Haven't studied Michels in great detail, but doesn't seem consistent with his Dutch side in 1974 or 1988. I don't think the editors have made all that much effort with the managers' preferred formations to be honest.Is "MC" Michael Carrick?

Yeah I have noticed that. I should gone through and done some QC on manager formations first but it didn't occur to me. I think the players are mostly accurate because its based on all the input into the PESstats but the Managers seem to have been added on just by the two editors of the FM database and their knowledge seems a bit limited.
I think it makes sense from FM perspective to give AI managers modern formations. Otherwise the game would have become too easy to beat when you sport a modern 4-3-3 and AI is playing archaic W-M formations.
Actually I think some of the odder formations can see crazy success although those are usually player micro-managed sides rather than the AI.

Yeah that only works usually when you can control the player roles, player instructions and more importantly the team instructions. Also on surface they seem like crazy formations but I found in practice they take shape of some variation of 4-2-3-1/3-5-2. For example in strikerless formations you are playing with Treraqusitas or shadow strikers etc. It would take some really detailed "thinking" from AI to get the formation and instructions right.

I have no clue about what Sacchi will do with these players. FM might as well throw Platini up front with Müller with Law on the bench.
It was mostly @mazhar13's choice, but the plan is (as Sacchi's in-game preferred formation is a diamond) for Platini to play no. 10, with Law and Muller up top. A varying mix of playing styles, but Law and Muller guarantee goals, and Platini is Platini. Then of course the 2 Brazilian fullbacks will offer good width for the narrow midfield.
Or the AI will balls it up and bench them all, but that's all part of the fun
