L'Arse lover... :smirk:

 it's the curse of being 14th pick either all the United Players you wanted are gone, or people over-rate Chelsea or Liverpool players and take them before superior Arsenal versions(IMO).

....

And to Vinay in truth if you left Friedel that round I probably would have taken him.

Essien is better than any L'Arse player available when I picked him...

Guess what? In the hypothetical case that in the 12th round of picks the manager was to be picked, he'd surely have picked Arsene Wenger after Melvin would choose SAF and me Mourinho... :D

That's why picking managers is a bad idea... unless I get to start first.

True, but when it came to my pick was Essien better than Vieira?

Not in my opinion, and I wanted to start with a CM... of course ideally Keano, perhaps Scholes, but without them Ill take Vieira at the drop of a hat.

Do you really believe that bit? Why would that be the case? Personally, I'd not feel any particular difference about picking a player from either of those three teams...

Fair enough - it's a very subjective issue. Nothing personal against Vieira. But, personally, I truly prefer Essien over Vieira. The latter comes across as too moody to my liking. Essien just picks himself up and carries on... That's an attitude I truly value...

I think perhaps its typical confirmation bias on my part...

But my logic would be that there was a point in time when Arsenal had a team that was unbelievable and the second best probably to United '99, that period being the 'Invincible' Season... I was particularly surprised that players like Pires from that period took so long to be picked.

Then you need to take this seasons form into account, would certain players be over-looked so prominently i.e Alonso picked before Petit... if it wasn't for recent memory of how this season has panned out...

I don't know the answers, but I have found that so far I haven't really had to make a 'Choice' exactly, just more been left with unavoidable selections due to them not being selected prior...These happen, on the most part to be Arsenal players seemingly...

There could be something to do with the Chelsea bit, I go through the United players for the positions I want to fill first, then Chelsea players, then Arsenal players... I only consider Liverpool players as a last resort.

Fair enough, I was honestly going to pick Pires if you hadn't picked him last round.

But I'd imagine United 07-08 has to rank above L'Arse 03-04...

I really didn't make any distinction that way... But, yes, I did favour Ole in front of a couple of good other strikers available from other teams... That's my United bias...

Plus, Ole's such a popular character around on the Cafe... And he's a great finisher to have on any team...

Depends, are we still just talking about Premier League form?

It'd be very difficult to differentiate like that, cos United 98-99 would rank pretty low if you're talking PL only.

Chelsea 04-05 accumulated the highest ever number of points in a 38 game EPL season.

 yeah if im honest i noticed this after posting...

But i would personally contest that Chelsea didn't have much of a league to compete in that year, we were shocking...

Maybe ill have to revise and say that Arsenal 'invincibles' had the greatest league season ever...(staying unbeaten against a strong United and Chelsea)

i,e Id perfer United to go unbeaten and win the league than accumulate the highest point total.

FortBoyard's quite a French context, though, isn't it? Just coincidence, I presume...

Yeah it was an old English TV gameshow based around midgets....

Struck me as a shite username that may stand out a bit :smirk:

Interesting... I hope we one day break that 95pt mark, if not for Spurs's injury time goal, Liverpool could finish this season unbeaten and finish about 4th...

Well i mean finish unbeaten and win the league...

But I take your point.

You can't really say that halfway through a season - that's what the scousers are saying, I guess it makes them feel slightly better.

In more recent times, it is a French TV gameshow of somewhat "Fear Factor" type and "Physical Prowess" type tests to be completed to gather clues/keys towards getting Gold coins (called in French "boyards") on an island Fort (off the coast of France I presume). Whence the name of the show - Fort Boyard.

"It has been remade across the globe, most successfully in the United Kingdom,"

- Which is where I got it from, just popped into my head.

I knew it was a French pronunciation, didn't ever know the thing originated there.

Unbeaten achievement isn't half as great as being champions, I agree... But, it does come across as such an achievement with the rarity of the event, doesn't it?

Which was presented by Melinda Messenger, running around in tight, low cut tops.

I can't believe you forgot this.

How common is a 95pt season?

Personally I'd rather United break that mark than match Arsenal's unbeaten season.

But whatever floats your boat...

"We went the whole season without losing to Anyone"

or

"We scored the highest points tally this season"

First one for me, but i never was a sucker for stats.

"We accumulated more points than any team ever managed in one season..."

or

"We matched what Arsenal did a few years ago and some other team in many many years ago..."

It's all about the phrasing of it...

Okay..

"We accumulated more points than any team ever managed in one season..."

"We didn't lose one match this year"

Its like a boxer, would he rather accumulate the most points ever in his career and lose one match, or stay undefeated?

Well, if you put it that way... :p

Anyway, as I said, whatever floats your boat, there is no right answer about this. Personally I think losing matches is so common in football it's not like boxing where one could realistically go through a whole career unbeaten.

Breaking the 95 pt. barrier is most definitely a better achievement than going unbeaten throughout the season.

The first and foremost goal in any league is about getting more points than the others and if you can get anywhere close to maximum, that's about as close you get to achieving the ultimate objective of getting maximum number of points, I feel.

As rightly pointed out, but, perhaps a little more exaggeratedly, one could finish the season unbeaten and yet get relegated if the 40 pt. mark be used as a standard for survival...
