Fellaini

More laughable still are the favourable comparisons with Keane, Schweinsteiger and Yaya.

Exactly. All were/are brilliant footballers with so much more to there games than power and strength. Absolutely ridiculous comparisons.

 Could only laugh. Thiago and Fabregas to Fellaini.

To compare him to Toure is an insult also. Toure has much more to his game to just "bullying the shit out of the opposition".

I know he does, we didn't really know what Toure was capable of until he joined City though. We thought he was a holding midfielder, with better players around him Fellaini would have a lot to offer in my opinion.

Was the poster above actually comparing him to Keane and Bastian? I dont think so. He only said the likes of them dont even play tika taka but still get the job done and as a result he feels Fellaini could be the same. Nothing special but still getting the work done.

I'm not unhappy with signing Fellaini, in fact I think he could be a fantastic player given the right players around him. However I would be disappointed if he was the only midfielder we signed.

If we sign him I'm sure a lot of those who have laughed at that potential pursuit will eat their words in due course

Doubt he'll be the only signing though

Don't think we'll sign him, all indications are that we have no intention to do so. He's nailed on to sign for us just like Strootman was

It's a litmus test for Moyes. Signing Fellaini means he's not up to managing Man Utd.

I'd be happy enough for the signing of Fellaini, he'll give us more options.

If we do go for him, it's fairly obvious he was our go to guy if all else fails.

Either that or we were waiting 'til we'd signed a bigger name first, which has failed.

Fellaini would be quite a letdown from Fabregas AND Ronaldo, but it wouldn't signal the demise of Manchester United Football Club. In the absence of hauling in both Fabregas and Ronaldo we were never going to lift the CL trophy in May of 2014, but we're still a very legitimate contender to retain the prem trophy. Our opposition has geared up, no question about it, but we've still got a fantastic squad.

My main worry, however, is Rooney.

It would not have surprised me if the Fellaini deal was done & dusted a while ago. They dont want to have Felliani as Davey's first signing when all the rumours was that he will sign a mega-star first. Creates a negative impression that his reach is within the NW only.

Varela was his first signing. :boring:

Maybe Fellaini wouldn't be much of an upgrade after all?

He definitely would. (Song)

Anyway back to the game, Valencia's midfielders (not even first choice) are finding avenues to bypass him in midfield with passes

Jonas just made him a mug, going past him twice. He tried it a third time then Fellaini managed to poke the ball away but only to a Valencia player who shot

Unfortunately I think this will happen, just hope another midfielder like Fabregas or Modric come in as well. Luckily the Mirror report about us giving up on Fabregas was written by John Cross, an Arsenal supporter who was writing similar things last summer about our pursuit of RVP, I think he wrote something about him turning us down in the morning papers, on the day he signed:lol:

I really can't make my mind up about Fellaini. Some days I'm open to his signing, others I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

I just don't think he's mobile enough to be a central midfielder, we'll soon find out by the looks of things:nervous:

I don't believe we have hit the desperation levels to actually fork over £23M for such a bang average player.

I'd assume if we were interested we'd utilise him as a big lump in front of the back four, negating his lack of mobility.

I guess signing him wouldn't be too bad, as long as nobody actually thinks he will solve our midfield problem or bring it to anywhere near the level of Barca, Bayern or Madrid. Signing Fellaini would just be papering over some of the cracks, though I guess that's better than nothing. Hopefully we can still get better players though.

Half time now, the only things he's actually done defensively were win a header from a corner and get beaten twice on the edge of the box by skill from Jonas, then when he tries to go past him again Fellaini gets a toe on it. Other than that he's just got behind the ball a few times.

On the ball he looks a lot more interested. His passing has been fine but not creative, just simple ones.

It looks like it might have been decided that Gibson sits and does more of the defending while Fellaini joins in more going forward
