Fantasy Tournament: World Cup All-Time All-Stars

Yeah sorry Hagi central and Zidane left. I keep thinking of that ridiculous goal he scored in 94 from the left touch line and automatically think he played left.

To be fair Hagi did have games both on the right and left too. He was equally effective there too; that goal shows that he does wonder around the pitch moreso than the fact he has great technique which goes without saying!

Guess I will have to watch this again, and again... Bollocks. A total football artist, he fits right into my setup though.

Reason I wailed over having picked two keepers is my sub option otherwsie was Elkjaer

I love that pick Anto! Shocking to still be available for you - the benefit of themes certainly. An Underdog without a doubt.

It's not an underdog theme anymore, when you pick Cannavaro and Romario

Romario is the underdog because he lost the ballon d'or that year to Stoichkov! Everybody knows that.

Cannavaro is of course an underdog because he was rated well below Nesta/Rio/Vidic/Maldini etc all his career and then he had one unexpected moment at the top.

Cannavaro is only there temporarily.

The crux of how the team works and functions though is still the same.

fecking restrictions, would have picked differently without them, kept Seeler on and finished it off, but hey. I can't keep to that and picking underdogs across the entire team, that sooner or later would translate to picking shit, not underdogs.

I'm not blaming you, antohan and if you only use them temporarily and get back to the theme later, then I think it's great. For now, it's really not an underdog theme.

So do we draw now? Or do we wait for Polaroid? Because if it's the latter, than I'm off now for a while, if not I stay and get nervous.

There is no need to wait for Pol, we do need a random unbiased person to make the draw.

I did think that but thanks for putting it forward yourself. Who would have put money on Italy winning that World Cup and Cannavaro being the beast he was? No one.

With Romario there's a case as well, albeit different. Even with Ronaldo and Rivaldo in their pomp, the player Brazilians felt strongly about starting was Romario. He was the people's striker, massive uproar every time he got dropped, etc. It was the ongoing soap opera with various managers, and particularly pre-1998. To this day some believe he wasn't injured and it was an elegant way for Zagallo to break up Ro-Ro. If so, he is a cnut, because he would have been handy to have around in that final instead of Ronaldo.

It's beautiful how you twist the story of each player around until it suits your theme, anto, that alone is worth the whole thing . I'm sure you would have found a reason to call Matthäus an underdog as well (probably because he had to play a final without his favorite shoes or something like that).

One of the former managers around? TITO, GIO, Cutch, Fruitcake, ... ? They could do the draw and maybe post the games one by one with a bit of commentary on the most exciting matchups?

Would be very interesting!
