Gaming Fifa 2009

Long time Pro Evo player here. I was having high hopes for fifa 08, but from playing the demo I was extremely disappointed. Ridiculously poor AI, keepers with inhuman reflexes and crosses that felt.. wrong, ruined it completely.

After trying this year's demo, I went and bought fifa 09 (first time I've bought a fifa game in.. 10 years or so). And what a gem it is! Pro Evo is still better in some respects (why doesn't defenders come up for corners!), but I've never had this much fun with a football game since I first tried Pro Evo 8 years ago, and as a complete package I'd say fifa is the better game this time. Well done EA.

Anyway, I'm playing Be a Pro and am a bit dumbfounded by some of the attributes. For instance, will increasing the 'vision' do anything? What about aggresion and the rest of the mental stats? Also, what use is Agility?

I have no actual facts, but I always completely reduce the mental and goalkeeping stats. Agility seems to me to be tied into balance and ball control, how quick you can turn, that sort of thing.

Has anyone noticed it being slightly shitter since they updated it, on 360 anyway...

Aggression i think has something to do with reaching for balls, sort of like a desire to reach the ball i think.

Agility as said above helps balance and ball control.

I think I just saw the worst possible miss. By anyone. Anywhere.

I was playing Portsmouth (Online), and I made a terrible, terrible mistake. I sent my keeper out to get a too-long ball by the opposition, and by some freak occurrence Peter Crouch got a hold of it, and made his way towards my goal. Keep in mind that this was directly in front of the goal, and my keeper and a couple of defenders were desperately chasing him. He could have literally passed the ball into the net.

I guess he decided to be a bit cheeky, so he wanted to run the ball into the goal. Well, he hit the post. Unfortunately for him, Peter Crouch went into the goal, while ball bounced just enough out for my keeper to pounce on it.

This was early in the game, and I think it might have affected his confidence. Wonder why

Just registering my frustrations here.

It seems to me that when increasing the difficulty of the game something weird happens. Your team-mates are suddenly shit, and the opponents are much better. Now I can understand the opponents being better, but why the feck does my entire team now seem to be made up of 1-legged spastics without brains? On the standard (or whatever) difficulty Being A Pro is easy as hell. Your team-mates pass the ball to you when your in space, make intelligent runs and put away the perfect crosses you put in. They even create goals between eachother!

But as soon as the difficulty is ramped up to Pro, everyone seems to forget how to play! They don't make the runs, their idea of dribbling is to run directly at an opponent and awkwardly falling over (which is also their tactic when facing the goalkeeper in a 1-on-1 situation, strangly) and they laugh at scorn at me calling for the ball in space, preferring to boot the ball 50 yards ahead of Ji-Sung Park. Why?

Am I just shit, or does anyone else have this impression?

EDIT:
Also, call me a universal tosser, but when I'm a CM shouldn't I actually be played in this position? Instead, I seem to have gravitated to the role of Offensive Left Winger/Defensive Midfielder. When in attack, the game furiously detract points of me because of my horrible lack of positioning having chased Theo Walcott down to the cornerflag (and tackling the cnut, mind). And in defence, it yells at me for being to offensive having gone on another 90 yard run in a vain hope to actually get the ball for once, when in fact I should have been way down in the right hand corner attempting to extrude the ball from between the legs of Samir Nasri.

/rant

I think the off the ball running and defending from the computer isn't as good as it used to be. Obviously the bug where its kicked over the top and the defender / striker is a bug and the main point but their are other situations where I am left frustrated by the computer.

If only I could control everyone at the same time! :D

Off the Ball runs from FIFA 04 and 05 allowed you to take control of two players at once using the right analogue stick, they were great.

Yeah the offensive left winger position is so frustrating, far too much running involved. If you are not better then what they currently have then obviously they arent going to replace their CM's straight away. Usually you will be getting first team appearances before you're rated higher then some reserve midfielders (depending on team). Obviously if you're a CM and you become first choice your going to overtake the lesser statted player. E.g i have become the holding midfielder for Arsenal despite being far better at Fabregas' position. What i dont like is now that Fabregas is injured (and they don't seem to come back from Injury untill next season) i dont get to be the advanced midfielder and im playing behind Denilson.

My next BAP is going to be Ramsey, Theo or Vela i think.

Well I don't get played in my bloody position, ever. Last one I was CAM (central attacking midfielder, I presumed, stupidly) and I was played at Offensive Left Winger-shit until I got sick and fecking tired of it and decided to create a new one. This time I cunningly went for CM thinking that there is no way they can kick me out on the wing this time. But no :/

The problem isn't playing at the wing, I can play there fine. I made a player in the Norwegian league as a right winger and I'm now a regular at that position at Bayern. But it's set up all wrong! Viewing the pitch from one goal to the other, why do I have to be at the left tip of their box in attack, and suddenly be at the right tip of my teams box in about 1/10 of a second? How can I accomplish this? Is there some sort of Teleport-ability that I have yet to discover?

Having now whinged myself inside-out at the game, I'm now going to bed and probably oversleep for school tomorrow. It's not that it isn't fun, but it is also immensely frustrating at times. The ammount of anger I'm able to direct at inanimate objects astonishes me sometimes. I sit here yelling at the TV knowing full well that nothing will come of it. I wonder what my housemates think when they hear me cursing and shouting in my room?

Rosicky, hleb and Nasri are also central players... If yo uwant to play your position go to team that will let you. Just like people have to do in real life.

Goalkeepers are my only major beef with this game - apart from that its excellent imo.

Especially considering i was a pro fan before this Fifa.

I was playing AGAINST arse btw ;)

But of course the same is true at United, where there are many good central midfielders.

Be a shit team :p I'm currently playing for Hartlepool reserves and first team, they just keep swapping me. Going to have to check the dates and stuff to see if I'm playing twice a week or just one week in one and one in the other heh

Here's a tip for you guys struggling. I'm in my second season as possebom started as a 69 rating now a 74. As expected united put me out on the left wing and brazil has me on the right most times. I've netted 10x for utd in my current campaign and just picked up a hatrick and a 9.9 rating for brazil.

-negative position and negative defense mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. I put my winger up as a third striker and have them feed me through balls for 1 vs 1 with the goalies. Using this method my avg rating is 8.3 and when i play normally roaming the wing it's 7.8.

The glitch were your player turns sidewards/backwards while chasing a through ball is driving me crazy. I've conceded so many goals because of this bollox, and of course I've been denied the chance to score them too.

fecking EA - they need to sort this out ASAP, it ruins such a great game.

I agree, when round my mates we've figured out, if you're player is starting his little turn like a ballerina, you have enough time to stand up and do a twirl and sit back down, before your player will react normally. Always do this now.

I have just set up my tenth be a pro season, and finally am getting a run in the reserves. Previously I have been put straight in to the first team after one match, even when I have selected a 16 year old who is about 20 points behind the next worst player.

Scored 3 in 3 for Reading

Sick of perfect balls through on be a pro only for my strikers to feck off out to the wings with it. feckin stupid.

Previous to this last game, my only Free Kick goal was a 35 yarder, to win the game no less. This time, 1-0 down completely outplayed by Arsenal, Freekick in the 80th minute from just outside the box followed by a Penalty and Rooney break to win it. Felt soooo good.

I love the different feel you get playing for different teams on be a pro.

Started out as a midfield warrior for the mighty Cobh Ramblers, and had a tough time of it considering no-one (including me) knew where on the fecking pitch you were supposed to be all the time. After one season I transferred to Forest, and what a difference! Having team mates who know where to position themselves makes a world of difference. A few bugs aside (and what I assume is a lack of football knowledge on the part of the developers in certain aspects of the game), the AI has really impressed me.

New Live update is available.

Rooney is a 94 and Berbatov a 93
Ronaldo back to 89, Nani to 84, Giggs an 87

Tevez down to 80, not sure how that works since he has barely played.

Fletcher up to 83, JOS an 81, Rafael to 75, Gibson has randomly gone up.

Started a new Live Season with my created player. I'm a pacey striker in the Sunderland reserves.

Anyone else having trouble signing in to EA, pretty much all the time now?

At first I never had a problem. This past week it's hardly let me sign in at all.

Kay nevermind, worked now.

Rafael may be up to 75, but unfortunately thats his top rating for this version of Fifa (top form) and I just mullered United with him playing right back, with Valencia.

Helps that Vicente is rated at 87 this week, despite only coming on as a sub in this weekend's game. He's somehow rated even above Mata. Oh well.

Rafael even scored an own goal :(

Okay, I don't know why, but my BAP game just became ridiculously easy. Alright, it's on Pro, so it was kinda easy to begin with, but this is a bit over the top. I scored 60-something goals in the first season, as a striker, but that was in the Norwegian league, which isn't very impressive. Now I just got transferred to Lyon for my second season, and in my first game I scored 6 goals. Second I scored 14. In a 5 minute per half match :wenger:

Then play on World Class or legendary :smirk:

MSN review on Pro Evo 2009

Judgement
Konami have gone back to the drawing board and largely fixed the many issues that blighted last year’s game. However, in the face of competition from EA’s blinding FIFA 09, PES is fast becoming the Liverpool of footy titles – living on past glories and now falling just short of greatness year on year.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Arsenal has Clichy to 88

Nasri to 89

RVP to 90

Fabregas down to 83

Theo up to 86

Tweet to 81

Wilshere randomly went up to 73

Song down to 69

Does anyone actually change their formations and stuff based on these stats.

I know last week i had Adebayor and Bendtner up front with Vela on the left

This week It will be Fabregas and Denilson in the middle with Walcott on the right and Nasri on the left. Van persie and Adebayor up front with Toure - Tweet in the middle and eobue, clichy backs.

I've been on this game for 2 days solid since getting it on Monday.

They've somehow managed to better FIFA 2008, which I previously deemed impossible.
