Facts about football that shouldn't be true - but are

Hugo Sanchez scored 38 goals for Real Madrid in the 1989/90 season. All 38 goals were scored with a one-touch, first time finish.
Have you seen the video of them? About 5 of them were overhead kicks, absolutely mental goalscoring.

Uh? Maradona has 311 goals at club level alone...

Those numbers might be wrong mate
Yeah, they absolutely are. I've checked 3 and all of them are wrong

I should have added a note to say the goals were counted if they were scored in the top European leagues. So you lose a lot of numbers from Non European players and players who played in a lot of second-division teams/leagues (e.g. Drogba)

Maradona has 38 goals for Barca and 7 for Sevilla in La Liga. 115 in Serie A for Napoli for a total of 160 League goals. He has 34 Goals for Argentina's main squad, This gives you the total of 194.

Cristiano also scored more than all of them combined in the Saudi league if you want to cherry-pick your stats.

I still think it's mad that Nottingham Forrest have more European cups than top division League titles.

He hasn't but I see you are trying to make a point.....

It's not cherry-picking, it is trying to make it equal. Even if you include those omitted goals, Maradona for example would have a total of 345 (311+34) which is still less than Lukaku's career/Ronaldo post 30 goal tallies.

FYI, Im more of a Messi fan than Ronaldo and not trying to say Lukaku is better than Maradona. I'm simply amazed at how good Lukaku's goal record is.

Lukaku has played a lot compared to past players. At club level Maradona has more goals in fewer games for example, and this despite playing in a much lower scoring era, and a big chunk of career in what might have been the lowest scoring league ever

Lukaku is a great scorer though, yeah. His big game bottle job artistry is why few people actually consider him great. If he wasn't so hilariously and obviously terrible in the most important games he'd have been better than quite a few of the guys mentioned in that post

Rayo Vallecano being so much better away than home:
19. at the home table, while being number 6 at the away table atm.

Edin Dzeko scored more Champions League goals in 25 matches for Roma than R9 did in all of his 40 games.

Chelsea once had a 152kg goalkeeper.

If Mikkel Arteta, Steve Bruce, and Paolo di Canio were in a 4-way Skype call with Francis Jeffers, he could tell them how it feels to play for a national team. He could also tell them how it feels to score for a national team.

Who

Two of the starting CBs in this year's CL-knockout stage could theoretically be grandfather and grandson.

Only once have the 3 newly promoted teams been relegated from the PL. Where as all 3 side have avoided the drop in 4 seasons.

97/98 - Burnley, Palace & Bolton.

Looks like this year it's finally going to happen again.

Barnsley not Burnley

“You had to go poncing off to Barnsley “

The most goals a Mourinho side has conceded was with Roma in a 6-1 loss vs Bodø-Glimt
Mkhitaryan and El Shaarawy were both playing and I think that's the only time they have experienced conceding 6 as well.

Mourinho lost more times against Frank Lampard (3) than Arsene Wenger (2).

He's also lost over double as many games against Chelsea (7) than he has against Arsenal (3).

And I'm being generous here by counting the community shield.

Came across this incredible fact on Twitter -

With Maurizio Sarri resigning at Lazio, now each of the last 10 Chelsea managers pre-Pochettino - dating back to when Ancelotti left in 2011, will be out of work this summer.

1. Andre Villas Boas - Sacked by Marseille in 2021, not worked since.
2. Roberto Di Matteo - Not managed anyone since Aston Villa in 2016.
3. Rafa Benitez - Sacked by Celta Vigo this past week.
4. Jose Mourinho - Sacked by Roma in January.
5. Guus Hiddink - He's basically retired I think but Google tells me he worked as Australia's assistant manager until September 2022 but has not worked since.
6. Antonio Conte - Not worked since he left Tottenham last season.
7. Maurizio Sarri - As mentioned, just resigned at Lazio.
8. Frank Lampard - Got sacked by Everton last season. Disastrous interim stint at Chelsea after that. Not worked since.
9. Thomas Tuchel - Currently managing Bayern but they've already announced he's leaving at the end of the season.
10. Graham Potter - Not worked since the Chelsea sacking.

The 3 immediately before (well kinda, Guus Hiddink was manager before Carlo) these are all working. Ancelotti looks set to lead Real to a La Liga this season and may yet win the Champions League. Avram Grant is the current manager of Zambia and Luiz Felipe Scolari is managing Athletico Mineiro.

The bell tolls for poor Mauricio, methinks ;)

That's incredible

Hans-Jörg Butt, a goalkeeper, scored three Champions League goals in his career. For three different clubs (Hamburg, Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich). All three were scored against Juventus.

Antony has only scored with his right foot this season.

30% of Antony's goals for united have come with his right foot.

Antony has scored for United against Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool and Barcelona.

Antony.

In the last 10 fixtures between United and Liverpool at Old Trafford, Liverpool have scored 21 goals.

In the last 10 fixtures between them at Anfield, United have scored 2.

When Everton got top 4 in 2005, they did so having a negative goal difference and scoring the same amount of goals as Southampton who finished bottom.

Get out of here, that can't be true!

If Haaland does not score in his next 50 CL games, he will still have a better CL-goal-to-game ratio than Suarez, Van Persie, Rooney, Zlatan, and Samuel Eto'o

If he did a step over in each of those scoreless 50 UCL games he'd be rated even more in the eyes of some people and bot
