To be honest. The players are that good throughout there is no clear advantage to anybody.
To an extent, there will be no favourite and clear weak side and the winner of the league in a way will be a complete fluke.

And like I mentioned, I offered to pull out of this experiment before it started with somebody taking my place for this reason, but nobody wanted to before the deadline

no need mane, this isnt an attack on you, in fact i wish everyone was like you so i can pick all the players i want hehe
just curious to see where is the fun aspect in your game thats all

No ta, not even trying to find it. If people want to use it, no issues .... just personally, I like the fun of picking players from your own experience and living/dying by it.

Once I've picked another 14 attacking players, I'm on to 4 defenders and a goalie.

Yeah database or no database, there won't be much difference. They are all legends and rated how they should be. If you know how they play irl they should be closely matched in the database. It just makes it easier to find players for a specific position you might have forgotten etc.

It is very clear who is using the database and who is using their own knowledge tbh. I thought part of the fun was everybody not knowing who was good / not good but oh well

I don't think the issue is the obvious obscure gem-finding advantage but the insight into what the player actually looks like. I'm not fussed to miss out on players I never heard of or don't care for tbh, the shame is some players I do rate you are basically running blind, which would be absolutely fine if everyone else was. It's not about winning/losing but two absolute bummers:

1) I was keen on Mazzola as every reference I have indicates he would be great in my side. I assumed -given no one ever picks him- that a R6 pick or so would be reasonable (no way I was risking a very early pick on an experiment). R2 and off he goes

2) I will never be willing to pull the trigger as soon as others given the different level of insight. I've long come to terms with that. The issue I'm having now is with players that I would have expected to go by now and wonder whether there's something fundamentally wrong with them

My expectation though is that a lot of stats are probably randomised (the older the player the more likely as, frankly, you can't possibly know a lot of things to the level of detail FM demands). It's only the age/maturity thing really.

My problem is, as I stated before this draft began. I played a year of this game and actually offered to step away.
The thing is, considering my age, a lot of the players in my knowledge bank are 16/17 and are about 4 seasons away from actually being any good

It depends really. If you picked relatively well known players I don't think anyone would care. Maroso though is a bit of an Edwards case: both will be among the most experienced despite much of their rep coming from being a great talent cut short by tragedy. Will probably be older in game than they ever were!

No biggie anyway, I'm actually superhappy about all these randomers because it means my hit list stays intact. I'm not going to be taking random punts in the dark hoping to hit a jackpot and, to be honest, other than a few very well documented cases, I don't think oldies would work in a high press possession team. I've ditched the possession mindset but kept the passing, physical traits, tactical discipline and team-orientation that this requires.

Oldies that will definitely fit that? I can count them with my fingers. I'll probably pick a few I really rate if they don't get snatched away (ergo, probably shit) but I can't see how I can realistically go on a mad oldie spree.

Nobody's fault. I picked the manager and chose not to tinker with his surprisingly shit tactics. I had a chat with Johann earlier today asking him to give a bit of leeway with the recruitment, telling him the mechanics mean you can't win anything with kids, that our asses were on the line and we may get the sack by January...

Herbery Chapman for instance has 4231 and 442 listed.

I was going to get him last round but I couldn't think of a better partner for Rijkaard in a midfield duo than van Hanegem. Was also worried without Wim I would wind up with Baggio but no real connection in the middle.
