This is starting to seriously piss me off. After I just beat some guy playing Liverpool 3-2 (he was in the lead in the 77th minute), the disc becomes 'unreadable', again literally the second the ref blows the final whistle. I'm pretty sure this one will also count as me quitting (0-3 to him and higher "DNF" % for me.
I might just have to buy a new game alltogether. Which is really fecking annoying, since apparently console-users are stupid and don't realize they have been fed ridiculously high game prices for years.

But when it happens when I'm winning, and particularly against Liverpool, that is dangerously close to putting me over the edge. I can't not buy a new FIFA09 either, since it's pretty much the reason I got this god forsaken console in the first place.

niMic you need to send your xbox back to get its DVD drive replaced. This used ot happen to me as well, only with Fifa games (world cup and fifa 07), nothing else. I sent it back, they replaced the drive, all good!
It turns out that where I had auto growth on, all of my players became super human Patrice Evra clones within the space of a season, which is pretty fecking stupid.
I started another league, and turned auto growth off. It's better, but it's still pretty easy, and it's not as fun spanking teams on FIFA as it used to be on Pro Evo.
Maybe I'm just not into computer games enough anymore

It's letting me online today, said theres a new Live update. Can't tell if anythings changed because I can't remember what the last update was. Rooney is a 94 though.
Have the same problem with recurring unreadable disc. Also only when I'm playing FIFA. Have thought of switching to PS3 for this reason only
Yeah, that's it. There was a rather large scratch in it, as well as a few smaller ones. I took it back to the store though, and the guy ran it through a machine that "removes" part of plastic part of the disc, where it was scratched. It worked better, but not perfect, so I took it back again and he ran the 'light' version. But still it won't work.
It's fine for offline play, manager mode, etc. But it's very inconvenient if I play online and it can quit at any moment, giving me a 0-3 loss and making me look like a quitter.
I might just suck it up and get a new game. Playing online was very fun, particularly with my wonder-tactic (except against Barcelona, where it's crap).
It's the disc drive. it needs to be replaced by M.S stop wasting your time with bandaid solutions and just get it done.

I have said already (As have others) i had this same problem, sent the console back to MS and never had an issue since. Get them to swap the DVD drive out.

any tips on how to score from a freekick or overhead kick?
Well with Ronaldo, if you hold down L1/LB it makes his freekicks alot more realistic and harder, but you must hold down the shoot button for longer than usual. when you do this it looks fecking mint
It's really, really easy to score a freekick if you're relatively close. Well, maybe not really easy, but it doesn't take much. Just aim for the side the keeper isn't on, hold down LB and release almost exactly when it reaches yellow.
