Fellaini

We have to take into account that Everton bought him for €22m (around £15m at the time). So I wouldn't say £22m is that unacceptable after five successful seasons in the PL.
Moyes overpaid for him once at £15M and will probably do so again at £22/23M.

Not the full story. Our defence was constantly exposed.

Actually it was miles better than the previous season with Anderson and Cleverley in midfield where we let the opposition have more shots against us than almost every other team in the league. It was a real concern then.

Last season we conceded the 8th least shots on goal per match, one place behind Chelsea. Man City had the 2nd least shots on their goal. It can be improved of course, having our best CB available for more of the season and Rio not having an awful spell would obviously help a lot

Can you post the source? I'd like to see who was better than us. (nearly half the frigging league)

Btw 10 of our 15 clean sheets in the league last season came since the turn of the year, showing that we improved a lot in that aspect in the 2nd half of the season, around the same time Rio was suddenly being talked about as doing well and suggestions he needed to be back in the England team. If I recall Carrick was also playing better than in the first half of the season

His clause expires next week no? I reckon if Moyes had even wanted him in the first place, he would have done so earlier and taken him on the tour. So i think he should be safely off our shopping list

I don't know why you're focusing on Rio. Vidic was injured in the first half of the season, the wolves were after DeGea, and we were seeing relegation fodder waltz through our team.

De Gea? He was one of our best players. You're thinking of the wrong season

Rio was poor at the start of the season

Every player is over priced when we talk millions but in the current English transfer market I'd consider 22m a good price.

August 1st apparently. Gives me hope that we'll get someone else and not him :)

In what world is Fellaini a clown? Apart from his sideshow bob hair that is

Oh please! Redcafe is not the place to worry about the accuracy of my use of language. Clearly he's a decent player. I was just trying to illustrate my feelings towards him as a player. I just don't like the idea of investing so much in him - he's just a spoiler. Arguably his greatest Everton performance was the opening game of last season when he was basically employed to bully us. I think we can do so much better.

Ekeke, Verminater is correct, DDG was widely criticised in the first half of the season - it came to a head when we drew 1-1 at Spurs.

Sure. I'm not in the habit of watching Everton that regularly. Are you denying that was one of his stand out performances?

It was overrated by miles if you're looking at a players overall performance. He just used abilities which destroyed United, but his overall play wasn't as excellent as it has been in other games. But when you're playing as an 'attacking' player and against a big club you'll always stand out more than a defensive player who consistently performs. Sad truth within the media and fans nowadays, who prefer the goals and "skillzzzzzzzz" rather than some excellent, gritty, hard work.

There was a poll on an Everton forum in June this year, where it was asked where they'd prefer Fellaini to play. 94 voted CM, and 8 voted behind the striker. So people who watch him week in, week out would rather him play in CM.

Says a lot about how good we rate him in CM when he was rated as the second coming within the media for his performances in the AM/Target man role.

I'm confused, have we been linked with him in any way at all or are people's "certain we're going to sign him thoughts" based purely on speculation?
Moyes managed him. Of course were going to sign. Infact every summer well sign one Everton player after our fake attempts at signing world class players fail.

I'm not disputing any of that. But I don't think he's good enough for United. Or rather, he's not good enough to play the type of football that United do. What's your thoughts - am I being harsh in that judgment?

I disagree, the only posters on here blaming him were the idiots most people ignore. Rio's performances were statistically under par in the first half of the season, however.

He'd definitely improve our midfield, no doubt about it. A lot of people are only interested in skillful midgets from the continent though, hence the disappointment.

I'd say a lot of United fans overrated DDG at the beginning of the season, despite a few errors, because they wanted to defend their own. He was much better as the season went on.

De Gea made some mistakes at the start of the season, it's hilarious how people refuse to acknowledge it. Only one person was saying we need another keeper most who thought he made a few mistakes just accepted that he's a young keeper who needed abit more time.

Sometimes I think De Gea could score a hattrick of own goals and someone would try and blame a defender.

We defended him, because we could see what a player he would become.
The media looked for any opportunity to slate him, so they could see him fail.
He should probably have been rated somewhere in between (for the first half)

He shut them all up, in the second half of the season.

Ferdinand's statistical match ratings

After 6th match this season (7.10.12) where Rio had played well so far and was always 7+ :

6.42
7.16
6.64
6.6
6.3
6.72
7.44
6.1
6.47
6.4
6.89
6.92
6.9
6.89
6.27

7.59 vs Fulham on 2.2.2013, mostly better performances from then on and thats about the time Rio's performances were being talked up till the end of the season.

I remember keeping track of it at the time. Rio's ratings were low because he didnt make many tackles, interceptions, clearances or blocks. Evans was forced to do most of this work. And Rio not helping him out much directly contributes to having more shots on our goal. The work was clearly there to be done, Evans managed plenty but Rio did not. Statistically his overall season performance was only a small amount better than Smalling, despite Rio having some fine form at the end of the season that got people talking about him.

De Gea was pretty good from the off, it was only the journos out for a shit-stirring story.

Agree. It was another Nani story, where a player the media had decided wasnt good enough had to play a year or more of very good performances before they got off his case and gave him some credit. Finally at the end of the season they decided he was ok

Ekeke will argue that black is white and never, ever back down so save yourself the time, effort and frustration.

It always amazes me how much sense you talk about United, compared to some of our own fans.

When you're not being a wummy big shite, that is.

To be fair, De Gea has a huge fanbase on the Caf. He deserves it but don't say we don't rate him.

Excuses for a poor argument. You're projecting

I have never seen you concede a point on this forum ever.

I guess everyone you go up against just has a poorly thought out argument then.

Up against? What is this, internet warrior of the year or something?

I guess you just dont read my posts very well. I've been wrong and admitted it more times than I can keep count of
