I actually thought that Crouch would suit this team like a glove. Midfielders will keep the ball for 85 minutes, then pass it to Garrincha, who'll dribble his way forward and back and forward again, a perfect cross... and Crouch is already doing his robotic dance.

Why I left you Rijkaard. For all their endless potential, I just couldn't envisage Trapattoni trusting a pair of 18-year-olds to run his midfield.

Seems you are not the only one, ridiculous how many options are still doing the rounds there. Surely if Messi is 18 Rijkaard is at least 20 though?
 
Went back and forth with this a zillion times. It seems I overlooked too many FM dynamics (inc. its database) and my expectations of the manager sim were misplaced. So feck picking for Cruyff (may well be out of a job in Jan) and feck trying to pick good defenders he isn't going to play anyway.

It's about time I start actually liking my team.

No matter what you do, basically assume fm will feck it up. Last fm experiment I had Messi, which my manager decided was best played as a b2b midfielder to accommodate fecking Giroud up front!.

Oh well, I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed the young 'uns play a blinder and keep things tight until they are truly ready.

The average oldie that is getting picked here would be exhausted by half time in the manic press I'm supposed to be playing. No idea what stamina the database gives them, but that's a fact. I took it as a given I would only be able to pick a few token oldies, largely as supersubs.

I got trapped in an attempt to give Cruyff players he would like for tactics I don't.

Good thing is I do like the players I picked so far. It's just I'm going to switch to ignoring who he would want and how he would like to play them. Surefire meltdown in the works, mind, but I have no love for tiki taka bollocks. Fact is, he didn't play tiki taka anyway.
 
I'm going to sleep will send my picks to Edgar and RedTiger as they are around now.
