Just noticed the subs.... did I go to a back six?!

(Edit... 6-0-4?)

Annoyed to see Puskas and Kubala having such strong games. I had planned for Puskas R1 only to be pipped at the death by @Invictus @Ecstatic then saw Kubala go R1 for the first time ever.

Funny how I worked various defensive combos but never even thought Johan would stick Krol and van Hanegem on the bench.

Seems he isn't particularly happy with my gambles on the wing either. Causio starting left and my youngest player in Figo on the right... Morales must suck then, fecking Nacional players :annoyed:

I thought the manager sets the formation?
Some wanted it changed to something else. You know, the entire point of picking a legendary manager is overruling his preferences

@Edgar Allan Pillow @altodevil86 Even if you edit the preferred formation everything in the manager's profile will point elsewhere so either you get a confused manager or he changes his preferences (again).

Nothing wrong with wanting him to play a different formation with his preferences intact. Twat.

Wow saw some of this earlier but didn't have time to comment.

First off 1000-1 odds. Great start

My games seem quite close at the moment though with high scoring all round which is exactly what I wanted.

Final point WTF is LLoris doing starting over DDG!

Thanks for the updates @oneniltothearsenal thoroughly enjoyable!

The thing is his preferences would be consistent with a certain formation. Imagine keeping Capello's preferences and telling him to play 4-2-4. It just won't fly.

Oh, and

The scary thing with @NM isn't Ronaldo but how he is free-scoring while Jairzinho, Rivaldo and Giggs are developing in Orsi's and Rahn's shadow. :nervous:

So far it seems like 4-2-4 may be an ideal FM formation given the AIs attacking bias.

I'm starting to think manager pref is BS, for some reason Lippi played 4-2-3-1 wide, a formation he never really used in real life. This really messes things up because i didn't select many out and out wingers, i think Pires is the only one.

Didn't you get them off OneNil at the start? They are indeed mostly bollocks. Lots of managers have been created as 4-2-3-1.

I had the same issue with Cruyff whereby I thought I'd be playing a rather direct 3-4-3 diamond but the preferences were essentially Pep's, not his. Refused to give him tiki taka players though, just rather direct players with good technique, passing and (hopefully) the engine for a high press game. That's actually why I didn't pick Orsi, for example, had no idea how suitable he could be.

Nope :nervous: i was drafting under the assumption that manager preferences would be fairly accurate (the formation atleast).

Cheers @oneniltothearsenal , this has been a great read.
Is it possible to show screenshots where you can see the formation and player names after the game?

fantastic job @oneniltothearsenal !
only god knows what the feck did Fergie drink before the game....Barthez starting over Edwin, Larsson on the wing, Scholes not even used :nervous:

Thought Gento might end up as a wing-back. Never thought he'd take Cafu's place on the right.

These managers are mental. Herrera plays 4-2-3-1 as well and dominated possession :wenger:

Good thing I got @Tuppet early on with the favourite tag going to their heads :smirk: Bican scored too early

Fortunately the first matchday also gives us the first edition of The Mustard Derby. @Edgar Allan Pillow @altodevil86 @Skizzo @Joga Bonito And it was one of the best matches of the first week. Clough is starting Johan Cruijff and Lefter (Not even trying with his last name) in a flat 442. This was a crazy match. I won’t try to put much suspense here as the reality is Lobanovskyi’s side pressed Clough off the pitch. Also the front three of Ademir, Pedernera, Tirnanic (before he got injured) and Hidegkuti just played some brilliant football. One positive for Edgar was Cruyff getting a hat trick. One of the higher scoring matches by a margin:

Travesty that Cruyff has to suffer in a 4-4-2 alongside Scouse cloggers like Schtevie G and Emlyn Hughes, it's about time he moved on to a side who know a thing or two about playing football. See you in January Johann.

For the final match report. We finally get to see @spontaneus1 Hitzfeld’s 3412 against the @Skizzo @Joga Bonito Orange Crush. Hitzfeld has Diego Maradona in his arsenal with Bremner and Sammer behind him. With Carlos Alberto and Cabrini as Hitzfeld’s wingbacks this makes an interesting tactical battle for Lobanovskyi’s Beckenbauer spiked mixture. Duncan Edwards and Valentino Mazzola were selected in midfield for this one with Beckenbauer leading the Skizzonito defense. Skizzonito is already looking like a favorite so Diego needs to bring his best game

Thanks @Ecstatic and @Skizzo appreciate it.

Diego Maradona in the side with Sammer and C.Alberto in defense, Hansen chosen as the key man . Even he'd have been embarrassed by that.

Glorious start. Who the feck is Lefter?

, we also have Madeley who we picked as a utility player starting for us in midfield with the likes of Zito and Nils feckin Liedholm on the bench

Feck off

Didn't Liedholm start as a left winger for you, who is "N. L..." otherwise?

I have no idea why this game is so popular. I find this absurd with AI playing players out of position, rigid tactics and overall chaotic approach.

Play it and you will find out. We have put several square pegs in round holes. If you actually play the game, there is little more satisfying then taking a non league team to the PL. Most managers are honestly very good at exploiting your team's weaknesses etc.

I just think the AI is overwhelmed with the GOATs

This match?

It's N.Hidegkuti in the hole and the other match had him on the flanks. Couldn't find the match that you were referring to with N.L out wide.

Pretty much this. Every player is on steroids in this version so we are getting some insane results. Normal FM doesn't have anywhere near this many goals per game.

Agree

@Edgar Allan Pillow most games are 0-0s, 1-0s etc. typically. Honestly, it looks like the AI doesn't know what to do with all the incredible attackers.
