just won't stop winning.

Has anyone got Berbatov scoring at all? I haven't seen him score more than 10 a season. Man Utd just offered me Berbatov and £20 million for Veloso which I rejected obviously.

Arsenal are going to be seriously nerfed in the next patch (apparently coming out on the 18th) as a result - plenty of people have complained about ridiculously dominating Arsenal.

And Cassano?! I thought he had rather pathetic personality traits, which reflects him in real life.

I bought Adriano for 1.6m after the first season. He's not great but a good backup.

I feel a little bit dirty now. I caved in and downloaded a tactic. Only played two games, but I've had striker-goals in both of them, and played well for a change. Cassano has been playing well too. I may have downloaded a tactic, but I'm at least going to study and try to see what makes it work (it might not 'work' better than the couple I've made already for this particular save, but whatever).

Not that I'm going to use it for very long. I've got the plans for a new tactic in my head for next season. It just takes some planning in the player department (first and foremost offloading Berbatov, and raising Anderson as the perfect attacking midfielder).

Can anyone playing United help me. Were your players on holiday untill the 29th of July too after the first season? I just finished my first season and my assistent told me they would be on holiday untill the 29th of July which seems a bit long to me. I'll only have two weeks for pre-season training and friendlies.

Alright the guys deserve a bit of rest after winning 5 cups (including a champions league win against liverpool :D) and the premier league and after just losing in the FA Cup final but come on two months of vacation is a bit long.

(Rafael just got in a fight with Neville , now they hate eachother, great game this.)

That seems long to me. I had my first friendly on the 19th.

As for Neville, poor fellow hasn't really featured in a while for me. Rafael doesn't look that good based on stats or the assistant report, but he kept getting man of the match in games I put him in, so now I use him regularly.

Same in my game, it reached a point where even though I won 11 out of the last 13 games, Arsenal won all 13 and snatched the league.
Gits.
And they won the FA cup.

However I thrashed Liverpool 8-0 at Anfield, so the season was still a success:devil:

Oh and has anyone else found that Evra is far and away the most consistent performer in the league? He's never had a bad game for me, unlike all my strikers who regularly fluctuate between an 8.0 one game and a 5.0 the next.

My strikers are extremely unstable. Ronaldo is probably my most consistent performer atm, but Evra is high up on the list. He's also usually the one who runs the farthest every match.

Neville was my third best player in season 1. :D Don't know how he will evolve now in the second season. I hoped to make him a coach but now that he got into a fight with rafael...

What's this -9 business?

Rafael might not have a future on your team though. In "vanilla" FM he's set to a -8 potential, which I think leaves a very slim chance that he'll have the potential to be a United starter (or even backup). I changed him to -9 on my copy. I usually don't do that (change players), but the United researcher said he was going to do that on the next patch anyway (along with Possebon).

I'm going to give him some games in the second season, like I did in the first one. I think neville has another season in him so I've got some time to try out Rafael. When he played in the first season he did quite well so we'll see...

Too bad that due to some bug I don't have a reserve league in England. When you load the game in Dutch it won't load the reserve league  I didn't know about this untill I was at the end of the first season. So my young players above 18 don't get any games unless I play them in the first team.

Real Madrid are after Park in my game but I won't sell anyone to those cnuts. :D

You can what I had to do on my Maidenhead games on previous FM's. There, there were no u18 or reserve leagues at that level, so at the start of every season I set up regular matches between my u18 side and my reserve side.

It took me three seasons to get a tactic that is working well for me(West Brom, no cheating/scout etc.) in the European places the last two seasons and am the League Cup holders). As you can tell, it's not a super-tactic, but it suits my team. The 3d engine is a godsend in that regard. The changes are way more obvious when you can see them, so you work out quickly what differences little tweaks make.
