Fifth Ashes Test, Sydney

******gwood sledging Warne and Warne giving it back after hitting Panesar for 10 off 3 balls. Good stuff.

Gilchrist out. Terrible decision - ball nowhere near the bat. Shit happens.

What a bizarre dismissal Gilchrist! Sounded a muted yet drawn out appeal by England, I wasn't appealing thought it was a bump ball, Gilchrist wasn't going anywhere, then out of the blue Bowden gives it out. Then on the replay, doesn't look like he's even anywhere near it! Wheres your technology Wibble, sum that one up!

And clear up the Warne shout for me, did the ball make contact with Warnes gloves or not? What made the infra red thing go off?

On replay, he thumps the ground, hence what caused me to think there was a bump ball, but it does also clearly show he's not hit it. I fancy a few more decisions like that will even up the horrific decisions Strauss had taken this series...

The heat camera thingumy (I am assuming infra red) shows a white spot where the ball hits. On the Warne incident there wasn't a mark of any sort on the bat but there was small white spot on the glove suggesting that was the source of the sound.

The Gilchirst incident showed a white spot on the ground where the ball hit and nothing at all on the bat. Not that you would expect one from the normal replay. The bat was miles from the ball.

I suppose the only alternative to accepting the occasional dodgy call is allowing the 3rd umpire to be used more widely.

I'd bet that Strauss would vote for replays to be used. Poor sod got 3 shit descisons on the run wasn't it. 2 not outs and 1 probably not out. What happened to giving the benefit of the doubt to the batsman?

I'd introduce a little bit more technology into cricket, but it wouldn't have helped in either of these dubious cases today. I'd have someone else other than the umpire calling a no-ball or not, I think it's simply too difficult a job for the umpire to be watching for that and the other end. I'd also like something to tell if the ball pitched outside leg or not, when someone is given out that way it pisses me off like no over. Surely a quick press of a button from a 4th umpire watching these 2 aspects on a screen, that resulted in either a green or red light going off on a device the umpire was holding, would do the job? Would mean a player wouldn't get a call of 'no ball' where he could change his shot and try and twat the ball out of the ground freely, but I think that's a bit of a myth anyway, isn't enough time to do that.

By the way, does anyone else think David Gowers face is looking more and more like Richie Benaud?

I'd like to garotte Adam Gilchrist
I don't think anyone hits the ball as clean as him though. Splendid player.

Warne is going to get 100. It's in his script.

8/357 - Warne past 50.

Doubt his partners will hang around long enough for him to get 100 even assuming he doesn't get himself out with a wild slash.

I'm a fan of consistant streams of full tosses and yorkers to the tail, yet I have counted one yorker in the entire session since tea. Pathetic. England are losing the game right here and now. I think we need a 250 lead to win this, which 30 mins ago meant perhaps making 300 in our second innings, but suddenly requires something mammoth and perhaps incapable for this line up of batsmen.

Despite the tossing we've taken this series, I think this is the absolute most furious I've been, this is absolutely fecking disgraceful from England, they're throwing away what small chance they had of salvaging anything from this entire test series.

Warne is sledging the shit out of ******gwood.

"How's your MBE for getting 7, your an embarassment"

This can't be allowed to continue. How many runs have our bowlers gone for in the half hour or so, and it's growing.

Not to mention that run out that nearly was, oh by the....Harmison you had time enough damn it.

Clark out. I wonder if McGrath can last long enough for Warne to get a ton?

******gwood to catch Warne on, well 99 be the most cruel but not the best for England, how about the next ball then *anybody listening up there* please. :D

Can the real Andrew Strauss & Alastair Cook please stand up?

Oh you've gotta hope. :) Not the recent past, of England losing all their batsmen worth a damn before the day is out.

Get the smelling salts, the bucket of ice cold water, Srauss needs waking up. Jeez, that didn't sound nice.

He's carrying on but he'll be vulnerable for the next over or two, got to hold out.

Clearly feeling sorry for England after the way they bowled at him and the rest of the Aussie tail, he decided to gift us 12 runs in the form of 3 slow full tosses. Did it a few times in the first innings actually, not something I associate with him at all, maybe now and again but not consistantly. If he carries on bowling shit, and we manage to survive the pace bowling which will probably become less effective as spin becomes more important, maybe it's not game over after all.

The commentators on the BBC were specualting that he might have aggravated or got some kind of twinge in his shoulder maybe.

Strauss stuck it out and reached Tea which will be a boost for the team and him, we consolidated, now let's see if we can push on from here and create a decent platorm with our openers for once.

You know the footwork of some of our leading batsmen has been just wretched this series, and last summer too if i remember right.
