Fabregas

Have to say, apart from the rumour mill on his intentions, he's been in scintillating form this preseason. Without question, the best he's looked, IMHO, since his arrival

They already came out and said they don't need to sell any players in order to buy a defender. They wouldn't have made the bid on Luiz already otherwise.
Well, they would never say they need to sell before they buy, that would be business suicide. They are doing their usual business, give a ridiculously low offer which they know will be batted back. This will disrupt the player and turn his head. Eventually they get him for lower than other clubs would have.

In this case, IF they need to sell they will know it will take until the end of the window to push this transfer through. In the mean time they may expect to sell...dare i say Fabregas to fund it.

What i find interesting talking about their finances however, is that people are convinced Madrid would have no problem getting the cash c.85m for Bale because of the TV deals in spain, yet dont believe thats the case for Barca. Granted they have already splashed out on Neymar, but i'm not certain it was THAT much.

This deal is dead.

Have you ever seen a player come out at an official press conference and say he wants to leve.

If he did, he would not be attending. This is now the end

I dont think anyone expects him to come out and say he wants to leave. It will be more interesting what he doesnt say that might get us excited.

Im still holding onto some hope but to be fair I expect him to come out and commit himself to Barca :(

We should take a poll on what he will say. IMO it will be one of the following:

  1. 'I have no knowledge of bids, i'm only concentrating on Barcelona, looking forward to the new season' Any follow up questions hit back with 'i'm only concentrating on Barcelona'.
  2. 'I know of the bids, its very flattering to be associated with a team like Manchester United, but i'm a Barcelona Player. Who knows what will happen in the future, that's up to the club, but i'm a Barcelona player and just concentrating on my fitness for new season'. aka 'The Ronaldo'
  3. 'I don't know where these stories come from. I'm A Barcelona player and have no wish to play for Manchester United'.
  4. 'I'm not talking about my future today'.
I think number 1 is by far the most likely scenario and it will be positive for us. It's the classic 'lawyer' line.

If I'm every on trial for a serious crime that I did I want my jury selected from the pool of posters in this thread. If I'm innocent I want to make a peremptory challenge on the whole transfer forum.

Or go with a classic:

6. "When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea"

I just put ssn on and it said "sources say man utd still considering third bid for Fabregas". So yeah, all that talk about us putting in a third bid last night were obviously not true.

After the comments Barca have been making about this, the only reason they'd put him in front of the press is to hammer the last nail in the coffin.

Totally agree, by the way is it me or has the arrival of Neymar actually enhanced his play... they seem to be a lot more direct even if it is due to the fact they're playing lesser teams. Either way he's been playing in a more advanced midfield position and it is hard to see him displacing Iniesta even in this form.

Part of the expected impact of Neymar's arrival, for me, was pushing Pedro, Alexis, Tello, Cesc et al to be more efficient with their minutes. I think that's already proving to be the case. Plus, players have remarked at how Tata has re-emphasized the long absent high pressing of Guardiola to some success.

Cesc is spineless but he's not stupid, he must know it's either improve or move on

It was supposed to start 30 minutes ago scrumps.

Its hard to press year after year, and stay hungry for success... abit of failure is good for the long term and a new manager helps in that respect as Tito was a familiar face from the Pep years. 'Efficient with their minutes' - good point, Pedro and Alexis can directly compete now for that right wing berth and both will get plenty of minutes but be forced to play at a high level to stay in, and either can drop in for whenever Neymar is out injured or resting.

For me Cesc remains a key member of your squad, the problem is does a player of that age and quality want to be remembered as a great squad player at the worlds' leading team or be an icon at a slightly lesser club in terms of quality at the moment but an equal in terms of prestige. He'll win more medals by staying at Barcelona, but will he enjoy himself being one of many or the star of the show. He might be gambling on the fact that Xavi/Iniesta will get a serious injury this season and he features in the run in and in all the big games which is not all that impossible, such a tough call.

In all honesty, I wouldn't blame him for staying and seeing the season out... asking United if they're willing to wait one more year and then make a final decision next year.

The only reason we could get him would be if Barca really needed to sell which they don't

Next target please

I don't know what people are expecting from this presser.

It will either be him categorically ruling it out once and for all or him going some Im not thinking about it I have a contract to Barcelona type response.

He's hardly going to, at a Barcelona pre season presser, say yep I'm not that happy here tbh, I'm off.

It will be completely non-committal either way.

This whole saga is either one of two things, he's genuinely open to moving to utd if the two clubs can agree a fee, or after seeing likes of neymar come in on much higher wages then him, he wants a new deal.

Either way it does him no favours to be too committal either way
