Facts about football that shouldn't be true - but are

If the current Man United manager wins his next game in charge, he will be the fastest manager to 50 wins in the clubs history.

Anthony Martial has scored just ONE PL goal this season. ONE MORE that Ramus Hoiljand.

I've just seen this on social media today. Apparently Marcus Rashford has failed to score in 100 of his last 140 games.

Since 2020 Rashford has scored 4 goals away from home when he's started. 2 at the Emirates, 1 at Tottenham and 1 at Leeds.

Testimonial next year so?

I don't know what you're saying there to be honest.

I didn't think it had been that long more like 6 or 7. Players who have been at clubs as long as he has are usually much loved, huge fan favourites approaching legendary status. He's nowhere near that, never even properly established himself and hasn't deserved to be here as long as he has. It shouldn't be true.

He was being sarcastic

This is Anthony Martial's 9th season as a United player.

I thought he might have been but I couldn't even comprehend what he was saying.

Correct, I was being sarcastic. I don't even know if testimonials are a thing anymore considering what footballers earn, but the thought of Martial getting one is farcical!

I think it's an Irish thing to put 'so' at the end of sentences where others might use 'then'. That would make: 'Testimonial next year then?'

But of course now @Oscar Bonavena will tell us to have never even been to Ireland.

That is insane crazy.
Eheh, it's more like a perfect example of how the way numerical data are presented can sway our judgement.

"In the last three years and a half Rashford has scored in one out of 3.5 games played for Utd" sounds much different and it's exactly the same data point.

A goal every 3.5 games looks just as terrible for someone whose biggest attribute is to be scoring and creating goals

Probably but he'll have been in an 'Irish Pub'

Of course, a top club like Utd should have someone that scores way more in his position.

But I mantain that "scores every 3.5 games" doesn't sound as insanely crazy as "didn't score in 100 of the last 140 games".

It’s not the most shocking stat by any means but I saw on Reddit that it’s Januzaj’s birthday today (29! How time flies…) so went onto his Wikipedia and was surprised to see he only scored 5 goals for us, 4 of them in that first season.

It felt like for the level of hype at the time he would have easily been on double or even triple that.

The hype was because we lost every week and he was the shining light. The reality was he had a fair few average games where his lack of pace was evident but we all overlooked it

Newcastle and West Ham didn't play in the first season of the Premier League

That one never feels 'right'. All those ''it's a whole new ball game!" promos never once factored in the crests of West Ham and Newcastle? It's just weird.

Whatever teams people consider to comprise a pure/definitive/nostalgic Premier League to contain, those two would be named by everyone. So it's weird to think they were in relative obscurity when the glitz and quids of Sky Sports rolled into town.

One I'll repeat.

Between 1990 and 2013, there was only two occasions where United went into the final game of the season knowing we would definitely end the season without a major trophy (1998 and 2002)

On every other occasion, we either had a cup final to come, had already won something or were champions/still fighting for the title.

Crazy.
