How did FPL do last year with price changes in gw1?

I remember it as if they didnt change prices that quick?

my strategy is to pick up on some in form players, but it could quickly be screwed up as first game is friday, some hyped players play on saturday and then you have both Liverpool and Spurs playing sunday where maybe Salah/Jota/Kane would be the ones to jump on. But hyped players who either dissappoint or do well could go up or down already saturday and screw things up basically.

on top of that United play on monday, so itd be nice if pricechanges didnt go crazy from the beginning so you’d lose out on an important player for gw2

False. The only purpose in this game is to win, not have fun, and be able to come on here and tell everyone how incredibly devastated you are with measly 97 points (in a week where everyone else gets an average of 40 points).
I think we need to take a harsh stance on humble braggers this season. Yellow card for first one and then straight dismissal from the league on second offence.

I'm ready for this:

Right. This ones been tougher than most year. Lots of goodm options needing to be left out. This is where I'm at (currently):

Ederson
Areola

TAA
Estupinan
Shaw
Bell
Beyer

Rashford
Saka
Martinelli
Mitoma
Enzo

Nketiah
Isak
Haaland

Thoughts?

First Salah & Haaland draft I've done which I actually don't mind...apart from Pickford in goal. Defence is obviously pretty weak but has some attacking potential at least and there's potentially 6 penalty takers in the front 7.

Pickford (£4m)
Estu Saliba Udogie (Colwill) (Kabore)
Salah Bruno Saka Martinelli (Nakamba)
J.Pedro Haaland Jackson

With Liverpool covered could hopefully roll a transfer into GW3.

This is basically the draft I have for Kane/Salah, except I have gone for Rashford/Diaby. Only real regret is a lack of Chilwell which is putting me off, but it is Chilwell, so expecting him to be fit over that run of games could be a mistake too.

I might put Gusto as my 4 mil and wait for the inevitable James injury and potentially have Chelsea covered anyway.

Went for Steele & Areola.

Estu, Gabriel, cash, Colwill and bell
Salah, Rashy, Odegaard, Mitoma, Grealish
Haaland, Wissa, Archer.

Yes, attack is bit weak but I need Odegaard and Mitoma there.

It might be nothing, but I would advise against Steele. He made a mistake and got taken off at half time in their last friendly.

It might not matter at the start, but they paid £20 million for their new keeper, he is 20 years old and highly touted. I think the pressure will be on there from the start and it could be a transfer waiting to happen.

I can’t choose a 5.0 City defender so I am actually leaning towards Ederson cause I don’t know if both Stones and Dias will start. Ederson has never played under 3000 minutes in the PL since he came here. Also neither Stones nor Dias nor Ake nor Akanji have increased chances of bonus points. And all 4.5 keepers suck.

Yay or nay?

The only City players I feel confident of picking are Haaland and Ederson, so I have.

Nay. Max you will ever get with Ederson is a 6 pointer. So it’s 6 or 2 every week.

The right 4.5 will get save points and can get 4-5 pointers even if they concede. They are also more likely to get bonus in teams that don’t score a lot of goals.

Couple that with the fact that it’s one million to spend elsewhere (the difference between a Chilwell and a Henry) and it’s an easy choice.

Fair points but I already have Chilwell and Henry so I have covered the 4.5 and 5.5m price points. If I want City cover in defense how do I go about getting it cause no defender is nailed on?

I think getting the right Arsenal triple up might be key to a good start. Getting cold feet on Martinelli now as strong calls from looking on the Arsenal forums for Trossard to start. I guess Ode is more nailed but has Havertz potentially cramping his style. Tricky one

Trossard or Martinelli might start up front instead of Nketiah. They are much more fluid that way. I think Martinelli is 1st choice on the LW. He was very good last year. Also Trossard is very streaky and inconsistent.

I would just take a risk with Stones. Always the chance he scores from a corner or the edge of the box and he is a safe pick.

I just think the difference between Ederson and the cheaper keepers is too minimal and you are denying yourself the chance of a keeper haul.

Yeah I don't think Arteta likes Nketiah up top hence the Havertz signing. He tends to blunt the games of Martinelli and Saka somewhat with his play style whereas Jesus/Trossard/Havertz bring them in more.

I think Trossard or Havertz will play 9. Trossard could also start in place of Martinelli. Havertz will probably play at 8 if not 9 so he could be the one.

Martinelli & Pickford to Havertz & Onana for me.

Also the noise coming from Kane's camp is he wants his future sorted by the end of week. If nothing is happening I might well go with him over Salah. Plenty of options to jump on a Liverpool attacker but harder to get to Kane.

Does Pep even rotate his defensive combinations? I'm looking through all their defenders records and it seems they rarely play anywhere near 3,000 minutes. I've looked at their injury histories as well and each player seems to suffer from lengthy spells of injury most years but it still doesn't explain why they don't play that much in the seasons they're fit. Rotation then?

I'm still weighing up whether to get Gvardiol into my team from the start.

I don’t think there is value in Ederson. They concede very few shots so he hardly ever goes above 6 points even with a clean sheet and is almost always just a 2 pointer. Onana is £0.5m cheaper and will get more saves and bonus points as he will be more exposed by our defense and midfield.

Gvardiol is new to the league and very young. He won’t go straight into the team that already has a very strong defensive unit.

Fair enough, but I was also wondering about how much Pep rotates his defenders. It would seem unusual for a manager to rotate defensive partnerships but they all have suspiciously few minutes on their records from past seasons.

It’s Pep. If he decides tomorrow that Ake is a left winger, Rico Lewis an offensive midfielder and Foden can play right back, would you actually be surprised?

On another note, feck FPL. I've spent so many hours tinkering with the same stupid team I've lost all concept of time and space.

I've gone Emi Martinez in goal because I expect Emery's Villa defence to be as tight as a duck's arse.

Mac Allister goes into midfield for 6m because he's cheap and has had a cracking pre-season. Liverpool supporters are raving about him on forums.

My bench includes Baldock and a guy from Luton called Kabore.. Research reveals he's a young defender on loan from Man City who might actually play. Otherwise I've got the same dudes every single one of you has.

I have one question: What's a good amount to keep in the bank at the start of the season? I've decided to keep 3m in the bank while we work out who's actually any good, but don't know if others are inclined to go with less.

0.5 to be safe and maybe 1.0 if you’re really happy with your team. Anything more and in my opinion it’s a waste.

Our defence has been dogshit in preseason by all accounts, so I decided to go without TAA. Might regret it though as he got about twelvety returns in 10 games at the end of last season.

But it’s the same if you go with Dias and Stones. They don’t score any bonus points and their offensive contributions are pretty rare. So they don’t score more than 6 that often. And even if they do, the fact that they aren’t nailed but Ederson is kinda gives the edge to him.

Interesting. Thanks for that. I've only played one season and am scarred from spending all 100m last season and having no money to change what was a very shit team.

Dias and Stones are actually decent for bonus points, and they pop up with a goal / assist those few times a year. Even without goal contributions they can still get 7-8 points quite comfortably if they keep a clean sheet in a low scoring affair.

Guys, I need some advice. Do I change anything? Below is my current draft with 1m in the bank.

Flekken, Areola
Gabriel, Estu, Chilwell, Stones, Beyer
Saka, Rashford, Bruno, Mitoma, Eze
Haalanad, Jackson, Pedro

Can upgrade Flekken to Onana but thinking of saving that 3rd Utd spot for Hojlund once he is fit and is integrated into our team.

Who, beside Areola and Beyer; will you bench?

I've spent a lot of time on the Spurs forum and it sounds like Maddison has had a superb preseason and will be an important playmaker for them. I want him in the team but don't trust his injury record for the 7.5m he'll cost.

Son is an absolute no-go for me at 9m as he's being played as a proper winger in Ange's system instead of closer to the middle and he's apparently looked out of sorts.

For what it's worth, I'm happy with my team but now I've got doubts about whether leaving 3m in the bank is too much.

Bench is Areola, Kabore, Baldock, Archer

Again true buts what’s the guarantee Dias and Stones start every game? Ederson actually starts around 34-35 games a year.

No guarantees whatsoever. That is precisely why they aren’t £6.0m. They will both start 28-30 games but you don’t know which and they will usually be subbed in for a 1-pointer in games they don’t start.

Surely in isolation Maddison is a better pick than Mac Allister? Spend half of it on that upgrade.

I am down to two drafts now for last few days.

I want to pick the Kane one just for the reassurance of those returns, but I know the more sensible templatey one is the way to go.

It’s heart vs head here and the reason I lose is because the heart always wins!

Ok so which is better between...

Salah, Bruno, Jackson

or

Kane, Rashford, Eze?

That's where I am at the moment.

The second. Kane has way easier games, Rashford trumps Bruno for goal threat and it’s not just Eze, but your pick of the 6,5s in midfield over Jackson.
