Fabregas

i noticed that post, i didn't think you were referring to me.....because I'd love to have Fabregas here.

Then you need to work on your communication skills, because the last three or four pages are filled with posts from you sounding absolutely elated that you'd been proved right.

You come across as a twat, a condescending self righteous twat to be precise.

Even then not nearly enough.

Our record transfer is 30.5 million. In today's market that gets you a young up and coming player. Not a seasoned world class talent.

Yep, as I said, my only issue with the transfer were the bids itself. We didnt really test barca's resolve and given our bids, am sure we had encouragement from fabregas's team. We should have atleast bid whats required to get top players in and see how it goes from there.

He was putting in performances of a higher standard for Arsenal 2 years ago and was obviously younger too.

30m isn't innapropiate at all.

It really is given that Barcelona didn't want to sell and he didn't want to leave. If we were going to try to test their resolve we needed to make a bid that counted, not one where they stood to make very little after they split the measly profit with Arsenal. What would tempt them about £1.5m profit? We needed him, they didn't need to sell him.

But it is. I don't think he ever wanted to leave or we ever had a chance but bidding 30m was really strange. Barca fleeced Arsenal two years ago, no doubt, because the player himself was absolutely desperate to leave. He isn't this time and they didn't need to sell so it was never realistic to assume that Barca would sell him on the cheap.

I must say I do assign some of the blame to whoever was handling the bid on this. We should have bid £35m starting and worked our way to circa £45m. Even from Cesc's quotes, it seems as if there was something to it. The whole 'everyone told me I was valued' etc. talk shows that he did have doubts that had to be settled and him being 'honoured' that we bid for him says a lot. So I honestly think if we offered serious money then Barca would have told Cesc cheers you can go. Yes, 45m/50m is alot but it's about how much we value the player and his potential contribution to our team. And I think considering our dire CM situation he'd be worth 50m to United.

Agree. The people behind the bid need to seriously learn something about the sport and where it's going.

Exactly what I think too. It was unlikely that Barca were gonna Fabregas after Thiago, it would only have taken a big transfer fee to get them interested. What the club bid was too low and weird tbh if we take into account the current crazy market.

That's what got me pissed off about this. We just never put in a bid that showed just how much we wanted the player. It's a bit disappointing to be honest.

Definitely agree, and now if we do decide to go for another quality midfielder like Modric, they will of course know they are second, perhaps third choice, which isn't great from our perspective if there is interest from other clubs.

Exactly. 30 million doesn't get you fabregas just like it doesn't get you Rooney.

My big issue isn't particularly with this transfer saga. Well, yeah, we're coming across slightly badly being so public about transfers noone seems to think we have much of a shot at and where there have been no real signs in our favor from anyone. Also the bids have been daft and pointless. But the problem for me more than this transfer saga itself is that were one week away from the season properly starting and after all these still unable to sign a top midfielder. And going by most reports the midfielder we've all been waiting for all these years is fellaini! And when we do go for the top ones we bid insufficient amounts. The midfield needs improvement. Just spend big and go for real quality.

We should put in a bid of 38m for a laugh. And then follow it up with another for 40m.

well probably bid 20 million for him and publically state that were working on that deal.

If barca sold him for any less than £40mil we would all being thinking they were complete idiots.

He is easily worth £40mil.

Man city paid £30mil for a 28 year old who has never played in a top league. Real have put up around £31 for Illarramendi. Bayern paid around £32mil for Martinez last summer(looks a great buy now).

Fabregas is a proven player and has just turned 26. I think around £40-45mil is a fair price in today's market.

Agreed. Too late for a 3rd bid though.

Apparently we had "unlimited funds".

The market will only get worse too. As much as I hate to see it, if we want top players, we'l have to adapt.

I dont understand the hesitance to spend big on a CM myself. We're brilliantly stocked in other areas. 1 top CM and a backup for Carrick and that'd be it for the summer. With the amount of cash we must have, why the hesitance to spend on a glaring weakness? Regardless of how we fare in the league, we stand no chance in the CL with the midfield we have currently. Not with a lot of luck atleast.

We spent over 50 million last season. I don't know why, and I've said this for awhile, we have issues spending big one brilliant player but feel it's okay to spend the same amount on a few good or okay ones.

Maybe if Rooney really does want out, and Moyes has changed his stance, we could offer a swap for Fabregas. I'm sure they'd bark at the chance, right?
This is all spitballing though, I just wish the season would start, and that we start it with cover for Carrick.

 it's like a warzone in here. Guys, chill out, he's only a midfielder..

Nobody ever said we had unlimited funds so that's not really a quote, is it?

I can't remember the exact quote, "no budget", "can spend £80 million on a player if need be" or something along those lines. Yet we bid £30 million for one of the best midfielders in the world

People need to calm down. Look at how much Uniteds record bid is. United are known to look for 'value in the market'. It's unlikely we will offer £40m+. With the way the transfer market is these days (Moura, Hazard, Fernandinho, Illaramendi etc), a player like Fabregas will cost a LOT more than £30m+. We won't offer that much. Story ends there. Everyone here needs to relax

Where the feck does this rumour come from? We paid £30 million for a teenage scouser and a centre half. We've never been afraid to break records in the past, it's just we can't afford to any more.

SAF had no problem breaking British transfer records over and over again for players in the past. We're supposed to be one of the biggest clubs in the world and we need to cut out the value shit and adapt to the current market, especially when bidding for Fabregas. £30m was always a ludicrous amount to offer for him.

We'l need to adapt though if we want the top players. Working on deals to try and get these players in is great but we've got to increase what we think is value in the current market.
