Football Boots

I have a question (cause I'm too lazy to search). When did the first pair of colored (in the sense that black boots where the norm years ago) boots appear ? I mean football has become a circus with players having rainbows as shoes.
I loved the times where everyone had one color, I'm blasé

I was born in 1988, I started training at 5. I've never owned black boots.

Which pair tonight then for my game?

F10's or the T90's...(See last page)

Weather has been awful here today pissing it down so will be wet.

May the CAF decide.

Oi Spammy, i'm in the market for new boots and would appreciate your input. I tend to play upfront and am quite a skillful, quick little prick on the pitch. I've seen the new mercurials in the shop and they are stupid expensive so wouldn't get them unless you really rate them, in which case i probably still wouldn't get them.

If you are good, it does not matter what boots you have on. Its the skill in the feet that is much more important. I simply use whatever is the cheapest that I can get my hands on. Currently using a pair of Kronos bought for Singapore S$49.About 20 British pounds

Damn right - my last pair cost 9 quid in the clearance sale yet I'm still a quality player :D

Your mates probably bought you the cheap version, the ones with the propper material go for about £100 usualy, most expensive ive seen is £170

Is correct.

Mine are tearing in the front, after not even one full season of using them. (ive used them for about 12-15 games now). What a shame.

Oh well, guess its back to predators for me.

On a side note, strangely enough the first place to go/tear on my boots are the front part of the instep - just on the inside of the big toe. Does this happen to anyone else/is this the norm? They always start eating grass first and eventually it tears.

Aye that's where the most wear and tear is, particularly if you play on dry or artificial surfaces.

Cool, thanks.

I play mainly on dry surfaces and obviously, when it rains, wet surfaces. So even though most of your passing, shooting are with other parts of the boot, it would always be the part suffering most wear and tear?

Well often when passing or striking the ball that's the bit that will drag along the ground, particularly on your standing foot.

Right, so forget all the gimps telling you to buy adidas world cups. If you're the speedy tricky type of player then you need boots to match.

First off, do you want speed boots, power boots or a mixture? What is your budget?

The adizeros are much more advanced than the mercurials, so if you are going to spend big I wouldn't recommend you get mercurials over adizeros. Adizeros are about £90 for the best version.

I quite like the look of the CTR360 Elites, but they are mega bucks. The lasers are brilliant boots but quite heavy and I wouldn't recommend them for a winger. Depends on how heavy you are willing to go. What have you had in the past?

I've had those for about 3 years now. I quite liked them but wouldn't mind something lighter. The lasers are the ones rooney and torres wear right? They cost about 160 quid here which is around about as much i want to spend, although i could stretch to 200 i suppose. The new mercurials are over 300 quid here, which is too much really.

Those are cool, if they are the pro edition. I have them in SG.

The Lasers are worn by Rooney and Torres yes, but Torres wears the standard while Rooney and players like Scholes wear the Elite (Red and silver/orange) versions which are about 17% lighter. They are much more expensive though. The CTR360s are like a hybrid of Lasers and Mercurials designed for control and precise passing, they also have Elite versions.

I'll have a look at the adizeros, ctr360 elites and laser elites then i guess. Cheers

One more thing, you don't need to try the lasers or the ctr360s on if you've had no problems with other Nikes over the years, but the adizeros need to be tried on to see if your feet are compatible, as they need a strong breaking in period, if they don't kill your feet when you first try them on and you break them in properly then it's like playing in a pair of slippers.

I tried the blue lasers(well one boot) and it seemed decent. Was that the regular then, not the elite?

Yeah regular, the Elite has the carbon fibre sole plate and synth leather which reduces weight.

You seem to know all about boots so wondered who it actually was you played for

Liverpool u-17s.

Had a pair of these (in the red colourway) - comfortable if a little chunky. Used to alternate between them and a pair of Nike R9s (that were to evolve into the Vapors) which were light and pacy but not as good as the preds for striking a ball.

You just seem to be one of these know it all people regarding football boots and I thought it would be interesting to see who you actually played for. If anyone.
