Fabregas to Barcelona!

Barcelona were taking the piss with the £27 million bid last week.

No doubt
But they hold all the cards really in the sense that they know that Fabregas wants to go to one team and one team only, that means they really won't budge all that much as they'll be relying on Fabregas to engineer a move.

I'd be surprised if they went above £35m, and you've got to think someone like City will make a bid

Same old Arsenal really, one step forward, two or three back. If they sell Fabregas/Clichy/Arshavin/Nasri then they're just losing the players developing experience and are back to the young barely tested kids again. As always.

There is absolutely no reason why Arsenal should accept anything less than £50 million for Fabregas.

Barcelona were taking the piss with the £27 million bid last week.
A bit like Chelsea taking the piss with a £22 million bid for Modric. Its a good ploy if it gets the player talking in public about a move though and starts to put pressure on his current club to sell cheaper than they would if he was completely settled.

It doesn't say it all. That's not the main reason you faded. The main problem is that you have one top defender, who was injured most of the season, one top striker, who's injured for half of every season, and clowns in goal (possibly now remedied). You always have classy midfields that can win the ball, hold it, pass round the opposition and create goals.

You are Wenger. You're looking at a man with no legs and no head, and saying, "What this guy needs is a heart bypass."

Totally agree with Plech - surely centre backs and strikers have to be the priorities above everything. The problems with Arsenal's defence was well documented last season but just as worrying must be up front. Is there not an African Cup of Nations in January as well? If they pick up Gervinho would they not risk losing him and Chamakh for several weeks, leaving only van Persie who cannot be relied upon to be available, Bendtner (who surely has got to go this summer) and the inexperienced Vela unless I'm forgetting some of their forward options?

Also Eboue would be away, causing further problems at the back, although Song's international career is a bit dicey so they would maybe keep him.

Arsenal already suffer due to losing key players to the African Cup of Nations so I would be surprised if the only striker they add to the squad is another African.

I hope he fecks off soon - having to read about it EVERY day is really annoying.

Well it's going to be hard to do that, but merely in terms of squad numbers, we need a replacement of sorts, regardless of how close they are in terms of quality compared to Cesc.
This is true.
Arsenal will have to spend like they haven't in recent times. And so far it's just the outgoing players that are the talk.

Arsenal will eventually sell, but only for big money. And honestly, thats only right if you look at other players who were bought recently.

As has Nasri apparently, not that that means anything

Nope.

Do lezzers ever look happy?

Oh yeah, I have a friend who is the cheeriest person you could ever meet.

If your theory were right, we'd have reasons to believe that Valencia is actually a homosexual woman.

Barcelona are actually fecking twats. These offers really are pathetic. I hope one of two things happen...

A) Arsenal refuse to sell.

or

B) They do sell, but take Barca to the cleaners with the price.

I don't see why the pound weakening makes any difference to Barca who're using the euro. If United deemed 30m euros as a fair fee for Anderson. Then Barca bidding 38m euros for Fabregas is an insult. The two players aren't even compareable.

I know, Anderson shits on Fabregas.

Of course exchange rate is important, it's inflation, 30m euro now is more expensive in general than the same fee then.

If Arsenal receives such a bid (38.5 million euros) they will sell. And to be honest, Fabregas didn't prove last year that he is worth more, add to that his eternal desire to join Barcelona, with Arsenal finishing fourth... I really can't see how Arsenal can resist this offer and keep him for another season.

EDIT: By the way, price comparisons never get you anywhere. Some players were hugely overpriced, like Benzema, Kaka, Carrol, ...etc.

But surely we deemed the 30m euro asking price as reasonable back then because we were required to pay £20m. If Porto had been asking for 30m euros at today's exchange rate then I'd imagine that we probably wouldn't have been prepared to pay the c. £27m that it would take to sign him.

The weak pound, which has fallen fairly significantly against the euro over the past two weeks, is playing right into the hands of Barca and other European clubs eyeing up Premier League players. All Barcelona have to do is satisfy Arsenal's demands, which will be in pound sterling.

The weak pound obviously also makes it more expensive for Premier League clubs to buy players from other European clubs. The only circumstance when a PL club would really benefit from a weak pound would be when it came to selling a player that they didn't wish to keep. In that case it makes it far easier to move the player out and far more likely to have your financial demands met.

Because it's Arsenal who are deciding whether or not to sell the player, and Arsenal who you seem to feel should be insulted by the Fabregas bid. We bought Anderson for about £20M. You feel that Arsenal should be insulted by a bid of nearly £35M.

In any case, a better and more recent comparison is Ozil, who Real got for about 40% of what Barca are reportedly bidding for Fabregas.

Ozil only had one year left on his contract though.

Do you not remember how Arsenal acquired Fabregas in the first place?

This is actually going to turn out to be one of the best pieces of transfer business that I've seen on Arsenal's part. It must be sickening having to spend all that money on a player that was taken from you, against your will, for basically nothing.

Fabregas's persistent hamstring troubles didn't allow him to play to his full capacity. Try doing anything at 70% and you'll see how much of a struggle it is... Still didn't stop him putting in the most through-balls for the season though. Anyway another pre-season and some proper treatment for the hamstrings will do him wonders.

Whether or not Arsene/the board decides to cash in or hold our for a player of his abilities true worth is another matter all together though.

It's relative though isn't it?

In face value selling someone that you got for nicked for > £30 is tremendous. But how much is Fabregas actually worth? He's in the top five midfielders in the world, and in that Barcelona side he'd essentially guarantee them success for the next however many years too. He's our Captain and best player too, which needs to be taken into consideration.

This deal is an Anelka-like piece of business - in that yes Arsenal made a killing money-wise, but no doubt we'd have wanted to keep him.

The fact they have to buy back one of there own is the only thing I like about this whole affair, and feck them for the years of relentlessly pursuing practically every single one of our players. I can't actually remember a player for us (who consistently plays in our XI) who hasn't been linked with them.

Emirates Cup 2011 - Tickets from £25 and £15 concessions! || Arsenal.com

The front page of the Arsenal site is advertising the Emirates Cup - with Van Persie, Henry (NY Red Bulls), Horau (PSG) and Riquelme (Boca) as the picture/figure things... Surely they're all the captains of their sides, so why is Van Persie on the page and not Fabregas?

Hrm.

Reading into it a bit much arent ya? Horau isn't captain for PSG, and I'm not sure of Boca's captain. Maybe Cesc wasn't available to be in the photoshoot, or maybe they actually wanted RVP to do it???
