Gaming Fifa 10

So pro will be where it's at again then?

Not sure I'd say that. Only played the demo once, and was reasonably impressed, but last year it got shown up a bit.

Don't listen to all the Fifa fan boys in here though. This game isn't the new messiah of football simulation. It's a shameful attempt to gloss off last year's Fifa without focusing on any of it's weaknesses.

Players aren't individuals. There's literally feck all effort been put into making one player's style different from another's.
They seem to have fecked up the first touch right analogue stick thing, which I always thought worked pretty well
The ball magically attaches itself to players feet, all the time. It looks silly.
The muscle people off the ball thing has been so over implemented it's just fecking stupid
goalkeepers still frequently save the ball in ways you just never see happen in real life.
It's even faster than that insanely fast Pro Evo from a couple of years back (I forget which one that was).
The game itself hasn't been improved on at all. The same menu screens, graphics, pre-game entrances, gameplay...it's all exactly the fecking same. In terms of realism if anything it's gone backwards.
What kills it for me, is that all you have to do to pull of impossiblyamazing shots/passing moves is press buttons aimlessly. It gets dull so quickly.

Played it for an hour or so last night, and literally every single goal scored was too silly to be possible in real life.
- SWP booted the ball at my keeper when he had an open goal, then the ball rolled back to him, and suddenly appeared behind his other foot so he could pointlessly backheel blast it into the corner.
- Fletcher appeared up front and tackled a defender, by running past him and sticking his foot out, causing the ball to somehow gravitate along the outside of his foot and end up in front of him
- I crossed a ball in and aimlessly pressed the shoot button. Park ran in and instead of heading it, magically caressed the ball down from head height onto his chest, and volleyed it into the top corner.
- Berbatov slide tackled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the area

I wouldn't say it's a massive improvement on 09 really. The only thing that's better is the passing and off the ball movement. A couple of nice animations here and there, but nothing to write home about. I'd definitely say it isn't more realistic than 09.

EA really need to improve the graphics for FIFA 11. They are quite shocking in comparison to other next-gen games. It looks like a cartoon at times.

Am i the only one who feels this is a build behind the demo?

I think i'm going to fire the demo up and compare.

In fairness they don't have much competition.

The passing feels better - the passes have zip on them without you leaning the entire weight of your body onto the pass button.

Shooting is more realistic, in that you are actually capable of low and powered shots (as opposed to low and placed).

On the other hands, keepers are still shite like in the demo, the new physical jostling aspect is amazingly poorly implemented, and they've not come good on making spoeed not the main determinant in who can win online - it's just that now you need to be fast and strong to do unusually well (Eto'o is the worst offender here - he's like Usain Bolt crossed with the Hulk).

As for United, none of our strikers are fast, and none of them are really any good at holding off challenges. Our defenders are on the whole slow - playing online you'll find most poeple go Barca, Real or City and play endless through balls to strikers that leave our defenders for dead, even if Ferdinand, Vidic, et al have a head start.

Seriously, why does everyone think this game is so good?

I could understand last year, as it was such a big improvement on previous efforts.

This isn't though, and it's not exactly hard to see

In comparison to the majority of other next-gen games, the graphics are pretty poor in my opinion. Load up the PES2010 demo, and then fire up Fifa 10. The graphics look awful.

EA seem to have nailed the gameplay this year. Now I reckon they should focus on improving the graphics.

NOw that is a concern!
I'm just wondering though is it the actual game that's flawed overall, or is it the stats of the players which are letting people down, i.e perhaps Carrick's strength is not as much as it should be, along with Rooney and Rio's pace?

I thought in the demo the pitch size was good, but was that cause it was Wembley that I played at?

Basically, is it better and more realistic than 09?

I found that the pushing and physicality was far less cartoonish in the full version than the demo, which I was pleased with.

And I certainly got one game where Fletcher was my best, looking very characteristic.

I've been chuffed about how Manchester United-like play I've managed in the past few versions of FIFA.

Most most important bit and glad to hear that..

and please tell me that remains the case in this version as well?

I've also noticed in the couple of games I played last night that Valencia tracked back so far. He was basically playing as a wing-back.

Can one of you cuntos review this game? A balanced review would be nice.

FIFA 10 is good, but not an improvement over FIFA 09.

Direct running with Valencia works good for me, and Fletcher is fairly good winning the ball, controlling it and passing it... I had one brilliant attack where he won it in midfield, made a run and sent it to Valencia, kept it up, and I crossed it thinking he was gonna get on the end of it. He headed it just over :\

But looked very much like the sort of thing our new Darren "I'm gonna make more runs into the box" Fletcher would do.

Favourite moment of last night's gaming session: Having Scholes on the ball on the bottom part of my own half, on the left hand side... looking to pick out Park about 60 yards ahead on the right wing. I held the through pass plus L1 button and held it for a while, and sent a pass that looked just like Scholes ala 06/07. I nearly lost it, cause I've never done that before on a footy game, not that convincingly.

You've sort of reignited my excitement for the game then, which is commendable reading some of the stuff I've read so far here... and I can't wait till its released in my neck of the woods!

Some people are ridiculously critical. I was a fair bit of tipsy last night, mind, and I loved FIFA 09 as well so... *shrugs*

Best footy simulator in town ;)

Of course it's not the real deal. Proper football has too many fecking nuances to put into a game. We're all spoilt if this is a SHITE simulator ;P

You'll have fun, I'm sure ;)

Some people are being a bit *too* critical, yes it's flawed and not a massive improvement, but it's different and adds new things, I'm enjoying playing it and I'll be playing a hell of a lot of it.

Graphics: Same as FIFA09

Sound: Same as FIFA09

Gameplay: Strength based players is stupid and poorly implemented. Otherwise, the exact same

Overall: I payed $80 for new skins and rosters, and the added ability of Adebayor being able to from kickoff push over Carrick, Vidic and O Shea and then score.

There's no thumbs up/agreement smiley, Sharky. If there was I'd have used it a couple of times.

That about sums it up.

Except I didn't pay for it :D

I haven't played the full version yet so it could possibly be the shite half-arsed game people are making it out to be, but one thing I'll say is that when Pro Evo 5 and 6 came out, people were a bit iffy about them and didn't see any improvement, even suggesting they'd gone backwards, but after a few weeks everyone's loving it. Perhaps it may be a similar situation here but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I played it over at a mate's last night for a couple hours. It was loads of fun, but then again, so is most games when you're playing with two controllers.

We only played online, and despite passing the ball around better than any of the tards we met, we still managed to lose 8 out of 9 games because we have no idea on how to defend.

Defending with two people is hard, as you both tend to rush towards the ball and leave the defence wide open. When a friend and I played together online we just called out if we were going to go towards the ball and the other one would just sit back.

Yes, and I said as much after I had just gotten my hands on the game. The demo felt... better.

Up for a couple of games at like 9ish UK time? Might be even earlier? I'll go a worse team than you to even it out as it was a bit unfair of me yesterday. (I'm coming across as an arrogant cnut, sorry mate!)

I'm definitely up for some games, but I insist you play as an equally good team, and to the best of your abilities. I'm going to beat you eventually!

I just need to learn how to defend again. :nervous:

:p You were doing a couple of dangerous passes around your back four yesterday. Similar to Rio against Shitty :annoyed:

So I played this earlier.

It's EXACTLY the same as Fifa 09. I mean, it actually is the same game, right down to the menu screens. It's embarrasing.

and realistic my arse. The ball physics belong to the Sega Megadrive era, as do the player abilities. The only difference between any of the players is that the ones with better stats run faster and are less crap at shooting. The first two goals I scored involved the ball jolting itself magically across the floor in order to appear at a player's foot as he kicked it. It's just so incredibly lazy and generic....You're all a bunch of mugs.

Wont be wasting anymore of my time on this. Here's hoping Pro Evo can salvage itself this year

Didn't bother reading after here, as this statement is complete bollocks.

It is an improvement....but it's not that much of an improvement. It's eerily similar to the 'minor' updates made to PES every year that eventually saw it over taken
