Fergie to let Rooney go?

Part of me is hoping this is true.

The other part of me slaps the first part for being stupid. But maybe only to cover up it's own doubts...

Doubt it. When we let Ronaldo go, it was always with the idea that Rooney would step up and be our marquee player, talisman or whatever. I'm certain that if Rooney's let go, we will be in a top class talen to fill that void.

Don't bet on it.

Some bloke on Twitter (great source, I know) reckons a joint denial from the club & Roo is imminent.

Rooney update: Told to expect imminent official joint statement from #mufc and Wayne Rooney denying Indy story.

I would not be shocked to hear "the only players who can be an improvement for us are unavailable. "

We can not lose Rooney.

He's not some source buddy, he was the first one who broke Rooney-Fergie axed story of blackburn. Usually reliable.

Utd will be issuing a statement shortly denying that they're ready to sell Wayne Rooney
From Dan Roan

I might get plenty of stick for saying that but if the money was to be re-invested then selling him at the end of season wouldn't be the end of the world. We'd still be left with Berbatov, Welbeck and Hernandez who are all reliable forwards, and we could address other deficiences in our current team, although I don't think we'd get a fortune for him right now - £40m max.

Is it unusual for United to publicly deny press rumours?

Why do we have to come out and deny it? Don't we usually just ignore bullshit like this?

Probably because another storm could be created by this article. Better to kill it off before it spreads.

The story will obviously run with him leaving in summer, not January. A big headline with general speculation fueled by the recent stories with Rooney, guaranteed to sell papers now with a small possibility of it coming true later. I bet this piece wouldn't have even have ran, had the training bit not happened.

Stories only get ignored when they are bullshit.

Rubbish, United didn't said a word when Rooney failed to sign a contract, United issued a statement stating they aren't interested in Joe Cole.

The joint statement is a bit odd though...I didn't expect a response that quick, or one at all.

They probably just want to nip this one in the bud ahead of this weekend's match. The last Rooney saga just got noisier and noisier until the club were forced into making a statement (although obviously in that case there was truth to it).

Most rumours if ignored will just go away but I expect Fergie knows this one won't unless a denial is made.

On Sky news now.

I find it hard to cheer on Rooney these days. He's a horrible scummy little man and he doesn't give a shit about United.

Have to say that the timing of this is very convenient with a huge match at the weekend.

Would you link me to his twitter, please?

Same, could be down to the hoopla around Rooney lasting a week or so now and the club just want to put it behind them.

Rooney's round at SAF's washing his cars, having just seen the story on twitter he popped outside and told him they're putting a statement out.

I'm thinking there is that and with the game coming up, perhaps they don't want to entertain any speculation at all, and put it down quickly with a public statement. But then, that is rare, considering the ridiculous amount of stories that run on our players.

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Providing we got an adequate replacement of course. What he did last year, still doesn't sit well with me. He clearly thinks he's the talisman of the team, so therefore he can make demands of the club and behave however he likes. He's not bigger than the club and for the record, we've had much better talisman's over the years.
