Fernando Torres to.....?

Why does everyone think Drogba and Torres would be such a good combo? They would end up playing one of them on the wing where they would be wasted.

Have Chelsea well and truly ditched their diamond now then?

I think eventually he ll end up there....financially even Chelski cannot compete with them atm

I don't know, no doubt about it, the owners will sell to whoever pays the most, I suspect Torres will want more than just money, so he could say no to that

You're right, and in the league we weren't beaten. Hence the name/legend.

No idea what the name is.

But despite you being unbeaten in the league, you were not unbeatable that season, as proven by, among others, Manchester United.

For a continental player, there is not much else to chose between citeh and chelski except for the money.

Before Abramovic took over, chelski were the southern version of Citeh...few outside britain knew about them.

forget the money...there's a massive difference in location/area/lifestyle. if your going to play for a plastic club, might as well as play for one in one of the nicest areas of one of the few world class cities on the planet...instead of somewhere grim as feck.

Chelsea had finished consistently in the top six for five years before Abramovich has bought the club - 5th in 98/99, 3rd in 99/00, 5th in 00/01, 6th in 01/02 and 4th in 02/03. We had won the FA Cup in 2000 and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1998.

In that time period we also had top class players in our team like Vialli, Gullit, Desailly, Zola etc.

Not exactly the stuff of legends, but comparisons to City circa summer 2008 are wide of the mark.

Torres to Chelsea I reckon. They are going to be unbeatable with him and Drogba together.

Dont panic, without the decisions they got last year they wouldnt be champions, Terry Lampard and Drogba are also approaching the sell buy date

Plus the immediate ability to challenge for the Premier League title and also for the Champions' League.

Roy Hodgson says there is nothing more he can do to keep Fernando Torres at Liverpool

Star striker Fernando Torres could well be on his way out of Anfield, according to new Reds' boss Roy Hodgson.

There has been speculation over Torres' Liverpool future, ever since he said in March, "What is important is the club makes a big effort and brings great players that are above the quality of the squad."

Despite signing Joe Cole last week and the assumption that Steven Gerrard will now stay at Liverpool, Hodgson has now indicated it is unlikely that 26-year-old Torres will stay at Anfield.

Hodgson told the News of the World, "Unfortunately, I cannot do much more...His beef is with the club and not me.

"Fernando's situation has nothing to do with me, he made that perfectly clear over the phone during the World Cup and when I met him face-to-face.

"He knows what I would like to do with the club. He knows how much I value him.

"But his issues are with what has gone on in the past rather than the future. If he has problems with the club for things in the past, it is difficult for me to dismiss that."

Chelsea are thought to be prepared to offer up to £70million for Spanish hit man Torres, who has been outstanding in his three seasons at Liverpool, scoring an impressive 22 goals in an injury-plagued season last term, despite playing only thirty games.

Looking like Hodgson his expecting bad news.

Great player and all, but if they were to get anywhere in the region of £70m they should cackle all the way to the cashpoint.

is it always about the money though? What player would want to move to liverpool knowing they sold their best player because they needed the cash, and could not match his ambition.

Ronaldo left United, but it was not because we needed the money, or he was unhappy with the way direction of the club, or internal strife.

This would seriously hurt the reputation of Liverpool as a club. Despite being a sicknote, I'd still have that girly wuss in a United kit anytime. 22 goals in 30 matches, that kind of class is not easily found or replaced.

Torres was always wasted on Liverpool. Nothin' new there.

If he gets the chance to leave, he should. Money or not, that club has destroyed the soul of many a player.

Liverpool has got 4 (?)players that could go equal with the best squads around, and they're hardly playing each game. If Torres stays he won't win ONE SINGLE THING IN HIS CAREER, and that's not even trying to be funny.

He's got a World Cup - it probably reminded him of a lifetime love of shiny things.

The problem for Liverpool in trying to get top money is that there aren't that many teams that Torres would want to go to. His Atletico connections make Real unlikely. Barcelona only paid 35m for Villa and don't need another striker (Zlatan / Torres swap seems unlikely - what's in it for Zlatan?) The Italian clubs are all worrying about money. He'll be in too much hurry for City.

Hodgson sounds like he wants to sell soon, while he's still got a chance to buy - not the easiest negotiating position.

:nervous:

As if Woy Hodgeson says 'beef'!

And as if Chelsea are going to pay £70m for a player they know is made of glass!
