FC Bayern 17/18 discussion

We don't need a backup striker tbh, the guy who's always harping on about it should stfu

What to make of Lewandowski's comments and Rumminegge criticizing him and Müller? While I agree that players should not concern themselves with transfers etc and get on with it, there's not much wrong in what these two have said.

I like that Bayern is simultaneously a 'family' and a globally renowned club with a world class team, so it will be interesting to see how directors balance the two. Is someone like Eden Hazard out of reach if available?

Julian Nagelsmann in an interview with Eurosport...

“FC Bayern plays a big role in my dreams. I lived in Munich for many years. I come from Landsberg am Lech, not so far from Munich.

“My wife and my kid will also move to Munich shortly. We’re building a house there. It’s our hometown.

“But even if I never get the chance to manage FC Bayern, I’d still die as a happy person.

“I’m very happy in life - however FC Bayern would make me even happier. But it does not mean that my life fortune totally depends on FC Bayern.”

Bayern were trying several times to get him from Chelsea and were willing to totally destroy their 40m€ record for him. Mourinho made it impossible though.

How have they started in the league?
Underwhelming. 3 pretty average games, the first two we won through individual quality without being great. The third one we lost, outsmarted and outplayed by Hoffenheim.

Ahh, so that's why I haven't seen him mentioned yet.
Played 10 minutes as a sub in the last Bundesliga game, there's really not much to talk about yet. He looked promising in pre-season before he got injured, but that doesn't really mean anything. The next weeks will tell us more about his role in the team and his quality.

Thanks.

We don't actually get to see the Bundesliga in Norway right now as no one has bought the rights.

That's not quite what he said.

He said nothing about 'dreams'. He also mentioned that coaching Bayern would maybe make him happier.

What makes it even worse is that ancelotti has a fit Ribery who looks refreshed. Would be terrible if he wastes this with his nonsense.

Yeah Ribéry has been looking really good for months now. Which reminds me, taking off Ribéry at the Bernabeu after 70 minutes for Douglas fecking Costa

@GhastlyHun, what about Carlo to China in january? It would be a shock, albeit i think he doesn't like to stay in Munich anymore. He has clearly some problems with the dressing room.

No idea about that. Though I just read today that there is increased flirting between Julian Nagelsmann and Bayern.

Basler didn't say that Ancelotti is going to China, but that he 'heard somewhere that Ancelotti might go to China in winter'. Where he heard that, might just as well have been some drunkard sitting next to him in some Palatinate village pub

Looking at Bayern you cannot help but feel that there are more than a few chinks in the armour following their fantastic last five years.

Losing Lahm and Alonso to retirement was never going to be easy. However they have a number of players now on the wrong side of 30 (Ribery, Robben) whilst others are approaching 30 (Lewandowski, Hummels, Muller). Whilst these are undoubtedly very good players, Bayern's loss of key players to retirement, an aging squad with signings that are not Bayern quality (e.g. Rodriguez) leave it possible, just possible, that Dortmund will push them for the Bundesliga this season.

I'd say PSG have overtaken them in terms of likelihood to win the CL this season but then this has little to do with Bayern and more to do with corruption with Qatari oil money.

Still don't get why Bayern ever went for Ancelotti

Agreed. Never saw it working out tbh and never have rated him as highly as others too.. him coming to United would have been a disaster.

Perfect manager for a club at its peak and with loads of egotistical stars, but awful at a club which needs a upheaval or is on its way down and needs reforming before it declines.

Bayern need new blood and he's not the man to oversee that process.
