Fellaini

There's no doubt he's good enough to play for us in a midfield two. His passing, tackling, creativity are all good enough. The only problem is how his signing might affect our football and whether Moyes would be tempted to just stick him up top and lump passes to him

No doubt???

I'd never want him anywhere near a midfield 2.

I find this theory puzzling. Moyes is no fool, he's obviously aware of the quality he has at his disposal, compared to his limited options at Everton. Why on earth would he adapt a hoof ball tactic?

You're probably right there. If Moyes plans to use Fellaini like he does at Everton then I wouldn't want him here but if the plans are to use him as a more conventional midfielder I think we can do a lot worse than Fellaini.

Well that's your view.

I think he's more than good enough to play in a midfield two.

On the other hand I hope we sign him. Our midfield has been crying out for a big lad for years, Fellaini would do the job for us.

"If I’m leaving Everton - I say if - it will depend on lots of factors," said Fellaini, who reportedly has a 23 million pound buy-out clause written into his current contract. "I only want to go to a club where the manager *really wants me. In 2008, Everton did everything to convince me, especially David Moyes. He made me the player I am now."

Looks like he's on his way, please no.

Indeed, I don't get all of the negativity regarding him in this thread.

We can do a lot better than him too, and he's not the sort of midfielder we need, at all. There are a lot of reasons why I think getting him would be a very negative first step for Moyes to make.

A midfield two of Carrick and Fellaini would be excellent. We have easily enough creativity, and those two together would set the front four free. Most of the people who don't like him seem to just be thinking that he's is big so he must be nothing more than a battering ram.

Yeah that's definitely it, it's not like he plays in a league where we can see every match he plays every week and can actually form a valid opinion on him as a player, is it?

Nobody on here except Everton fans watch every game he plays, and considering he hasn't actually played in midfield more than three times this season the opinion is likely skewed.

It's pretty obvious that many do anyway, 'poor touch' 'can't pass' 'technically shit' It's all nonsense, for a defensive midfielder he is very good with the ball at his feet and pretty much never loses it (when playing in midfield that is)

That's the whole issue here I think. No one's quite sure what kind of midfielder he is

I doubt it is, I'm sure people can remember more than just this season. Fellaini has never looked like he'd be a great partner for Carrick in a midfield two.

Why are you all so confident that Moyes would even use him in a midfield role alongside Carrick anyway? If Rooney leaves then there's far more of a chance of Fellaini taking up his position on the pitch.

That would be pretty stupid for a club like United with the type of attacking talent we can attract - especially with players like Kagawa perfect for the number 10 role. I think Moyes should be given more credit than that.

If we did sign Fellaini I've got no doubts it would be to partner Carrick in the middle. Personally I think we could do a lot worse, his physical presence alone would make us harder to play through and toughen us up defensively.

You are joking right?

Whether Rooney stays or not, the future in that position is Kagawa. World class.

No, I'm not joking. If Moyes were to sign Fellaini, he'd probably want to use him in the position he feels he's best in and the position he has played him in the most, which is the #10 role.

Fellaini also *revealed he and Moyes have already hatched a plan to convert him into a deep-lying *midfielder, something United need.

“I’m happy with my *season, although I didn’t play in my best position,” said Fellaini. “I’m not a number 10. David Moyes predicts my future as a *defensive midfielder, but due to a lack of offensive power, he plays me up front.

“In the future I want to play as a six or an eight. From there, I can create danger and score goals.”

That's almost too good to be true, is that a quote from the transfer muppet fairy?

I hadn't seen that quote, so fairy nuff, he obviously thinks he should be a midfielder.

I just think we can do better, especially for that price.

Why does he play him there so much then? Or in that general position behind the striker, whether you define it as #10 or not.

Yep. Osman is more suited as no. 10, but Moyes would rather have Osman in CM two than Fellaini to partner Gibbo, who isn't that defensive either. If Fellaini is "sooo gooodd" in midfield two, it would be the other way around.

How long is his contract at Everton? That always seems to be a big factor in the price tag these days. 20 mil does seem alot, but they bought him for 15m when he was young and unproven.

Thank you. I remember him saying something similar earlier in the season when asked about his new attacking role with him talking about how he feels he's best as a defensive mid.

I think he'd be a good signing both to compete for a spot alongside Carrick, and to deputise for him. That being said, I think Cabaye could do the exact same and would be a marginally better fit. Probably cheaper as well.

Not sure we can for 23m. Players like Strootman will be 18-20m and unproven in the PL, although dutch players tend to adapt well. Not saying we should buy him (Strootman) mind. At least Felllaini is PL proven.

:wenger: The people who know Fellaini best, such as his manager, Everton fans and Fellaini himself say he is best as a central midfielder. Playing him there has been tactical to get the best out of the squad.

Do you think they are all lying?

I have eyes and brain to think that he isn't a really good CM, whenever he played there.

Fellaini played central midfield today. Did anyone watch the match? Whoscored suggests he was the worst of Everton's midfield with a rating on 6.4. He also, predictably, got booked again

On the other side was young Nathan Ake who got an impressive 7.1 at 18 years old.

Good player but not the standard of player we should be looking at.

I'd be happy with him, only better midfielders in the league that I think are possible targets would be Sandro and maybe Schneiderlin.

I want him. As a defensive-minded midfielder mind.

I think it would be good for us to have a bit of bite next to Carrick. And I think he would compliment our silky attacking players.

I actually like Fellaini as an option - think he'd give us something we're lacking - but have no idea how he'd work with Carrick. This season in particular Carrick has been almost a DMF - always filling holes and actually dropping into defence quite frequently when someone runs forward.

Presumably Fellaini would allow Carrick to get forward a bit more, but would the Belgian be good enough defensively? He's not exactly quick.

Okay that came out wrong and made me sound retarded. I know what I mean, he would do the dirty work basically.

Two good calls, Sandro would be expensive though
