Fellaini

Would people rather us get him not at say a mil or 2 less or get him at the start of the window at 2mil more but with a full pre season with the club getting used to our style of play, other players etc?

It would have been better for the team. And if it's better for the team, one or two millions shouldn't make much of a difference.

Confident that we will get Fellaini and I'm more than happy with that.

He's a good player who is criminally underrated by a lot on here.

You're looking silly for paying £23m for a midtable player,
He's the best player at a side which finished 6th last season

However, I'm not convinced he's what we need. Playing Fellaini alongside Carrick seems very negative and totally unnecessary in the vast majority of games we play. Hopefully we'll be signing a more creative midfielder on Monday too.

I expect he will turn out to be a decent addition. Not the star we're looking for in CM to really make a challenge in the CL but there seems few available.

Still pissed off at our laughable bids for Fabregas. £45m would be a good price for him.

I'm pretty confident that even if he turns out pretty rubbish, he will shit all over the Arsenal lightweights when we play them.

What was the release clause?

£23.5m so just under what we might end up paying for him.

At these kind of prices, I think we should sign Cabaye instead. I like Fellaini, but Everton are taking the piss.

Leighton Baines, despite his age, would be a worthy addition.

I don't care how much we spend really.

If Carrick got injured we'd be fecked. Plus he's getting a bit old. Plus he can't play every single game. Plus we don't have many CMs as it is.

I don't doubt the Carrick comment, but I thought we were looking for cover as well as a playmaker?
Yeah, but at least with Fellaini you'd have the cover but you'd also have a player who offers an entirely different skill set to Carrick. Fellaini would allow us to play a 4-3-3 with him at the base, and I just think for the sake of four million I'd pick Fellaini because he'd give us better tactical options.

Fellaini has a slight age advantage, a definite height advantage and a big head advantage for sure, but when Everton go down next year under Martinez, we can pick him up much cheaper next year.;)

Bug-eyes is my target...

You're just saying that so people will think you're still ambitious when in reality you lost your passion for it years ago and will be satisfied to hook some young, inexperienced no-mark.

Why exactly cant we play 433 with Carrick at the base?

You're looking silly for paying £23m for a midtable player,

He was the best player for the 6th best team in England last year. If you are calling 6th place midtable, then you might find that Arsenal are going to be a midtable side if Liverpool can improve.

Read Skorenzy's view on Fellaini in the thread about the Belgian National team.

Not convinced that Fellaini would be anything other than a buy to satisfy the supporters need to have a signing, any signing really.

Disagree, we wanted some steel in our midfield ever since Fletcher became ill. He's the one player that we struggle with when we play Everton. I personally think he'll be a superb signing.

It is the most obvious squad replacement and represents the best value for money in the market. Someone doing a limited job similar to a Lucas Leiva or a De Jong would cost under 10m easily.

It's a real boggler of the mind though.

28 million it says on bbc gossip section today
If we end up paying 5 million more than what his buy out clause was it will be proof of just how poor our strategy has been this season

Fletcher was not as limited as Lucas or De Jong, his attacking game improved as he played more games. In 08/09 and 09/10 he was immense - his influence on the team was tremendous and reached levels a pure destroyer type of player would never be able to.

Which doesn't explain our interest in the likes of Thiago, Fabregas and Herrera...if it's true that we're lacking steel.

Moyes isn't spending 25m to satisfy the supporters. Even if he's overpriced, the manager thinks he can do a job for us. I'm more than a little unsure on Fellaini's style personally, but there's no way in hell that Moyes is buying him for anything other than him improving the squad.

ffs this is really happening isn't it ? Wake me up from this nightmare !!!!!
In all seriousness, I'm very underwhelmed by his possible arrival.

Better Fellaini that no-one I guess, but considering that we are linked with Herrera who is only 5-6m more expensive, it will be madness if in the end we sign only Fellaini.

#I reckon he'd become a darling of the Stretty if he signs. Underrated on here.

Fully agree with that, I can't believe how many posters on this thread are slagging hm off. He brings something to your squad that nobody else offers in your team, and whilst maybe not being as technical as someone like thiago or fabregas, he is a quality player in what he does.

Rumour has been we've been trying to add 2 midfielders. Our interest in Thiago may have been made up, Fabregas is a stunning player and Herrrrrrraa is looking like our attempts to replace Scholes. So steel and Scholes makes sense to me.

Every transfer rumour makes sense to you. Just sod off and go cry outside.

Anybody would think we were after Gareth Barry or Scott Parker. He always demands special attention from the opposition, and usually comes out on top.
Adding his midfield presence would be desirable enough, but when you consider what he brings to both boxes, at set pieces, he would be huge for us.
Not a lot of decent midfielders offer that.
If Fergie was in for him, there would be less dissent.

That's a great vid. He's more than capable of playing several roles in our midfield and I think you're right, once he's in a United shirt he'll win fans very quickly.
