Fabregas

they want more money.

That could be the case. Cesc has said he met the president for face to face talks, so the president must have asked Cesc to meet him and discussed the bid with him.

No they don't. They want to keep Fabregas and Fabregas wants to stay there.

There's no double meaning behind any of this stuff. Fabregas put an end to it today, which is a relief, but still disappointing.

Why are some shocked that we have released a statement ,since SAF retired we have signed up to Twatter and today Google + Hangout ,Renren and Instagram .We've opened up the club to social media so expect a more open United.

Better than coming out with stuff like "sorry lads, we've wasted the whole summer on this, you all knew, in your hearts, that it was going to be Fellani & Baines from the start, but we thought we'd wait until the last minute instead of getting the business done early, integrating them into the squad, then wasting the rest of the summer on this. Our bad, we'll get it right next time. :) "

I'd like to think an official press release from the club would use commas and periods properly.

You lot will try find a way around anything

"Man Utd are a bunch of cnuts and I would never go there because of my loyalty to Arsenal and the fact that I play at my dream club, they can feck right off."
"Aha, I see he's playing the old 'I don't want you yet I really do' game, this is so on."

Cesc had to be leading us on at some point.

Like a fit girl at a club grinding all over you, but you don't stand a chance as she's happy with her roider boyfriend in the next room.

I'm guilty of that kind of thing:

"Look - Cesc has kissed the Barca badge & wiped his bum with a green and gold scarf!"
"He's showing contempt for the Glazers! He's one of us!"

Dammit Steve that's way better than my one, why do you always have to show me up in public you DICK!

It was expected scenario from the start, yet some people here really thought (and some still think) we were getting him.

Now that we know that there were never talks held with fabergas, there can be only one explanation - the fecking glazers don't want to come up with the fecking cash - they knew barcelona would never accept a bid of 25million and this was just a farce to keep the supporters happy.
We have lost out to so many midfielders over the recent years just because of a few million - if we really wanted Tiago we could have easily tempted his father by adding in a few extra million for them besides the release clause. We have never really used the ronaldo money. Ferguson has always been diplomatic in supporting the Glazers and covering up for them by saying oh this player is not worth the money etc, etc.. The truth is he had a guide line and was not allowed to go overboard for a player. The market has changed quality players have become expensive but at the same time we revenue for the clubs have increased, why then haven't the glazers come up with the money to compete with the other clubs - We are after all the biggest club in the world? Seriously? We can't get a quality midfielder??

spyder stahp pls

e may have been led on by Cesc and his agent and the timing wasn't great but I'm delighted Moyes has actively targeted a player like Fabregas

I'd like to see us sign Fellaini and a creative partner for Carrick

We should be targeting players from 2nd tier teams European leagues like Benfica, Valencia, Seville etc... - Dortmund were able to pick up Gundogan for peanuts from Nuremberg or someone

The talent is out there

Actively targeted = Putting in a bid of less than they payed for a midfielder coming to his prime?

Don't see why people think we've been led on. What exactly has Cesc achieved by leading us on?. He still won't be a guaranteed starter, particularly in big games, and he hasn't been offered a new contract. Makes no sense for him to come out now, declaring that he loves it there and never wanted to leave, if that was the case.

Fully admit that I was one of the idiots that had faith all this time that the new management had adequate encouragement/assurance to put in bids for him. Was good to dream for a while.

If it was the case, which I doubt anyway, then it would be to show Barca that if they don't make sure to play him enough then there are interested clubs out there. It's a fairly null point anyway though because I don't think he was leading us on.

You are not alone. Purely because the 1st bid was made so public I felt it was due to a deal being very close.

If at all, It's the fecking Glazers who have been leading the fans on... with a bid we all know Barcelona would turn down - If we were serious why didn't we put a serious bid in the first place..

we know why they made it public in the first place..
Not really. As I said at the time I thought it was because the deal was imminent. Now it looks like it was an out of character transfer/negotiation tactic.

But of course some believe it was simply to make it look like the club was making an effort to appease the fans.

Get a grip man

Spider - 974 posts in 10 years?

Is this a mod second account, where they are posting such extreme nonsense to make us all take a look at ourselves and realise how stupid we are acting?

We'll I for one am with Spider! Lets go mental and believe the worst!

Our initial bid was said to be 25, our second 30 - I dont think money killed the deal, it was the player and had it taken 35+ I think we may well have paid it

I'm just pleased we are in for players of Cesc's ability - its something Fergie should have clearly done in his last few years

Do you think had we offered 35/40 from the start it would have made a blind bit of difference to Fabregas?

OH please feck off with this Glazer shit.
I am not a massive fan of them but also I dont hate them.
How can us putting a bid in and it getting rejected be their fault.

25mil?? that is a serious bid - its a fecking joke.! if the Glazers were serious they would have gone in with a third bid of 40mil. MUFC immediately came out after Cesc conference, oh.. we understand his position and blah, blah, blah... To the United fans ' oh look we tried but he doesn't want to come.. yeah right.. tried my fecking arse.. if we have the money - lets go get Ronaldo, why not put in a serious bid and test their resolve..?

Do you not think that putting in a bid of 25mil for Cesc Fabregas in a market where Bale is 'worth' 100mil, Suarez 50 mil and Fernandinho 30 mil is just a bit either stupid, insulting, ridiculous?

Spider may be a little over the top, but the fact is that if we were willing to spend a little over half the world record transfer fee, we'd have a world class midfielder by now. Yet again though we've failed to come up with the cash. Which is odd given our financial stature.

You don't go in with you top bid straight away, you test the water first, I dont see a problem with that, the player did not give any indication that he was against a move until today.
You just have a thing against the Glaziers.
I see this has being a case dammed if you dont and dammed if you do.
If Fabregas had been sold to who ever, quite a few on here would of been saying , why did we not put a bid in we could of paid that with ease and because we did put a bid in, and it was rejected twice some fans are still slatting the club for even making the bid.
I dont see a problem in how we have behaved in this, we tried, we did not get him , end of story, move on to the next target.

It was expected scenario from the start, yet some people here really thought (and some still think) we were getting him.

There was no overwhelming reason why we couldn't get him. He's hardly indispensable at Barca, they might have needed the money, and the last two years were probably a disappointment.

My problem was with the very protracted 'negotiation', driven by unrealistically low bids, and the overly optimistic mood music, which made it seem at one point that we were about to sign him, when it now looks like we were never at the races. The most puzzling United transfer, or attempted transfer, I've ever followed.

I still hope we make a serious bid, £40m+, and see what they say.

I dont think we would of got him, Barca would not of accepted unless it was the silly money being touted for Bale.

He doesn't seem to want to leave himself. It's his boyhood club and as Xavi gets older and declines, more and more responsibility will be placed on Fabregas. It's going to be very difficult to tempt him away from Barca at all, and they know that even though he's perhaps not their most important player right now that he's going to be crucial as the years progress.

I do find our low bids strange though. Really not sure why we didn't try for £40m + but I doubt the Glazers refused the cash considering Moyes talked about not having to operate with a budge. Even if that was an exaggeration, you don't go from having a massive budget to a relatively tight one within a couple of weeks, unless there's something else the fans don't know.

it was overly cautious from us for sure, I wouldnt call it insulting - Its 25 million pounds after all - I think 30 would have been a good, more realistic opening bid

Look at what Chelsea offered us for Rooney for example

I never felt the transfer was a viable one after Thiago leaving - the timing was wrong - had we offered 30 in early June Barca may have been willing to deal with a mind on keeping Thiago - who knows

my point is that I think it is a real positive that Moyes is even attempting to sign players like this where Fergie didn't

I think we need to target players from teams excluding the elite clubs - the chances of getting a player from Madrid/Barca/Munich/Dortmund atm/Juve/PSG are slim

If 40m would've been enough, Barca would've told us and we would've paid it.

I doubt it. Clubs rarely name their price because as soon as they do the player won't go for anymore than that. If they don't name a price, then it's an effective way to get more than you expect for a player.
