Fellaini (on his way) out? | Duncan Castles: Fellaini agrees new two year deal

Martial hasn’t been having conversations in the media telling them that Manchester United will need to pay £44m to replace him if he leaves, though.
No, he just had his agent go public and say that he wants to leave. And again, season before last he was talking up a loan move to Sevilla. That dedication. Admirable stuff.

I don't agree with that but I can't accept people downplaying how dedication and the role he has played for us in the last few years.
Riddle me this

How can you say that he has been a total waster

I don't think he has been a total waster.

He's scored some important goals for Utd in the last 3 or 4 years.

I don't think his overall game is anywhere near good enough for Man Utd and I find it immensely frustrating when we bring him and proceed to lump the ball towards him. This 2 year contract means we'll be getting plenty more of that. That's why I'm upset he's staying. I think he's an incredibly average player.

I'm sure he is ecstatic after running his mouth in the press, only to be rewarded with a salary increase and further 2 years added to his contract. He did his work very well. Genius.
A player trying to get a better contract in this day and age? Scandalous stuff.

Fred doesn't need to be a starter and neither does Matic, they can rotate, Fred would offer the legs over Matic in plenty of games where his mobility is an issue, this midfield is badly lacking a playmaker.
Oh yeah rotate 87 million of talent so that we can buy another 60 million midfielder to play in their position.
Matic was very good last year, give Fred a chance before making him a back up

Young and Val especially will be first teamers well into next season. That imaginary upgrade at the fullback position is a newspaper myth

As yet we have not upgraded or changed our full backs. Last season's fullbacks are still, the fullbacks which will be used next season, unless we buy another fullback (which I doubt we will do).

I see people bringing up his “important” goals for us - well since he’s been here, I can only count 6 - in 5 fecking years. And literally half of them any half decent midfielder would have scored.

14/15 - Palace away, Berties home
15/16 - FA Cup quarters and semis
16/17 - Celta Vigo home
17/18 - Arsenal home

Only 3 of these were due to crossing to him because of his height, and even then, the palace one was a keeper error. The other 3 would be put away by any half decent midfielder getting in the box.

For someone who’s a “good” plan b when we are chasing a game, he sure doesn’t contribute much in terms of game changing goals.

A liability who provides us nothing in the direction we should be moving towards as a club (on the pitch).

Why not? Other top sides do just that, and we play so many games there's plenty to go around, and it's got nothing to do with giving Fred a chance, he is what he is, and what he is is not a playmaker, we've needed to replace Carrick and we haven't, he's badly missed whenever we play a team that defends deep as we need someone to to keep the tempo of the play and pick the passes, none of the CM's we have will do that, so what we do is resort to long ball, which is a horible idea, it's why the points we dropped last year were mostly vs smaller teams looking for a draw as opposed to bigger teams that gave us space.

This will be reported everywhere that we have caved in and offered him a bumper contract whereas in reality it really just looks like he's accepted the offer we had on the table from the very beginning.

I agree with all that you have said but we bring him only when we have failed to score, he's our last resort. I hope we won't have to resort to long balls next year, but when and if we do, he is a good option to have. Not to mention he helps us massively in dealing with set pieces

I don't normally bother responding to official announcements or twitter feeds but if the club end up releasing news of this shameful capitulation I will wade in.

Even if the club also announce some sort of mega signing on the 1st of July as a distraction, then the awful stink of this decision will tarnish any announcement they make for a lot of fans. I've been a fan of Mourinho and not counted myself among the nay-sayers, but if this is the squad we enter the new season with I think he has lost the plot and will be gone by Christmas.

I really hope I am wrong, but this gives me that sick in the stomach feeling of the club just making a terrible decision....I think Ed is trying to blow it all on some massive transfer and I have a horrid feeling it is something aimed more at column inches than what we actually need on the pitch.

It's going to be a rough few days I think.

Apart from the fact it is? Imagine if this was Pogba or Martial, or any other player he doesn’t seem bizarrely worship the ground for.
Martial has rejected two contract extensions and has made it public quite brazenly that he wants to leave.

Mate, this is 2018. We would need to spend at least £60M on Fellaini's replacement.

He only made 4 PL starts last season. Mourinho hardly used him. Waste of time keeping him when he has little influence to the team. We needed someone to cover Matic - who played too many games last season.

See, I don't think that is the case. I think we have offered him much better terms and he has held us to ransom. Fecking Fellaini holding the club to ransom. It's a sad state of affairs really.

Were you on the inside of these contract talks then Random?

I'm more referring to his recent comments in the press that suggested he wanted to leave the club, but now it would appear those comments were merely a ploy on his part to gain a new contract with his current club.

Look, I don't know any more than you or anyone else but I'm entitled to my opinion regardless. Yes, I'm aware that opinions do not constitute fact.

You lot do know theres a world cup going on right? Or is there no telly at your gaff?
I mean in how we set up our team, retaining Fellaini. Jose saying he wants Young to play about 50 games next year. Is Dalot going to dislodge Valencia on the other side, not likely at the start. The same glaring issues and how we play look and change a game with a sub. Calm down Ramshock and stop quoting me with bullocks as usual.

Mate you do realise that he has played important roles in both the major trophies we have won in the last two years right. He was excellent in the Europa Final too.

"The other 3 would be put away by any half decent midfielder getting in the box."
Maybe, maybe not but we would have to buy another midfielder to do that if he's gone, right, which would mean 50 million

The manner in which certain footballers go about the acquisition of a new contract and the fact that football fans find it acceptable is the scandalous part.
I'm sorry, but what exactly did he do? Did he threaten to join, I don't know, say Man City, unless we broke our wage structure to keep him? No, that was club legend and all time top scorer Rooney. Fellow legends Keane and Ferdinand did similar. What exactly did Fellaini do that has you so upset?

You literally take every comment or answer in a press conference at face value? What was Jose supposed to say? Nah Ashley is shite mate and Shaw is fat, you know that Sandro fella at Juve? We are gonna send them a blank check for him. fecking hell people

Players use the media to get contracts, managers do the same thing. This isnt specific to Fellaini.

We had a 1 year extension offer 2 months ago - reportedly signed a 2 year contract. He always wanted a 2 year contract, which is why he rejected our 1 year extension. Then there have been reports on him looking for other clubs. Now he’s got his 2 year contract with us. I can see why people think we caved (I personally don’t).

So who is the Matic back up in the current team ?
Herrera who was player of the year in 2017 in that position. He struggled last season when trying to revert back to a more attacking midfield role.

I take issue with how footballers go about their business in acquiring new contracts. Shoot me.

Why on earth would you think me upset? Believe me I'm not.

You don't need to go that extreme to make your point. Jose could have said about a thousand different things but he chose to say that because he probably means them or it means Young will still sadly be a big player of his.
