Don't think he'd been the worst player before the goal by any means, but he certainly wasn't helping knit things together like he had been in other matches.
Also I think England scoring after he goes off has been a massive coincidence. England haven't really played well at all for sustained periods in this tournament, relied on moments, and have plenty of good players to provide them.
