Favourite United Player Who Wasn't That Good

Jesper Olsen, loved to watch him run down the wing. I really feel he never lived up to his potential, a bit like United in the 80's.

My favourite two players that wouldn't get in to a squad of best 23 ever at United would be

  • AWB
  • Daley Blind
I just love watching them play, both have such a unique way of playing and i could literally eat popcorn whilst watching them play.

Taibi.

Dong Fang Zhou.

Bebe

Totally agree. Olsen on the left, Strachan on the right with Robson and Moses in the middle. Loved Big Ron's United. Injuries ( and drinking ) hampered that team. Great cup team, not so good in the league. Sounds familiar...

There was a keeper for us in the 80's, Chris Turner. He wasn't bad but was never good enough to dislodge Gary Bailey and then Gary Walsh.
I admired him cos he was something like 5ft 10 and nobody gave him a chance but he did a job when called upon.

Heinze without a doubt.

He always looked happy out there and was willing to throw himself at everything. He was eventually replaced by Evra and Vidic who were a class above him, but man he was always fun to watch.

Whiteside and Stapleton up top.

Alexander Buttner. Scoring and assisting in your debut match as a defender coming from a small club like Vitesse to never being able to reproduce such a game.

Didnt he release a statement when he left saying he was "leaving to play in the Champions League"?

It does. It was a great cup team, was never consistent enough to win the league though.

Javier Hernandez?

The year City signed Auguero we signed Chicarito. A very likeable player and character who won us over. But that was a sign of the decline huge gap in quality between the two. They were probably similar ages to at the time.

Veron

I mean. He wasn't that good for us. But I was devastated when he and Beckham left the same summer. Really loved his elegance and his mid leg socks

Anderson for me. I remember being super hyped before he joined. He didn’t fulfil my expectations but was fun to watch. He also shat on Fabregas.
He also scored a penalty when wonder boy missed and lay face down on the grass in the pouring rain crying his eyes out, because he thought his dream transfer was over.

As a kid I loved Remi Moses but he's always seemed underrated in the 3 threads that I've read on here in the last 20 years. Always thought he should be more of a cult hero. Would've played for England but for injury and sadly retired at 28.

The post injury Neil Webb was never the same player and that's the version that most remember. He was absolutely bossing the start of the '89 season before snapping his achilles with England. Having had the same injury (not playing for England) I can completely empathise with why things went the way they did.

I don't think I have ever seen Park's name mentioned here without many people following it as him being very underrated, I am sure we have now reached a point that he is actually overrated. Any time thread like this pops out, people say how Park was underrated, and we are talking about player who has played over 200 games for Manchester United.

He was a good team player, but he was far from amazing. In his last two years he was really average/poor in 8 out of 10 games, it's funny how people forget things, we could never control the game any time he played and he was used for his defensive qualities more than attacking. He wouldn't get half of the games at other top clubs in Europe as he did for us. People sometimes wonder how we didn't win more in Europe and think having players like him playing so many games and "marking" Pirlo instead of actually having the likes of Pirlo, Ronaldinho, etc. is one of the reasons why clubs like Barcelona, Milan, Real Madrid have won more than us in Europe in last 20 years, unfortunately.

He was amazing person and a great servant, gave his all, but his talent was far from amazing.

Anderson. Watched a couple of old games recently and despite thinking at the time he's frustrating as feck, he actually did keep things ticking over.

I remember that Schalke game where we beat them 6-2 with both Anderson and Gibson scoring. Good times.

Scored a freekick on his debut too. Loved him

Always found Ryan Tunic and Paddy MacAir to be likeable despite not making it at United
