Fellaini

If we end up with Baines and Afro from Moyes old club its going to be such a let down. We're never going to outgun the top clubs for the top players at big fees, as we never do, surely though we could have gotten a Barca reseerve player and do better than Fellani?

If Moyes buys him then shunts Kagawa to the bench or our technical players it'll be tough to take. Losing Fergie bad enough.

He won't drop Kagawa for Fellaini. Fellaini will play in the middle next to Carrick to give us some bite and presence in the midfield.

Exactly man!

The only reason we're most likely after Fellaini is for Defensive mid-field duties & for that bitta steel in that area. Sure Moyes & Fellaini said during the second-half of last season (at a press conference i think) that Fellaini would play in his favourite position as a DM this coming season. And Moyes said at that lunch with the journo's in Bangkok last Friday, that he was after a "Scholes all-rounder" mid-fielder & a Defensive Mid-fielder too... i.e. Fabregas & Fellaini.. with a bitta luck anyway!

Any followers of the Belgium national side know his role? I'm certain he wouldn't play in the same role he plays at Everton, and with Defour, Witsel and Nainggolan as options in midfield I wouldn't be totally surprised if he didn't start every game.

He doesn't start every game. The only certainty in Belgium's midfield is Witsel. Next to him it's either Fellaini or Dembele (or Defour but he has a hard time getting in the team. Nainggollan doesn't get in the team at all really). Then in front of them, there's an AM. Sometimes Fellaini is used there, but lately that doesn't happen anymore. Now that position usually is taken by Chadli or De Bruyne. Hazard has played there as well, but he's usually used as LW (he drifts everywhere anyway)

there you go..

Thing is, and I'm not a Fellaini fan, it's a good midfield. I know you rate Carrick, and I think it's widely accepted that Kagawa's got really good potential - he was linked with a move to Arsenal, and would have been a fantastic addition for you lot.

what date do we have to get him by to capitalise on the release clause?
Getting twitchy on the real targets...

Fellaini, Sex, Bale and Baines would be a great, albeit highly expensive summer. That said, we can't be mad at that, I suppose it is what happens when we ignore the midfield for years on end. It will cost a lot to get two quality ones in now.

We better get a move on,according to Metro we only have seven days to trigger his release clause.

Fellaini haters congregate, you just know he's gonna join us, and in my opinion will be a cult hero. We lack aggressive physical players for the away trips to stoke, west ham, norwich, liverpool and others we are often bullied in some of these games, this guy can give a bit back and will compliment our ball players well. He's young, competitive and ok he's no fabregas, thiago etc but by the sounds of it he wants to play for us and scores goals.
Bring on Fellaini !

We may as well resign ourselves to the prospect of Fellaini becoming a United man. And if it does happen, we'd be better off looking at the glass half full rather than half empty. True, we will have missed out on Thiago and Fabregas (and Modric too, if he ever was a realistic target), but Fellaini does check some of the boxes that need to get checked.

The Hairy One won't be a disappointment in the way that Ando has been. He'll give us a good bit of fight in midfield and will be good for the occasional goal. Cleverley and Januzaj would have a clearer path to seizing whatever chances Moyes will give them.

Okay, this is an attempt to sugarcoat what is otherwise a disturbing reality -- our inability to attract a truly "world class" central midfielder -- but the reality is that 1) we're competing against clubs that have a lot more cash than United 2) generally better cities to live in and 3) we have a brand new manager and there are reasonable questions about how he will work out.

Point 3 may be the most important point. I'd be more than happy to bring in decent players like Fellaini and hold onto the prem trophy, thus answering questions about DM's fitness to serve as Fergie's successor. And then go hunting for the big game next summer.

Will he improve the squad?

Simple as that.

Exactly.

He would improve the squad, and to be honest he's probably start the majority of games.

He wouldn't, however, bring us up a level as to compete with Bayern and Barcelona. I do think Fabregas and Fellaini additions can though...

I still reckon he'll be 1 of 2 CM signings, Moyes said he wants two CM's and I don't think he'd being counted as a backup option for Fabregas (or Modric).

Agreed, this is part of a post I made in the twittor thread earlier:
A 25yr old International footballer with 5 years of Premier League experience under his belt, and not to mention the past experience of working with our current manager.
That really isn't a bad addition to any squad!

You talk as if there Fabregas deal is dead in the water.

It was just before the pre-season tour started (I think), he talked about signing one player as a DM (who would be Fellaini IMO) and another more attacking CM. I'll have a dig for it.

That really isn't a bad addition to any squad!

Darron Gibson is also a 25 year old international footballer with several years of Premier League experience and past experience of working with our current manager.

My theory is that he hasn't yet signed for Arsenal because Moyes has told him that we would make a move for him. Would be a very good signing.

I also think the same.

No surprise that we wait until the last days to make the offer for him as we don't want to pay unwelcome wages during pre season.

Umm yes he is. Made his PL debut in 2008/09, turned 25 in October 2012, played 19 times for the Republic of Ireland and spent two seasons at Everton working under Moyes.

Let's buy him back!

He's not an international footballer. Your statement is incorrect.

The Fellaini thing is 100% based on the fact that Moyes is his old manager.
