Fantasy Tournament: World Cup All-Time All-Stars

These restrictions have been the hardest I've ever had in a draft.

Not sure if I just got unlucky or everyone else is finding it really difficult.

The logic people apply with keepers is, so long as they aren't known to occasionally drop a bollock they'll be fine. Of course we know it doesn't work that way, but hey. I always pick keepers who are commanding/organising and good with their feet but no one gives a shit about that when it actually is quite a significant issue tactically. Grosics was an integral part of how the Magyars played being one of the very first sweeper-keepers. I tried to replicate that with Chilavert who was, by all means, Paraguay's main attacking outlet with his cracking long passes and confidence on the ball.

Aye - and I for one appreciate precisely such reasoning. I think it's something a manager should be rewarded for - picking a keeper that suits the set-up. Or, for that matter, picking a keeper who is clearly in the very top echelon.

And there you go still adding players whose greatness overlaps with that of those around them. Undisputed quality, but I wonder what the dressing room would be like when most of them are not given the platform to standout in all their glory.

Not winding you up, made the same point during your game, you want to have your cake and eat it. Doesn't quite work like that in real life.
 
First round was my biggest problem! I wanted to keep the WC winners at 3, ended up at 4. It meant I could pick up 3 WC winners out of 4 picks in this draft.

I am out this weekend from friday to monday so can't play my match before Tuesday, 21st Jan! Anytime Tuesdays onwards is fine by me since I will prepare my write up before hand.

I'm the same way. I'll be out of town from Friday morning the late Sunday night (probably be home around midnight). Don't think it will matter since games aren't played over the weekends.

Kim Jong-un disagrees. He looks like to have had plenty of cake. Probably the only one in his country that has any cake.

Hehe. I think they are two great full backs for any set up. And considering who my previous wing backs were, it is a seismic improvement there. I've got a solid group of players on the team now and a lot of them id be happy to field in a final, which can only be a good thing!

Has aldo then managed two teams in this draft and is now assisting the third? That has to be a record.

You need to get that in a big important looking frame at your place.

Would also make a great sign to have next to your laptop and raise at your partner -without keeping the eyes off your computer and finger off F5- when she comes asking for TLC right when it's about to be your turn to pick. I know Theon could do with one.

I am fine with that though I think you should make it 22 and 23 so that it finishes before Saturday. Drafting can take place over the weekend

I will be on vacation till the 22nd so pardon me if I may not be on here as much as I should. I entrust Aldo with the free rein to make decisions as game organiser & team manager when I am not around.
 
I agree with crappy on the dates, I'd prefer to play it during the week and then draft over the weekend (if I'm still in it :nervous: ).
 
Some great picks this round. Next matches will be tough. I think I've covered most of my glaring weaknesses but I hope it's enough of an improvement to compete. People didn't seem to like my previous team :(

The game was a bit strange, got sidetracked to weird discussions like Hagi's workrate. Your picks are brilliant and should improve the team significantly, so I wouldn't worry too much about the next game, not more than everyone else at least.

Thanks guys - I hope so! I guess it's more of a reflection of the picks everyone else has made too - quality picks across the board. Any game will be tough I think from now on.

My honest opinion is man for man you had a fantastic side, more World Cup pedigree at least. Just didn't quite understand the excessively defensive set up! I think that is what cost you mate.

I'm happy with my upgrades though. 3/3 weakest positions solved with top 3 players in that position ever (at least I think!!)

Hopefully my 4th will be as good.
